Plymouth v Poole BSN, Sat 26/04/25
tyler42 replied to SteveLyric2's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Your Captain won the toss and chose 1-3 in heat one. Maybe he should have gone for choice of gate in heat 15 instead. It's a bit much to blame gate 1 for your loss. -
I don't agree. They are professional speedway rides as such they just like any other professional sportsman have to perform. He's lucky. Due to lack of riders now a days, these boys get a good run. Back in the day, you wouldn't have lasted five meetings with what he was scoring. There would have been at least two second half riders who would have replaced him. As someone else said on here. " Lambs to the slaughter" There shouldn't be a so called rising star in the top league. As for Sam, he's had a fair run if you include last season if you breakdown his scoring from last season. it's not good reading. Hopefully he get his confidence back riding at reserve for Berwick. He has the ability to have a good season at Berwick. I think getting dropped by Leicester will do him a favour in the long run.

Leicester v Ipswich 17th April
tyler42 replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Well in the two cup matches against Birmingham he scored 1+1 in each match, beating his fellow co worker at Hagon Shocks! Jason Edwards. In his three league matches. Against Belle Vue He scored 4, but after a third in heat two. His other two races there were only three finishers. Against Kings Lynn he had four rides scoring 3+3, but he was gifted every point he scored. Boughen pulled up in heat 2, he retired in heat 4, he fell in heat 8. As we know he failed to score tonight. It's been a tough start to the season for Sam. Not being nasty, but I think he is out of his depth in this league. He's not the only one. Hume, Killeen, Mulford. Possible Boughen. They have all struggled to score points. I did suggest Gilkes, but he didn't exactly set the world on fire yesterday at Oxford. In all reality the top league should not be having rising stars. Thompson, Brennan are the two successes. To a lesser extent Flint, but how long have him and Jenkins been rising stars? If your good enough that should be the only criteria needed. -
Oxford vs Poole - BSN Series - 16/4

Oxford are going to struggle in heat 13 and 15 against the better teams with no Scott Nicholls. I wouldn't class Heeps or Jenkins as heat leaders -

So Lawson moves at the start. mucks himself up but the ref pulls it back! Surely the ref should have let it go? -
King's Lynn vs Leicester 14/04/25 Premiership R1

I'm really surprised Dan Gilkes was overlooked at the start of the season. Surely Leicester or Kings Lynn will sign him sooner rather than later. I don't think it is Hagon or Boughen's fault that they are struggling. In the cold day of light neither should be anywhere near the top league. How can Hagon a 2nd division reserve be expected to score pts in the top league! When you look at the rising stars in general. The two Ipswich boys are head and shoulders above the rest. Maybe Kemp on his good days would be a match, but as last night proved. If he isn't in the mood he can really be woeful. -

I think he proved he was a good number two at Leicester last season, but it's asking a lot of him to be No 5 imo. Especially with the way the team has been built. Him and Klint should swap imo. -
Sheffield v Kings Lynn 10/4/25

Even though Bomber is at reserve. It's still a lot to ask for him to be the match winner at every meeting. Fair enough he broke down when winning heat 2 last night, but after that he scored 3+1 beating Mulford and Z Cook. Even winning heat 2 his score would have been 6+1. Even though a good score for a reserve. From a Kings Lynn perspective, not a match winning one. -
Yes I forgot about Tom, but other than Thompson, anyone else?
-
I have to admit, looking at the riders who are not RS's at the moment. There is not many riders from the lower league who would be any better than Sam Hagon. Young Luke Harrison and Nathan Abelitt are the only two who imo would be better, but the RS system has not worked. Only Dan Thompson has got out of the reserve berth and progressed. Flint is coming up for his 5th season as a RS. Edwards 4th season, Jenkins the same!!
-
Having watched him in the Phil Crump classic. He shouldn't be anywhere near the top league. He only managed 1 point and that was against a local guy who didn't scored a point!. The name has got him this far, but It won't last unless he starts scoring points. It was a very strange decision of Dickinson to keep him after last season. One good meeting at Belle Vue other than that, he only scored points when riders fell or broke down!!
-
Indeed Blodorn is only 20. Same age as Hagon and younger than Flint and Jenkins. Didn't have the luxury of being a reserve either. How many years has Flint been a RS!!

Vinnie Foord - is he too dangerous?
tyler42 replied to BackInTheDHSS's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I've read Briggo kept crashing and that Ronnie Green ask Ronnie Moore to take him under his wing and show him what was what. I seem to remember Donkey wasn’t too shy of a crash or two when he 1st started out. Briggo as we know went on to win multiple world titles and Donkey a Stella career. I think Vinny has a bright future. What he lacks in experience and track craft he makes up for it with his never say die attitude. Quite a few of those young riders and not so young should take a leaf out of Vinny's book. You won’t see him 1/4 of a lap behind like we saw some riders at Poole the other night !! -
The way he has rode the last half of the season, He has gone massively down hill. It all coincided with him moving up into the team at Poole and signing for Leicester. These last three big meetings for poole he has shown no appetite whatsoever. I really thought against Oxford last week he would get a hatful against the likes of Coles, Smith and Bourghen. He got lucky in heat 1 when miles behind, getting a point with Boughen's E/F Didn’t score or looked like scoring a point after. Even Smith beat him!!! As others have said his name has helped him get the chances he's had. Saying all that, depending what team Oxford put out Wednesday. He could score a hatful if it's Coles and Smith at reserve!! 👍

Ellis has shown promise on and off, but Howarth is what they called in the old days a journeyman. As for Coles, It just shows how poor the standards are now. Whereas the Polish equivalent is light years ahead of us. World Champion and some Ex GP riders!! -

You are quite correct. The riders you mentioned have not gone on to be GP standard, but I would suggest all three ride in the hardest league in the world. Bar Bewley and Lambert, no other British rider is competing at that level. Of course you could say, " put them on a uk track and they would be pants" but the facts are they all ride in the main body of the team and don't if they are struggling get to drop back down to reserve. If they don’t perform they are then shipped off to the lower leagues. Out of interest, the Polish U24 league has a list of the top 100 riders. Young Aussie Keynan Rew is top. You have to go down to 35 Rowe, 38 Flint and 55 Giilkes https://ekstraliga.pl/en/se/classification-list/u24e/2024 So the above British riders should surely be a lot higher up that list, due to riding in our top league? -

It's Different times I suppose. Throughout the 70s,80s and 90's we had young talent coming through by bucketloads, but that was because we had a great feeder program called grass track. Now we have kids starting out in the youth series under Neil Vatcher. They just progress through the ranks and ride against each and because of the lack of riders compared to yesteryear, they all get a team place in the NDL. They then progress into the CL and as we have witnessed this season, even in a very low standard CL they are not good enough. How many of the riders who made their debut over the last two season in the CL would you say have a bright future? Young Luke Harrison, Killeen, Dan Thompson Look the best contenders to me. Some of the others look so far out of their depth and wlll never make it. That is not their fault. It's the system.
