  1. Im a newport fan and post on both,or have tried too I think its hard to generate interest on an official one when as you point out Lioness we already have an established unofficial one, that is friendly fun popular & doesnt take things too seriously. However an official one if used in the right way could be a very useful tool& can have a place & a purpose. Whether that happens is another question though.
  2. Thankyou EdwardIan & thankyou for taking the time to reply
  3. I think whats most important is that the young british lads whos careers start out in the league are given the most competitive, supportive, progressive environment that they can race in. For me the NL has made great progress irrespective of peoples viewpoints regarding, commonwealth riders/british passport holders/old hands(experienced riders) etc etc If you look at the likes of garrity, the worrals, perry, birks, morris et al that developed vastly last year. For me the quality of riders coming through has been the best its been for a number of years (due to the fact that for me it was the most entertaining & competitive its ever been.) Whats most important is that continues. Whatever the decisions next year, its what is in the best interests of those riders that is important not fans viewpoints regarding these issues. I will continue to support the NL whatever rules are put in place & take an interest in it even if the hornets do not run next year.
  4. Would be cracking Stranger things have happened
  5. Roynon could too now that would be a cracking signing
  6. Brilliant news that they even are considering it I hope it all works out & it gets the support it deserves
  7. Just my opinion but if its about building for the future and with the aim of getting back into the PL. Stoke need to sign the best riders they can that are available. Also as has been pointed out Stoke need to have a succesful season next year, and getting a rider like Compton as well as a couple of young Aussies would be a good way of not only being succesful but attracting supporters back. Taylor was great last year, and there are quite a few Aussies who are not far behind in terms of ability that have been mentioned by Vog & a few others that would be worth taking.
  8. Nice to see you joining in spinny Compton riding NL full stop would be fun Would be good to have him in the league
  9. TA & Koppe would be good signings, along with one of the baseby brothers, & evans that would be a good top 4 assuming that rules stay the same.
  10. Agree, although i can understand jims point regarding cov & pboro & the future of the sport But the NL has its own agm for a reason, it shouldnt just be getting put back (if it has been) because of the mess created by others.
  11. Jim the whipper i understand your points but do you honestly believe they are going to sort all the problems out with british speedway? I agree patience is needed but on the otherside it just shows how much of a joke the people who run this sport are. These so called professionals are the ones who allowed it to get into this mess in the first place through self interest, these are the vary same people who are going to sort it all out??? The point of agms is to discuss sort out resolve & implement rules changes, not to allow things to get into a mess. A professionally run sport would have tried to sort out the mess from the start, not after the threat of legal action its only come the organisations biggest priority since then, when it should have been dealt with in house & they would have all league rules sorted and planned out for the next few years. All loopholes within rules would be closed so that they couldnt be exploited or interpreted by people seeking to gain an advantage. All this plodding along discussing things is probably realisitically only going to be resolving whether cov & pboro will ride in the EL, or any other league, what averages certain riders come in on, & how they can all save face if a comprimise is reached. I would be highly surprised if every problem that exists within our sport is now being looked at & considered for the good of the sport & trying to create clear directions going forward, clear rules that cant be interpretated differently etc etc etc I highly suspect a number of problems that exist whatever the outcomes of these meetings are before the start of the 2011 season, will still exist by the end of 2011....and will still be left unresolved.
  12. Thankyou for your reply vog, & yes thats all true, just a shame that the thread hasn't had much activity on it for a month. Hope you had a nice Christmas and have a good new year. As for next year if we dont run at NL level, then i will be supporting the potters. Hopefully we will but if not then i will be looking out for the results of the potters. Cant see Mr Vasey having a problem in attracting some good youngsters to the club and he will build a team that it going to improve.Personally i hope they keep the rules the same as last year. As IMO this will give stoke the best chance of maximising entertainment & attracting fans, as well as challenging for the NL. Hopefully the stoke fans will give the NL a chance, it has become a much more competitive league, and from watching it for a number of years, IMO last year was its best ever year.
  13. Can't believe its gone so quiet. Glad stoke got some big meetings for there fans next year
  14. KL will be able to build a really strong team at NL level in 2011......should be another good year of NL racing for the Young Stars....given the options they have for out & out NL heat leaders as well as the vast improvement shown by a number of the younger riders last year.
  15. He could also deliver us fans a curry
  16. Go & show all the EL teams how its done Good luck to Birmingham in 2011
  17. I think like everybody else does, that stoke will build a great team next year. I think from a supporters perspective, its regarded to be a brilliant racetrack, Mr Vasey knows the NL inside out, & he will definitely build a promising team. Id imagine most NL riders would want to go their. Wouldn't be surprised if the phone does not stop ringing. Good luck in the NL next year, hope all you potters fans get behind them next year. For me having watched CL/NL speedway since speedway returned to Newport, IMO last season was the best & most competitive league we have ever had from a viewing perspective. The amount of improvement shown by a number of riders is the best in years & next year should be even better
  18. Just like to echo everyones comments, well done to buxton...best NL team this year deserve their success well done to everybody involved
  19. for a match that had nothing on it and looked like being an easy home win..this was a very entertaining meeting...luke priest was superb...so glad for him after last week
  20. Fri 29th Oct Hornets v Buxton NL Play-Off Final 1st Leg Sun 31st Oct Buxton away Final 2nd leg Also NLRC is at Rye House Sat 30th Oct
  21. BFD agree 100% with you..... promotion of the club is a neccesity and something that has been put in place over the past few months i.e. getting in for a tenner, the promotion of the club at local supermarkets with the riders who gave their free time to promote the club....& having a website again is going to be crucial. The promotion showed willingness to try new things and i think they have done a brilliant job so far for example...Ideas to look at if possible are making links with newports other sports clubs ie the dragons & county & the fans who attend their rugby & football matches, promotion amongst the students of newport. Kester you make some valid points......but Its all very well saying that wev built a promising team for the last two seasons but last years team didnt do anything and no matter how good you look on paper they didnt do a lot and they wernt very good to watch, given the potential This year we tried a totally different and far more riskier approach 4 newcomers(or 5 if you include Anders) and two riders coming back from major injuries And for the last two months have had a fantastic team performance wise, as well as IMO overall the most entertaining team we have ever had from a viewing perspective. We have a hardcore of loyal suppport who are true speedway fans, but we have been one of the best supported clubs in PL history for a number of years, sadly that support dwindled because of things like poor teams, no promotion, lack of investment and closure of the steelworks For me the simple reasons we no longer have the great support we used too are the costs...every track is faced with the major problems of cost for supporters. Im a student currently & i think ive probably missed about 6 meetings at home this year for both hornets & wasps and thats been generally £18 per week ive been spending which for me has been worth spending...its recaptured my interest in speedway since lastyear after losing interest when we closed down Anything is possible though with the right promotion ....only have to look at newport county's season last year to see the difference in a winning team, having attended matches when i can as a student (£8 to get in last year....havent been over yet this year as speedway have had a longer season so dont know the ticket prices this season )at the start of the season they were ave between 800-1000 which they have averaged for a number of seasons, but they got attendances of over 4000 for the match that secured the promotion, & the title presentation last year....and this season their home crowds have been over 2000 i think every home game (or thereabouts) Another sport but that is generally what fans in newport are like, a succesful side & fans will come back..... The potential for this too happen is their.....whether it will is another question, but we as fans and as a club need to have a positive outlook on the prospects, with the effort that has gone in from the riders, promotion & management team,in the past few months they have made a huge effort to try to push things in a different direction Hopefully this will go in the right direction and progress over the winter & into next season, & lead to us getting the fans back..
