  1. WOW!!!! That takes me back - I loved Jimmy Edwards. :approve:  http://whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/adults/whacko/whacko.htm
  2. You could be right about that - but I did read it. Sometimes you have to take things at face value or nobody would believe anyone on here. Edit: People shouldn't be Posting something like that unless they are certain.
  3. I haven't got access. So put me out of my misery please. To whom does he belong? Ooops!! You must have been typing as I was composing my Post BP. Thank you for that.
  4. Not in 1964 - but I went quite a few times from 1974 onwards.
  5. Not so!!! I read something to the same effect regarding the FIM and their Track size Regulations. I'm pleased to have it confirmed now that that the Article I read was incorrect. Cheers JL and PR.
  6. Hi BOBBATH Nothing to do with Newcastle from the Crowd point of view, nothing to do with the weather either. Both of those were the reasons given by Bridgett and Parker for closure. As I said - Crowd at penultimate Meeting was 8,000 according to the Sunderland 'Echo'. Now that doesn't seem too bad a Crowd to me. As for the weather - we never had a 'rain off' in 1964. Granted we did have a couple of wet Meetings but they went ahead. No - I am convinced, in my own mind, that Sunderland was closed in order that primarily Wolverhampton and also Newcastle could be strengthened at Sunderland's expense. As for the Seventies - we never had Crowds like in 1964 - but we were doing reasonably well under Allied Presentations - but - we were sold and eventually ended up with a couple of Promoters who were new to the Sport - and frankly not very good. In 1974 we never won a Home Meeting until half way through the Season. We lost most of the Crowd as well as the Meetings and we were sold on, yet again, to Liz Taylor the Berwick Promoter. She did her best, strengthened our Team and we started winning Meetings at Home - sadly the missing Crowds never came back and we closed at the end of the Season. I do not blame Liz Taylor one bit as she tried her hardest for us. The other Promotions though are a different matter. Sunderland has never, ever been given a fair deal. Had we stayed with Allied Promotions - I reckon we would have survived far longer than we did - it was that Sale that did for us ultimately. So as you can see from this - I am very jaundiced about Speedway Promoters. I am grateful to them in a way - they gave me a lifetime love of Speedway - however - they gave it to me twice and snatched it from me twice in, what I consider for different reasons, preventable circumstances. I hope you can see why I am so bitter.
  7. Let's just say that we are ALL mightily pleased that this is going ahead, look forward to watching the racing there - and leave it at that. Surely a cause for celebration - not for argument.
  8. That's nothing to crow about. OK the timing wasn't as good as was hoped - but the same can be said for many projects these days. The fact is - it IS happening and there are those on here who said that it wouldn't. Being graceful in defeat would be nice. Perhaps too much to hope for though.
  9. Graeme Smith - my favourite Rider in those days. He was a Sunderland 'Star'. :approve: Still comes up for our Reunions.
  10. Olly Beak (Allen). http://www.turnipnet.com/whirligig/tv/children/smalltime/smalltime.htm Scroll down - Olly Beak and Fred Barker.
  11. If I lived a Hundred and Fifty Miles closer I would love to go. As it is, it's not on I'm afraid. I believe it is a great day out though.
  12. Eeeeeerrrrrrm!!! I think that is what I said Twelve Months - with another Twelve Months suspended. He misses the 2015 Season and comes back to the Tapes at the start of the 2016 Season. As long as he behaves himself within the next Twelve Months he can ride - if he transgresses during that time the suspended Twelve Months will come in to effect and he will be Banned for another Twelve Months. This ensures that he knows, without any doubt, that he must behave himself. So - no - I am not advocating a Two Year Ban as you implied I said - I am trying to make the Sentence fit the Crime and ensure his good behaviour beyond the initial Ban period. I can't see anything wrong with that - can you?
  13. I am basing my Sentence on firstly Ward's punishment and secondly as an example to other Riders within the Sport that this sort of behaviour will NOT be tolerated. If you do offend in the way he has done then the consequences will be dire. You say I am too harsh. What would you have said if, God forbid, he had ridden and someone was seriously injured or worse. To me, anyway, putting my fellow Riders in danger due to my, admitted, actions deserves harsh punishment. We must wait and see.
  14. Not sure that most do actually................................................. Some do certainly - some can see the true meaning of my Post. This certainly seems to be keeping YOU happy.
  15. I've said it before and I'll say it again - A Two Year Ban from the start of the 2015 Season, one of which should be suspended subject to his future behaviour.
