Do Speedway Promoters Ever Come On Here?
Tsunami replied to Little Thumper's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Whilst some do, i don't think as many do look at the BSF now. I knew a lot of their signons, but most don't use them now, and i would say possibly only about 4 actually contribute anything now. Whether the others look in you don't know but, from personal experience and attitudes, i would say not too many. Too many have been bitten by coming on here and posting, and getting savaged for it by the usuals. Tends to piss people off if all or most are negative back. Interesting that George English never looks at the BSF, but you may not know, a current BSF thread is dissected and printed on one full page(A4) every week, and produced by Lawrence Heppell who works in the box at both Newcastle and Berwick. If you can get your hands on a Diamonds matchday magazine it is usually worth a read. -

Mainly because the Football club owner has got the money to make more money, whilst speedway promoters don't but still try to keep the sport alive at their cost. But you knew that. -
Your assuming that the meetings were called off after all the riders were at the track. Lately that hasn't happened with existing rain and more rain expected. SNAP SS. I don't think they do out of competition testing. Testing would normally be when riders turn up at the track with the intention to race. With continental riders, and foreign bookings, how would you know for certain where they were ?

I am sure there used to be an elderly lady sitting in a camping seat making you sign in, when I used to be visiting with the Diamonds.

It could well have been the July meeting, as I would imagine the people we were with would have taken us in the school hols. Many thanks for your and cyclone's comments. In my wasted years between 6 and 19, I used to cycle down to Belmont in Durham on the Sundays to watch Jack and Ronnie Tait(Swales), Lampkin, Leadbitter, doing scrambling.

I think you will find that most of them have already stated nothing would tempt them back, and moxey actually repeats that he would not come back to attending even if they gave him a free pass, like he had before he got stopped coming in for free. With views like that why waste your Promoter skills on them. Look more to the future with youngsters who might think about coming into the sport. -
It has already been said that the testing would have already been carried out by now, but it wasn't because of the rainoffs. So no sweeping up by anyone.

I disagree HT. This forum has only a handful of people who can contribute decent input, but even those can vary enormously in their direction. What do you do if some are wanting speedway to expend, buy or build stadia, bring back the big boys, unlimited points limit, as opposed to those who think we should lessen the strength of the leagues, for the good of the sport, and build from the bottom and get more British riders by giving them more opportunities and preference. The opposites are incompatible, and there is no chance of the best of both extremes coming together with a workable solution. Don't forget the 'blow the budget critics' haven't got a penny invested in it, and probably have never ran a business, so why should you and others expect Promoters to carry out what they are told they should do. This forum is split with the sensible posters as to go one way or the other, so they all can't be right can they. Those with more foresight can suggest all the biggest and best developments possible at great cost, whilst the likes of moxey, oldace, Steve Roberts, TWK,etc, all non attendees who want us to drift back to what worked in the 80's, with black leathers, cinder tracks, Japs, straight through pipes, pushing the tapes, riders like Millen punching peoples lights out or fencing everyone(great characters eh). The world has moved on, and society has grown up with environmental issues and moderate behaviour tolerences thank goodness. The solution for survival is not obvious, and quite frankly there is no one solution at the moment that everyone would back for the benefit of the continuance of Speedway. An independent Supremo will not work and would not be able to turn any current proposal into a feasible lifeline IMO. -
Do you really go for all that bullrubbish. As Lance has said 'typical of Greg', and I agree. Typical of Greg wanting appear to be real deal and thinking of others, when his best plan should have been to travel to the next round at BV to encourage and advise said youngster and others to pass on his experience. Don't be fooled by the Grin.

But usually out of season. Allegedly.

More rubbish from someone not in a position to know. But thinks he does. As Fromafar has said, if there was something relevant and of value or concern, someone would bring it to their attention. Promoters are busy people, usually with work or a company to look after, and wouldn't waste their time on following, or reading, the conflicting views and bias that abounds on this forum. Does anybody really think that the views generally on here reflect the true views of the average supporters who DO attend the meetings. It's not as if everyone spouts the same things and with a consensus that is feasible. Instead people condemn everything, and either push for modernisation of the sport, or want to go back to where we have come from. If it was your business or money, would YOU want to put the effort into following such conflicting opinions. Forum critics don't normally make good promoters, as proved from some of the threads that are current on here. -
Sometime in 1949, with family friends and my older sister. I remember kicking loose shale and a rider in white, which presumable could have been Ken le Breton, but i don't know if he rode for 'us' or 'them'. Next visit was 1961 first meeting against Wolves, with Edinburgh reinforcements to make us look stronger. So I wasted my time from being 6 till 19 years old.

Not to sure about that. The situation happened first at Berwick when the referee Ronnie Allan had to be reminded that the replacement rider in heat 15 had to carry the punishment of the excluded rider. The Berwick promotion protested but were overruled. The wording of the rule was deemed to be a bit ambiguous, but the intention of its operation was known to George English who is on the MC. Shortly afterwards in another meeting, the ref wrongly allowed a reserve to be used instead of the excluded rider. In the Glasgow meeting. the substitute heat leader was allowed to replace the disqualified rider which meant Glasgow had not been penalised, and had gained advantage instead of punishment. The Supplementary was issued to stop it being ambiguous and outlined in more detail how the rule should be applied.
