Panthers V Plymouth - Lc Sunday 12th April - 3pm
Star Lady replied to mudflaps's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As a neutral I thoroughly enjoyed that. Despite the dry dusty track there were 5-6 decent races. Heat 15 was a cracker with all 4 riders side by side out of bend four on first two laps. Very impressed with Newman and to a lesser extent Jack Holder. If anything slightly disappointed with Robert Lambert but I had such high expectations it probably e plains it. Good to catch up with Gemini again. Nice to see riders (from both teams) acknowledge the crowd, puts some EL teams to shame! -
I'm told Nicki tweeted earlier that he had a high fever. Didn't see it myself cos he blocked me lol

Pleased to read that there have been improvements to some things. It appears that constant track grading is not necessary as there was passing and no fallers. I have no problem with grading if the track is dangerous but allowing the dirt to spread outwards naturally always creates more lines IMO. Looks as if notice has been taken of comments about unnecessary delays between races happened too, whether by the ref or the promotion or both who knows but I'm sure fans with school age kids and folk who have early starts for work will appreciate a prompt finish. Small steps but in the right direction it seems -

Not saying that at all Trees. I simply want to be entertained by decent racing and not stand there waiting for another procession whilst listening to tractors!!! As it happens I did prefer PL and still do. I fail to see why it's so difficult to provide 2 hours entertainment. Rory managed it!!! I'm more than happy with the odd away meeting and a few trips to Peterborough & Mildenhall, where RACING is the norm not the exception. -

I'm one of those strange folk who would prefer to see an entertaining meeting and lose than win and watch a load of processions. I've always been the same - I reckon it's because I started watching Lynn in the 60s and we very rarely used to win but we did get entertainment. I hate to harp back to those days but we had a full meeting, a second half, junior races and if we were lucky a couple of Golden Helmet match races. We rarely saw a tractor, we rarely saw a bike taking off into space but we saw loads of charecters who whether for real or simply to entertain the fans would wag fists at opponents (occasionally land a punch) would chase other riders across the centre green and even charge up to the refs box. Nowadays the sport has been sanitised within an inch of it's life. Bet you can't remember much about last years racing in the a certain meeting, but sure as hell remember Woffy and his shovel - I rest my case . I still remember Alan Wilkinson vaulting the fence at Lynn and charging up to the refs box. The crowd went wild, he probably just said "Hi Mate, that's got them going" to the ref but we all enjoyed it. I can't honestly remember the last time a rider actually went out of his way to entertain the fans other than by riding his bike. -

Was seriously considering going to this one but having read about the BV performance last night at Wolves who let's face it are nowhere near as strong as Lynn, I'm not going to bother. I'll save myself for Peterboro on Sunday. I read with interest GBs post about NCFC and he mentioned something I had forgotten about - promotion and relegation keeping the season alive. With speedway at present it really doesn't matter how the team do from April to August just as long as they amass enough points to get to the play-offs so if you miss a couple of meetings it really doesn't matter. (I know Trees and GRW will say differently ) Even the play-offs don't have the cut and thrust of a relegation/promotion battle. We all know next year it will be the same teams and they can be as dire as they like in 2015 they will still be there in 2016. -
Taken from Lynn website Lynn obviously expecting a massive crowd. Hope tey have plenty of eggs and bacon for the cooked brekkies

As I understand it they can garden as long as they point the right way and remain in contact with their bike. Some riders only have ickle short legs so it's only fair. -

Having just been outside to try to stabilise our fence!!! And nearly been blown off my feet I'd question whether it's safe for 4 riders to be on track together. If this wind doesn't ease they will be blown all over the place not to mention any rubbish or debris being blown onto the track affecting their vision. Has a meeting ever been winded off? -
This thread isn't anti Poole it's anti Norbolds Hole. You lot just keep going round in circles trying to get to the bottom of it

Two from this household won't be going either (plus I never had any intention of doing so). If the cash flow situation won't allow a reduction on admission this early in the season (no idea if that's the case or not) an alternative would be discounted admission for a future meeting on production of tomorrows ticket. I agree with most of the above, fans seem to be taken for granted not just by Lynn but the majority of promotions these days. Rory set the benchmark and I know it's easier to arrange a single meeting than a whole season but just a few little tweaks that don't necessarily cost that much, speeded up meetings, decent presentation an acknowledgement of the fans by riders (not a limp half heated wave) all go a long way when put together. Trees, hubby said this morning he doesn't care if it's the fiftieth year or the seventeenth year and until the promotion get their act together promoting the fiftieth season I doubt anyone but die hards even realise Just seen the two posts above this and I'd agree live speedway along with the don't give a toss attitude of promoters is helping to kill the sport. A highlights programme would be an ideal solution IMHO. -

Depends which Steve you thought you were talking to. At one point you were talking to Steve Hone and then you quoted a post by SteveO. -

I was trying not to put people off lol. I'm afraid the lure of watching Cameron and Millipede is fractionally more entertaining than freezing within an inch of death whilst being subjected to shouty man ( not sure who coined that name but I find it very fitting) -

2 miles from track. Sunny, very windy and I suspect rather chilly tonight. -

Been persistently precipitating since 5 this morning but now more or less stopped. Think you might need your thermals tho
