  1. Thanks, Bluey. However, are you sure it's not all just some sort of deep state conspiracy?
  2. One thing I am not clear about here. There seems to be a feeling that CL has received two offers but neither are as much as he wanted. Ok, fine, so he doesn't undersell. What then? Instead of making some money out of a sale, he makes nothing at all. Is that where we are at the moment, or am I missing something?
  3. Nor was Vic Huxley, Tom Farndon, Bluey Wilkinson, Vic Duggan, Jack Young, Ove Fundin, Barry Briggs, Ivan Mauger....it's just impossible to compare riders from different eras and although it gives us fans hours of endless fun speculating, it really is an impossible task to say who was the greatest rider ever. The greatest you've actually seen maybe, but not of all time.
  4. Hear hear. Always a highlight that brought in the crowds.
  5. Now that he's lost his commentating job, how about a comeback for Kelvin Tatum as Ipswich's new no.1?
  6. I have an appointment with my NHS dentist next Wednesday for a check up.
  7. I was going to ask if you'd looked at the Speedway Researcher page......but then I saw that it was you who had compiled it! 😁
  8. Grapefruit can be beneficial for gout. It's only if you take colchicine for your gout it should be avoided. Likewise, low fat lemon yogurt is beneficial for gout.
  9. Yarmouth were the first visitors, but it was in 1949, not the late 1950s. Halifax closed in 1951 and reopened in 1965.
  10. The last speedway meeting at Yarmouth was held on 8 August 1961, the King's of Oxford Trophy, and was won by Pete Jarman.
  11. Perhaps we could speak to the Epping Forest Visitor Centre and get them to reinstate High Beech for this new renaissance of speedway. At least the outline of the track is still there!
  12. All the more reason for him to take on the new underwater Peterborough track.
  13. No it's for a new swimming pool and sports centre. Of course, Phil Morris might consider it as a possible venue…
  14. Exactly that. One of the common themes on this Forum, not just this thread, is that promoters don't..er..promote the sport enough. They don't get enough publicity, they don't get sponsors, etc. Now, suddenly the one promoter who has been able to show what can be done in terms of publicity and gaining sponsorship is somehow the villain. I'm sure it must have been a very hard decision for Chris to walk away from the club that has been his life, the club that was his dad's life, the club they both loved. And, of course, as an Ipswich supporter myself I am very concerned about its future, but I cannot imaging for one second that this was an easy decision for Chris and that he is the reason why British speedway is failing. We need more promoters like Chris able to bring the supporters in and build good teams, not criticise him.
  15. There is a lot of talk about teams like Belle Vue and Ipswich (if they run) having to "drop down" next season, but, of course, if the Premier League as it currently exists is no longer, the new single league will, de facto, be the top league, so, actually, it is a matter of the other teams moving up! It's just that the standard won't be so good.
  16. What an opportunity for well-known speedway enthusiast, Harry Redknapp, to step in, buy Ipswich and save our sport.
  17. It's going to be very easy for the promoters when they do eventually meet in January. They only have to read this thread and all will become very clear to them exactly what the fans want...er...
  18. That is true, though just a slight codicil: Ove Fundin came back and rode in the British League in 1966 and 1967, winning the World Championship in 1967. And in 1966, 1st, 2nd and 4th in the World Championship were all riding in the British League.
  19. Ove Fundin rode for Norwich in 1964 and Bjorn Knutson for West Ham. Also Barry Briggs (World Champion in 1964) rode for Swindon.
  20. Hitchen's Razor: "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence."
  21. And if you can't get along for any reason can you ask Bomber to replace you?
