  1. Was it ever thus? I am really sad about Danny King. Great Rider in my opinion.
  2. I'm sorry. I can't agree with you. Betting would ruin Speedway - that's my view.
  3. Very true. Bring back the upright engines. Safer, Cheaper and, most importantly - fast enough.
  4. Couldn't agree more on both points. Personally I think Betting on Speedway would be a disaster. For many years we have marketed ourselves as a family Sport. Bring in Betting, and you will ruin Speedway as we know it. Introduce Betting and the Sport will be tainted with corruption in no time. I want to see Speedway thrive - but not at the price of dirty money. At the moment, as singy13 says it is largely, I believe, an honest Sport - that would all go out of the window if Betting were allowed. Not for me at any price.
  5. (i) Red: Well, we have Redcar to thank that they (Poole) didn't. (ii) Blue: But do you not think that is part of Speedway's problem. It's a predictability thing. I don't think that one or two Clubs winning everything every year is good for Speedway. Speedway is a Sport, there must be competition. Becoming like what Rangers and Celtic used to be in Scottish Football can be very, very boring.
  6. I think I will give a shout out for Peter Craven. I never saw him ride live, but having watched videos etc. I reckon he had a terrific style.
  7. The Premier League has been in crisis for years. Teams dropping out for one reason or another and needing to be replaced by some poor unsuspecting sap from the next League down. They go up and shortly after are gone. They cannot afford to be competative in the top Division. I wonder how many Championship Teams have gone up, gone bust, and are lost to the Sport? Had they stopped in the Championship, they may still be running concerns.
  8. Nor should it be. I only mentioned it because of a ridiculous Post saying that Glasgow should be forced to go up to the Premier League. You cannot do that with independent businesses, which is essentially what each Club in Speedway is. The Premier League, sadly, has for a long time been the be all and end all of Speedway. This is wrong, the so called Top League needs to get it's own house in order, and not rely on being propped up by the Championship. That is how I feel anyway.
  9. You are certainly right about that. The Premier League is a misnomer. If all the 'Championship' riders decided to boycott the 'Premier' League' - there would be only one answer - there would be no 'Premier' League' it would not be a workable model and it has been like that for a heck of a long time now.
  10. HaHa!!! 🤣🤣 Nice one. I loved watching the Rider, not the Leathers. To this day I still think he was our best Rider in the 70's. I used his nickname as my handle on here as a sort of tribute to him - that's all there is to it. 🙂
  11. Never liked coloured Leathers. I thought Black Leathers looked great to me. With a proper Race Jacket - just Club Crest on the Front and Number on the back. Those definitely WERE the days.
  12. Ivan Mauger - no contest. Peter Craven was my hero, but I never saw him ride. I became a Speedway fan in 1964. Sadly Peter had passed away by then.
  13. I reckon that I was so lucky to watch and support Speedway during the 'sixties' and 'seventies'.. It was never perfect, but it was entertaining. The different competitions, Pairs, Four Team Tournaments, Internationals, Individual Meetings, (Proper) League Racing where the Team that won the League were actually allowed to win it (no 'Play Offs'). No Grand Prix either, just a proper Individual World Final that really meant something with loads of Qualifying Meetings. It was open to ALL riders, not just the selected few. There was even a chance for Second Division riders to win it. Compare that to what we have now. Plain League Racing, the odd Pairs Event, the very rare Individual Meeting and the odd GP. So little variation. No the wonder that people are voting with their feet. If I were able to attend, I am not sure that I would, Speedway has changed so much, and not for the better. Where are all the Characters these days?
