Poole Pirates Vs Kings Lynn Stars 13/06/18
g13webb replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I totally agree, Its all very well coming out with the right lines and promises, but we all know they are not able to predict what happens in future meetings. If A Danish squad rider was to get hurt, a replacement will be named, so how can we be certain these promises will be honoured... They're not worth the paper they're written on. The only chance the Stars may have to be in contention for those PO places is to unload at least 2 of our Danish Riders and replace with available options. Anything must be better than we have at present. -

You aren't Kidding !! I looked in 5 Daily newspapers and didn't see one word about our British Championship. And when you see some of the rubbish you read in these publications you realise how poor our Promoters really are....... -

The decision to use Danish riders in any team, with the FRN of Wednesdays, is becoming laughable.... Now that MPT is down at reserve, his replacement is very important. Cover for Andersen shouldn't be a problem. The big issue here is team spirit and togetherness. How can the team ever prosper when we have to change riders each meeting. -
Congratulation to Robert on a wonderful victory last night becoming the new British Champion. so remmonissant of that night in Coventry back in 1978 when Michael Lee won that same coveted crown. Never thought that night could ever be over shadowed, but last night came really close. Robert was superb and demonstrated his ability by winning each and every race. From the gate, or from the back it made no difference. he really was majestic..... Well done that man........ BRITISH CHAMPION 2018 : Robert Lambert......

World Championship Pairs
g13webb replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This was suppose to be a Pairs tournament where team riding was to be rewarded. The 4320, scoring would have encouraged teams to ride as pairs, knowing 2nd and 3rd would be more beneficial, than just the winning of the races.. As it was with the 3210, all teams knew when you won the race you were rewarded the same as those who team rode behind you, so in affect it contradicted the purpose of the tournament. ( it was said you got a bonus point, but that only came in play if the scores were level at the end). It is not possible to recalculate the actual scores using the 4320 format, because it would have put a whole new emphasis on the riding behaviour of the riders, knowing the advantages gained through team riding was greater than just winning. As with so many things I just feel it wasn't thought through properly... NB. I have been fortunate to witness most of the great riders mentioned on here when compering them to Woffy. My personal favourite was Michael Lee, I loved Ove Fundin, adored Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs and Rickardsson were out of this world, but what Woffy done this last week was equal to any of those great riders.... Pure Class.... -
The chances are good that he will ride. The fact he raced yesterday is a good sign. The only problem could be if there was any repercussion from that shoulder operation, and he wont know that until after. If he pulls out of the Poole match through injury, didn't I read somewhere, he would then have to be absent for 7 days, ( meaning he misses the Rye House match on Monday... ) Cant wait to get back to a FULL TEAM so we can compete on equal terms........

World Championship Pairs
g13webb replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
There are some people on here who will never be pleased. All this talk of Woffy dropping back to help Lambert is so bias and contradicts the tremendous achievement they made. . Only Woffy can answer for the way he rode, and the choices he choose. but to me he was immense, and rode his heart out for the cause. The rules stank, the point scoring was rubbish, Blame them if you like , but for a team who outscored everyone else, a team that did the most team riding of the lot, the team that won the final have nothing to be questioned about. Both Woffy and Lambert were brilliant, to me they were the right full winners.. It was the organiser who got it wrong. Team riding was never rewarded during the meeting, yet in the final coming second was deemed the winner..... PS,,, Hope you haven't forgotten the 3 man semi final fiasco . -

I was always aware when Woffy is in our team we are in with a shout, but never did I imagine that Cook nor Lambert would get enough points to compete with the likes of Russia, Poland, and the rest of the elite in Europe, so you can imagine how chuffed I feel with the result of the SON. Woffy was immense, as a rider he towered above everybody else on show. Such was his ability he oozed class in every department. Over the years I have moaned at Roberts laid-back approach more than most, but this year we have at last seen the real potential. He has stepped up to the big time and on the biggest stage of them all he really came of age. His gating was phenomenal, He competed with the best and come away with so much credit. No we may not have won the SON but we came away with our heads held high, and the whole world will be aware now, we are not just there to make the numbers up. WELL DONE TO TEAM GB..... so proud of their effort... we were that close...... -

