No Laguta At Cardiff ?
Star Lady replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Entirely possible Henry I just got annoyed when the blame was put on the authorities with no proof whatsoever. I guess we will never know the truth, as with so many things to do with speedway -
British Grand Prix, 25/06/11
Star Lady replied to alan_boon's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Average sort of meeting IMO. A few decent races but this is supposedly a meeting with the top 16 riders in the world so why doesn't the racing reflect it? As for the pathetic Sky team...keep Louis and Loram (well impressed with him he was far more articulate than I remember ) and dump the rest...too many mistakes from most and language mangling from Ermolenko/Tatum. Don't bother telling me to turn the sound off cos I like the sound of the bikes -

Bavarian, provide the date that the Lagutas applied for the visas and I will see if I can smell anything. Until then I am just putting an alternative viewpoint -
No Laguta At Cardiff ?
Star Lady replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Why is everyone so sure Laguta was refused a visa? Taken from a report on the official Gp site "The Czestochowa and Valsarna man has been forced to miss out after failing to secure a UK visa in time to ride." That to me implies that the request for a visa was not put in at an early enough time to get a visa. I see no reason why exceptions should be made for sportsmen who cannot be professional enough to sort out their paperwork. -
No Laguta At Cardiff ?
Star Lady replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It's being discussed on the yahoo list. Stekkers has pointed out that half a dozen riders could not get visas to ride in the race off last year in Balakova, so it's not the first time visas have got in the way. It would be interesting to know why Laguta has not been granted a visa. -

The impression I got from the TV coverage was there were far fewer air horns this year, or have they just managed to find a way to blank them out? I've seen a lot of comments about poor PA, was that because of the noise of the airhorns or just a crap PA system? The noise was one of the reasons we stopped going. No objection to air horns in reasonable moderation but when they started to use them as entertainment, with the constant urging to "sound your air horn now" it became too much and spoilt the enjoyment. -

Star Lady replied to GregM's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I enjoyed that and I haven't said that about a speedway meeting for a couple of years or so. I agree it maybe wasn't quite as spectacular as Tatum and Pearson were making out, but given some of the dross they have had to try to make sound exciting over recent years, you can sort of understand them getting carried away. -
2010 World Cup Calendar
Star Lady replied to IW08's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Why exactly? Because you say so? Are you saying all major event should be held on rubbish tracks simply because they are EL tracks? That, if I may say so, is a very shallow argument and smacks of snobbishness and elitism (pardon the pun). Would you rather a track move up to EL, with all the extra costs that entails, go bust cos there is not a large enough fan base in it's catchment area and the sport lose an excellent venue? Sorry you haven't convinced me -

Name me one other British club that have improved their facilities to the same degree as King's Lynn. The Stars may well be a Premier League team but their stadium is one of the best, if not the best, in the UK. Of course if you think the FIM and the wider TV viewing public should think Belle Vue is the standard of British Speedway facilities, there's no discussing the matter with you. (No offence meant to BV as I realise they are shackled by their landlords) I'd suggest that King's Lynn can and will provide Team GB with as much practice time as they and Rob Lyon want. The track is used most days of the week for training schools, practice and testing (ask Jason Crump ). How many other Uk tracks have that freedom? I'll hibernate to the sidelines again now -

Such a shame the organisers didn't get trousers that didn't have the hems held up with pins (Miss Blue) or advertising peedway.com (Miss White aka Miss short legs). They did provide more entertainment in our house than the racing (?) as we tried to predict who Paulco would favour -

I thought the whole team today were excellent. I'm no fan of Nicholls (understatement time) but this was his first time of sitting in front of cameras for a long programme with not a lot going for considerable periods and he IMHO did a good job. Slightly disappointed with Charlie tho for not asking where Nicholls was Monday and Thursday but maybe that was a condition of him sitting there - who knows. Sack Pearson and keep this team together, no shouting, no screaming, just knowledge, information and the odd joke. Brilliant stuff under pressure of no action for hours on end -
Gaining lots of experience of the atmosphere of a SWC final

I thought she did an excellent job tonight, filling in for nearly an hour live without a script when she knew that we knew there wasn't a hope of the meeting going ahead. She even managed to stop Tatum mentioning Moley -
I assume you have nothing else planned for the morning then and for those who have made other arrangements for the morning/are working/go to church .

Swc - The Race Off
Star Lady replied to Sandie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm bloody proud of Team GB for their efforts tonight and on Monday. That's something I haven't been able to say for the last few years. Finally we actually have a TEAM, not a load of disinterested individuals. Well done to each and every one of them, riders, managers, advisors, mechanics and anyone else that helped in the slightest. OK we didn't qualify but only idiots would have expected us to at the start of July anyway. Harris showed he can be a great captain, Richardson really impressed me tonight (and he's a rider I really don't have a lot of time for normally) but he wore his heart on his sleeve, used his head and chivvied the others along. Woofy had a stormer and rode well above his level IMHO. King didn't disgrace himself at all in my eyes and surely will have learnt a lot. Felt sorry for Bridger, made one mistake and really didn't get the chance after that to make amends. Kennett too was there chipping in. The benefits will come next year but meanwhile we have a TEAM we can be proud of. -
Swc Race-off
Star Lady replied to Danish Webmaster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I understand perfectly well, I just choose to read newspapers online and doubt I'm alone. I don't read sports pages quite simply because I'm not that interested in sport except speedway and the occasional cricket match. I can get any info I need about speedway from various sources on net. Well done to whoever sent that particular press release out but I doubt an inch in a paper will persuade anyone to actually get off their butt and attend a meeting.....now if they were shown a video of Heat 20 that might -
Swc Race-off
Star Lady replied to Danish Webmaster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Maybe, maybe not. I don't read newspapers so how many column inches did actually reaching the race off get? Realistically I can't see speedway getting many inches at all. The Ashes start tomorrow, some football team has spent a fortune and the golf Open starts this weekend. Where will they fit speedway in -

How dare you ignore the Isle of Wight....don't you realise they actually have a speedway team that's only one less than Scotland and the same as Wales Why would anyone on the Island support Team GB when it doesn't include a single Wightman Cracking post Linus -

Star Lady replied to tomazpozrl's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Absolutely superb meeting. if only there were more like it. So many positives apart from the quality of the racing. Great team spirit from Team GB...not seen that for a few years. GB riders riding with passion......hells bells almost unheard of in recent years. Great to see the Team GB captain with the riders just before they go out....he could be saying rhubarb rhubard for all I know but good to see nonetheless. Great to see Richardson in the pits helping out, must add to the team spirit. Also good to hear he accepts the youngsters need the experience and seems to bear no grudges whatsoever. Not a fan of his but I will be this Thursday Great track prep, shale whatever next lol....I have this mental image of Buster in his tractor, Ole on the phone telling him to take the dirt off and Buster saying, on your bike mate (or words to that effect) Even Sam didn't annoy me tonight, could be because he didn't try to tell us what riders were thinking I'd like to thank orion and Frigbo for obviously winding Danny King up....can you do it again for Thursday please As for Thursday's team....I'll go with whoever Rob chooses, all I ask is they ride with the same passion that they did tonight, that will do for me. Once again well done to everyone involved with Team GB and to Peterborough for providing a brilliant set up for the riders to entertain us.
