  1. When you look at the Trophy you will see Sam Hagon's name on it twice in the last 2 years, there will be no comments section engraved on the cup. It is a case of "how many" not "how", you could say he was lucky, but I have found the harder you work, the luckier you get ! It is not his fault the system is set up for a winner takes all final, but it was there for all 4 riders to take advantage of, you just have to accrue enough points to get to the final, then in the most important race you need to want it more, and make your own "luck"
  2. If you are going to have a deciding heat to determine a win, then one nominated rider from each side, one wins, one loses would suffice, the stupid 4-3-2-1 points fiasco where one side can win the meeting by finishing 2nd/3rd is a daft idea, even if you put 4 riders out on track, then the winning side should be the side whose rider wins the decider .
  3. I used to hear the argument with pre 65 trials bikes, people were spending £12,000 building trick Ariel HT5's which got the weight down to around 210Lbs for a 500cc bike which would normally weigh above 300Lbs, alloy rims, alloy replica Whitton Bantam hubs with plated brake surface, tubeless tyres, modern lightweight fork internals in Norton sliders, PVL ignition, 350cc flywheels, carbon fibre primary cases, sintered alloy barrel with chrome liner and Yamaha XT 350 piston, alloy guards/levers/bars, NEB clutch foam pad seat etc. etc. Then saddle it with a 14 stone rider !, sometimes the cheapest option would be to lose 3 stone off the rider ?
  4. We used to ride the rounds of the six nations pre 65 trial, In Gressenich, Germany, as long ago as 1992, they were checking helmets for conformity to EU/FIM regs /ACU spec not sufficient, this was for a closed circuit off road observation trial, all held on private ground with no road work, other than crossing a road from the paddock to the event ( where you had to dismount , kill engine and push across the single carriageway rural road.), needless to say we borrowed a helmet for scrutineering and just wore what we brought with us. We were still riding similar events in the UK with no helmet at all ! In Beauval France where there was roadwork we were able to take the riding number front plate down to "scrutineering" where they stuck a "scrutineering pass" sticker on it ! In the UK, March Hare, Cotswold Cups rounds there was no scrutineering at that time !
  5. More appointments than a hairdresser !
  6. Absolute common sense to anyone with an ounce of brain power, but it does require the kind of joined up thinking that those in power and planning seem all too short of. Clarke Osbourne has already put enough infrastructure into Abbey stadium in order to comply with the letter of the law and allow house building, although no Speedway has taken place. The new planning should insist the new circuit is completed and has one full season of league racing before any development of the Abbey Stadium commences. Although this might seem sensible, we are talking about councillors ?
  7. It won't be these ! Bike kit retailer fined over £10,000 for unsafe helmets
  8. If you are looking for ex Newport riders, then Kim Nilsson is the stand out
  9. It does not need to go round in circles , I would watch this ! Bing Videos
  10. Perhaps there has been no progress because Speedway has been going around in circles for years 😄
  11. I would put that with, the cheques in the post, we stand with WASPI women, etc etc, all of the hollow promises which help another agenda, personally I would love it to happen and if above NDL level would make effort to attend frequently, but the cynical side of me thinks "it ain't going to happen" and Abbey stadium will get built on before a single league meeting takes place at the new venue ?
  12. Of course there is no money in it, only £11 1/2 million in dividends for the shareholders paid in 2024 here is the April 2024 accounts, the next ones will be due in April 2025 application-pdf He has been a very busy boy Clarke Anthony OSBORNE personal appointments - Find and update company information - GOV.UK
  13. Totally agree, it will never happen, all smoke and mirrors, the "promised land myth" which will allow the destruction of Abbey stadium and the building of more houses, before the completion of Wroughton gets near, don't doubt they will start the process to give the council a glimpse, but it is unlikely ever to stage a race, there is more duplicity in this new stadium scenario than in Rachel Reeves's CV
  14. Swindon Speedway: Public react to plans for new stadium
  15. I would expect the carbs to be Amal type 27 Track carbs ? Amal Type 27 Dirt Track Carburettor – 500race.org (see link) rather than a GP or TT type Drive sprocket will vary on the spline/centre depending which type of countershaft you have I have a complete 1930's Rudge-Martin JAP bike with nothing missing if you fancy another ?
  16. The new site will be lauded as the next "great white hope" plans will be made looking forward to a positive outcome, meanwhile Abbey stadium will get demolished and housing built way before any infrastructure goes up at the new site, then there will be a reason the new site cannot be completed, take your pick bats, newts, wild flowers, natterjack toads. etc. etc. Maybe there just are not enough cynical people in councils and governments with the b***s to say build the new stadium completely and get it up and running before you destroy the old one , any verbal agreement from the developers is not worth the paper it is written on, and most of the agreements/guarantees written on paper are worthless as well
  17. The Swindon Robins have been unable to compete at their previous home, Abbey Stadium, since 2020 due to financial issues. ?????? what were the "financial issues" was it, the land was worth more with houses on it ?
  18. are either Ozempic or Wegovy on the banned substances list ?
  19. He had some natural talent, but unfortunately a poor attitude READING Racers reserve Jamie Westacott scored three points from two rides in Sunday's New Year Classic at his local track at Newport. The Welsh teenager started as the meeting reserve and ended up taking the final two rides for Josh Larsen after the American was forced to pull out of the meeting with bike problems. Westacott, whose future with Racers remains uncertain, passed Newport's Kristian Lund to earn a good third place in heat 10, and three heats later made a great start before finishing second to Neils-Kristen Iversen after holding off the more experienced Neil Collins and Robbie Kessler. The meeting was won by Coventry's Chris Harris, who beat Iversen, Stuart Robson and David Howe in the final.
  20. I knew the Mavericks team manager Pete Towersey well, and always sat with him at Wasps meetings, he had problems with Jamie Westacott's attitude to turning up regularly, inspite of others giving him as much support and help as possible, as witnessed below . Towersey is still waiting to hear from the rider although he has spoken to his upset father Fred. Towersey said: "Speedway is a team sport and this is just not acceptable - but until we hear from him we cannot make a judgement. I have tried to contact him but he is not answering his telephone." Westacott senior said: "I don't know what is going to happen but I have a feeling there could soon be speedway bikes and equipment for sale. I am very disappointed after all the work which has been done for him. "I would imagine that if he does get in touch with Newport then it may be too late. This could be the end. After this, I cannot see Tim Stone (promoter at Newport) wanting him back.
  21. last average for Carl 4.94 Newcastle 2018,not sure his leg trailing style would suit the Poole racing surface, but he was 100%tryer !
  22. Frank Smart, head under the inside bar Carl Wilkinson, last of the leg trailers
  23. Yes lots of fun, my mate ran a big block 71 Camaro in street class bracket racing with a breakout dial time of 9,9 sec, car was called Honest John, we all had big yanks in the 80's/90's, I used my Camaro 5.7L as a daily driver, it would do about 26 MPG on cruise at 70MPH on motorways, but was nearer 12/ 14MPG around town and showing off ! sounds Thirsty, but the Sunbeam Alpine IV that replaced it only did about 19 MPG until I chucked the single Stromberg and replaced it with a twin choke Webber off a Mk1 Cortina then if went up to a heady 26MPG, cars have come a long way on economy, whereas motorcycles have gone backwards, I replaced a Francis Barnett 197 with a Honda 175 around 1973 and the fuel consumption doubled!, then again the speed was much better as well.
