  1. It's generally accepted now that many of those huge pre-war crowds were exaggerated. That West Ham example for instance is thought to have been closer to 40,000.
  2. Hush Puppy McCarthy & Stone Werthers Wulf Sport
  3. It has to be 1998, Poole 27 Ipswich 63, during Ipswich's all conquering season. Yes, they were very strong but Poole were awful that night.
  4. Bradford Odsal Brafield (Northampton Raceway)
  5. This is painful to read but I guess the former benefits from easy participation at all levels and the latter is all about betting. Speedway offers neither.
  6. Isn't it a condition that they can't sell more than a certain number of houses (200) until the new stadium is built?
  7. I'd be happy to live next door to speedway track and I'd guess plenty of other fans would be too.
  8. Really? I think cricket, especially test matches, is much better.
  9. Middlesbrough closed for good (1996?) but have since re-opened as Redcar of course.
  10. Odsal is too big for league speedway with today's crowds. Big meetings will be better served by the purpose-built Belle Vue so I can't see any viable use case for it.
  11. Do you not think if it was that easy someone wouldn't already be running it? Basically, the current owners have no intention of allowing it to be used by any tenant, preferring to see it fall into disrepair.
  12. Next month. Don't get too excited though - it's only a parade, no racing.
  13. What are the odds of the bulldozers 'accidentally' flattening it?
  14. Grasstrack is on its knees apart from a couple of meetings a year.
  15. Talk about an overreaction! Plenty of observational comments but nothing untoward here that I can see.
  16. No idea how many crashes were his fault but Wayne Briggs seemed to be in plaster for most of his career.
  17. On the few occasions I had a go, keeping things in at the other end was more of a concern!
  18. I keep seeing this in regard to Mike but he won everything of note that he could have. World champ in speedway & longtrack, WTC winner, British champ, BLRC winner when it actually meant something. A pretty tidy list by most standards.
  19. Rob Grant once scored a 12pt max as a No.8 for Berwick at Barrow in 1981. Unfortunately for him, Berwick's results that season were later expunged so it is not now officially recognized. Still some feat though.
  20. I guess you mean Tom Hark, probably The Piranhas version.
