  1. Woke up this morning, stretched out my elbows, No Wooden sides ! another day to be grateful for .
  2. Reasons to be cheerful ? Summer, Buddy Holly, the working folly Good golly, Miss Molly and boats Hammersmith Palais, the Bolshoi Ballet Jump back in the alley and nanny goats 18 wheeler Scammels, dominica camels All other mammals plus equal votes Seeing Piccadilly, Fanny sniffin' Willie Being rather silly and porridge oats A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it Your welcome we can spare it, yellow socks Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty Going on forty no electric shocks The juice of a carrot, the smile of a parrot A little drop of claret, anything that rocks Elvis and Scotty, the days when I ain't spotty Sitting on a potty, curing smallpox
  3. Had a stall at this event, every year since Alan Wright started it at various venues, Ryton, Malvern, Telford etc., gave it a miss last year for the first time ever, and never really missed it, so once again this year will give it a swerve. If Alan Wright had not fallen out with Malvern Showground it would probably still be there ? Telford is a nightmare venue for the public, parking etc.and there is nowhere for the show to expand, Mortons/Kelsey must have called me about 5 times ,including last week, asking if I wanted a stall, so sounds like there are still spaces available ? I will be keeping my powder dry for Bristol Classic show
  4. Looks like Cordell Rogerson ? has he got UK parentage rights ?
  5. He carried on building wheels of all sorts, I had a friend, now deceased, in Rochester Kent and Malc Simmons built all of his classic bike wheels
  6. and locksmiths, car keys etc. possibly a transferable skill for some cons ?
  7. Could be worse,? Delboy ,Boycie and Trigger, although I think Craig Boyce is past his best now ? and Delboy would have to factor in his commitments to Paris, New York and Peckham
  8. A date would be required rather than a holy festival, good Friday this year will be April 3rd, at other years it can be as early as 20th March and as late as April 23rd, as it is chosen by an antiquated formula designed years ago by the church
  9. Could possibly get him interested in a junior league ?
  10. That would be Darren Pugh, but he must be in his 50's now, so surely must be due a reduction as it is some time since he rode for Camarthen Dragons
  11. Maybe a tour of defunct tracks Jason Doyle has raced for,, maybe tomorrow we will have a picture of him at the remains of Hayley Stadium ? followed by Rye House and Somerset
  12. I would have Frank Smart at the top of that list, his acrobatics on a bike were a wonder .
  13. I went to a few meetingsand world championship at Wembley ,British riders at Bellvue etc in the 70's and odd meets in the 80's, but it was only when I moved from Somerset to Herefordshire in the 90's that I started to attend every Newport Wasps ( and Mavericks) home meetings and the odd away meeting when they were riding. it was the Watson, Smart, era that really got me hooked, likewise it was the demise of the Wasps which got me to being an occasional speedway attendee once again, plus a few Grasstrack meets, now there is value for money, lots of races, fast programme and few breaks in between.
  14. Yes sadly Laurence and Gareth Rogers were brought up on Christchurch Road in Newport. Both attended St. Julian's School and are these days better known as Newport's general manager and Redcar's media officer respectively. Laurence takes charge of the Wasps because normal team manager Kevin Brown is unavailable, the same reason Gareth is on duty instead of Redcar's Brian Havlock. Laurence has held managerial positions with many clubs throughout his speedway career while Gareth has concentrated more on the promotional side of the sport.
  15. And now they bring in Harry Redknapp , not as like he has any experience of how to fight and win, when it looks a bit dodgy financially, maybe he brings this expertise to speedway ? Moments after the not guilty verdicts Redknapp stood on the court steps flanked by his son Jamie and slammed the investigation – saying that it “should never have been to court”. Jurors accepted Redknapp’s denials that he avoided tax on any payments over £189,000 found in a Monaco account. His acquittal alongside Milan Mandaric blew the final whistle on a five-year £8 million police investigation which failed to yield a single conviction. Mandaric and former Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie were also cleared of £600,000 tax dodge claims at a previous trial, it can be reported for the first time. During the trial Redknapp was at times moved to the verge of tears as the Crown alleged that he told a pack of lies in an attempt to get off the hook. What happened in Harry Redknapp's tax evasion trial and what did he say about the case? | The Sun
  16. With the BSPA being the major shareholder with 32,000 shares and the overall control of voting rights "acquired the rights" seems to be a loose statement ?
  17. Yes, I could have been more clear, thanks
  18. It is all on Companies house if you look 34 shareholders , 50,000 shares of which British Speedway Promoters LTD hold 32,000 shares SPEEDWAY FUTURES LTD more information - Find and update company information - GOV.UK
  19. Scott Smith did it at Newport as well, hit the back of the tractor raking the surface, came off and the bike continued it's ride around the track fully upright on the back of the rake !
  20. Looks promising ? old firm wound up due to not filing with companies house, new firm started should see that hurdle overcome, just got to hope that any rider that the previous admin held Visa rights for, can be transferred as quickly to the new company, looks like only one rider is subject to this problem, even if the Visa issue is not sorted, it is beginning to look like Worky can be back, with possible R/R or guest ( if allowed ?
  21. Tony Atkin, probably the last of the full time speedway riders to have a full time job throughout his career in both speedway and Grasstrack Tony Atkin - Speedway-stats.co.uk Tony Atkin Born Chester, Cheshire, 8th April 1966 Top Grass-track exponent who was British 350cc champion before having initial shale outings at Stoke in 1986. Returned to the speedway circuits in 1993 at Wolverhampton where he held down a reserve berth for much of the season, and played a similar role when moving to Bradford last term. Made his Owlerton debut on August 18, 1994 when finishing runner-up (12 points) to Peter Scully in the Young Guns Individual meeting. Joined Sheffield on the eve of the season. Off-track he runs an office cleaning business in his home town.
  22. Tim passed away and a bunch of muppets took over the running, sounds like a fair assumption to me, there was a consortium headed by Phil Morris who were keen to take over, the council wanted speedway to continue, but the promotion did everything in their power to make sure it did not, a mysterious fire did not help either ? Phil Morris , given his position in world speedway would probably thank them for that now !! You can state that there are interested parties willing to carry on with speedway at the Venue...... Morris remains interested in bringing speedway back to Queensway Meadows and has an unnamed “experienced promoter” backing him. But he can’t save his local team unless Sydney & London’s demolition bid is quashed and has called on speedway fans to fight the club’s corner. Details as follows:
  23. One thing we should be grateful for is, Northside is a magnificent track, and the stadium has wonderful potential for development through eventual installation of lighting and some spectator cover. Unlike the permanent loss of places such as Wolverhampton, Peterborough, etc, Northside will be there, and can hopefully push on and up again, after this unfortunate situation is resolved Newport ( Queensway meadows) was still there, had everything in place, lights, stands, safety fence, long lease, no curfews or restrictions, and look what happened there !
