Leicester lions 2023 (PREMIERSHIP)
mikebv replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
KL were not complying with "the rules" and got away with it for a time... And then they didnt. . -
Bartek nailing someone up the inside at the apex of the turn and running him up the track... Almost like these riders dont ever watch him ride.. Ride narrow and at least make him go outside you, giving you some sort of chance to dictate to him what happens.. Leave a gap inside and he will nail you...

You wouldn't... You really wouldn't....

The future of British Speedway after the 2023 season
mikebv replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
All correct... Yet. UK Speedway will spend a couple million pounds in rent and riders over the coming season.. With clubs all trying to out do each other... To win... What exactly? Their very own operating model prevents any real achievement being delivered... And 100's of thousands of pounds will be spent on just ten riders or so who will pay nothing like that back in admission money.. And 100's of thousands of pounds more on the rest of the riders who will bring in much less.. Maybe, collectively and generically they could pool some of that huge outlay to start to purchase land in areas that already have, (or have had successful) teams... Build it, (think Buxton, Somerset, Worky types), and then start to invest in further projects gradually as (hopefully), profits start to be made.. As is often proven, both live at "events", and via TV audience numbers, there is actually a sizeable following for the sport in the UK... Getting many of them to believe in the domestic product enough to attend regularly is the challenge.. -
Citeh fans will say that this is the reason that they didnt sell out their allocation...

The future of British Speedway after the 2023 season
mikebv replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Make it that meetings are actually worth winning... Make it a credible offering... Make it worth investing your emotional involvement in... Make it affordable for those thousands who go now and again to attend more regularly... Make it semi pro for the vast majority if it means a significant reduction in admission charges.. Make it cheaper for the riders to participate... Make it a "proper night out" at a well promoted stand alone "event".. Make it a joined up collective national marketing plan with decent budgetary investmemt pushing the sport generically.. Make it that you are not beholding to other leagues and run at the best time you feel can bring your largest crowds in... Make it something that major sponsors won't see as being regarded, by even its own most loyal fans, as 'a bit Mickey Mouse"... Make it up as you go along... (Oops, no, not the last one, I took that from the current masterplan).. -
Leicester v King's Lynn 27th April
mikebv replied to Bagpuss's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Leicester running with their own contracted seven riders? A ridiculous situation... There should be rules about this... The crowds these days expect to see loads of lads from neither of the clubs appearing that night... Won't end well all this, you mark my words. -

Does the handicap show Stars +30.. -
Then why not have a few clauses in the contract.. A cost for one year only (or what's left of it), and one ongoing if the Panthers continue until they reach a final settlement over "x" years .

Surely his TV work will impact him signing full time for anyone? Guesting means he can ride whenever he is available, for whoever wants him, and wont change the very favourable average he has that gets him the guest bookings in the first place..

Just reading the Speedway Star coverage of the Wolves issue and truly cannot believe what I have just read as comments publicly attributed to as being made by the Chairman of British Speedway, Rob Godfrey.. Referring to the decision to give Wolves Speedway a years notice by the owner of the stadium (Entain Group), he is quoted as saying.. "This stands out as a bizarre and ludicrous decision to end the tenancy of a well supported, successful, viable club which has a great history in Speedway dating back nearly 100 years".. He then goes on to mention "fighting tooth and nail", and "forming an Action Group" to try and prevent Wolves from joining the many others that have gone over the past decade in particular... Imagine being the CEO of Entain Group and seeing, publicly, the business decision you have made, (made presumably after going into the great detail and deliberation that these fundamental business decisions require) being described as "bizzare" and "ludicrous"? How engaged would you feel to enter into any further negotiations with the person uttering such comments about your decision making process, and therefore, by inference, your own individual competence? When you enter into negotiations with companies, you ensure you remain professional and cordial, and never, ever, be openly critical of their initial decision, particularly when you are coming from a position of weakness and they hold most of the cards needing to be played.. Best wishes to Wolves, but an approach to change their mind based on negatively questioning their decision wont end well believe me... Let's hope whoever is doing the negotiations is a professional in dealing with such issues..