Looking back through the Speedway Stars , (Published on 23rd Nov 2017) when reporting on the AGM, it read: ' it appears Matt Ford was the instigator of having Wednesdays as a fixed race night, instead of Thursdays, and every team voted to comply. That's all except Swindon. They have been given permission to run half their meetings on Thursdays in 2018....' I am more likely to believe the S/S, than those fans who can see no wrong in anything connected with Poole Speedway... I thought Ford was more astute than that, seeing the bigger picture, but it appears he is no different than the rest. Buster once said after becoming Chairman, it was his intention to make the sport open and transparent. Seems we are still waiting for that to happen.... -

It was voiced on this forum, immediately after the announcement of the FRN, that a vote was taken and Matt Ford voted to go along with three 2nd division teams, to keep Thursday free for championship . When Ford was questioned about his vote, he replied he voted to enable Poole to operate on Wednesdays... Some say this forum is gospel ; I can understand Ford's logic, it was typical of the 'I'm alright right' philosophy... But why was something so big, in regards to other countries fixture clashes, that is was put to a vote with teams that has no bearing on Ist division racing is beyond me... Surely the BSPA should have detailed Mon and Thursday's as FRN , as was suggested by the FIM, and then asked the teams which league they wanted to join, not give 2nd div teams, the option of day and League they wish to race. They sure made a real pigs ear of everything, -

They sure are !! You even get moaners, moaning about other moaners just for the sake of it.... If you decided to forego a match and stay at home to watch the football , I'm sure the club would benefit by knowing the reasons why, so next time they will be able to make a more calculated decision when fixtures clash.... Give me constructive criticism any day. Negative opinions are far more beneficial than those always blowing sunshine up the Clubs A- - e . We fans, like nothing more then to be kept in the picture of what is going on. . The majority of problem arise because we are ignored. NB. Because of a Hospital visit yesterday, I noticed a large sign, advising Road Works on the ' Pullover Road' and the A17 / A47 Roundabout Junction. spread over a period of 6 wks from the 11th of June. There were no specific dates of actual work, but you can bet they will coincide with the speedway meetings. But at least we have been warned and can go the back roads levitating any holdups. So easy to make decisions when we know beforehand..... -

Unfortunately, when it was decided to run FRN, the number of available options are decreased. Add to that the amount all those days we lost at the start of the season and the percentage goes up all the time. When you consider the matches we have agree to ride without a full quota of riders, racing on the same night as an England match is of little importance. -
Two issues here Sidney, and I agree with you on both, Josh Auty has ridden for the Stars and done well. He is far too good a rider no to have a team place, but probably the averages are too high and promoters feel they can get better value elsewhere. I don't Know, but he is more than capable rider..... Allowing foreigners into the reserve slots is crazy. These places should be the gateway for British riders gaining experience and upping their game. We have a new rider in Jasper Andersen at reserve, Nice lad, but he is no better than lots of young English riders. Surely it would have been better for our sport to look the future and supply our own riders with opportunities ...... These BSPA people, never rule things as one would imagine they should.. ....

It is a sad reality, that will eventually happen to us all. I hope his family can take some comfort in the fact he lived his life, enjoying the sport, he so loved. His departure will be a sad loss, not only to his family and friends , but to the club also... RIP Gerald......... -

Thanks to 'Star Lady's ' announcement , although the problem is not at the door of the speedway, we can make arrangements to compensate any upheaval. So easy to do things properly... -
I wonder when the fans will be informed that, our Star performer Robert Lambert, will be missing from the Stars line up, when we play Poole away on June 13th. Apparently I have heard he is contracted to ride in Denmark that night.... Still Niels should be back by then,

For the sake of a small sentence on their website, or a quick Tweet , every Tom Dick and Harry that was going to the speedway would have been aware of the foreseeable problems.. How you can back them in this instance is beyond me....... There was only one reason we were not told, and we all know why that was..... -

Those road works had been on going since last October. They had supposed to been finished, and the roads had been clear. for the last 3 weeks. You live in another world with comments like that. you obviously don't do much travelling. ..... Next you'll be saying we need to check with the Highways site just to pop to the local shop. When we arrived at the speedway, the roads were open as per usual, one would have expected them to be open when we left. or to be told of anything different. We could have parked the car elsewhere, or gone home another way. but when you hear nothing , then its a big disappointment..... -

Really made a pigs ears of that prediction. Must say the Rebels performed far better than I imagined. They were in contention all-night and deserved their success. I enjoyed the racing, any match that goes down to the wire creates much excitement, just a shame we were on the losing side again. With the exception of Lambert and Kerr, all the rest had a night to forget.. Masters was poor as a guest, R/R usually takes its toll, But when your No 1 is missing, your backs are always against the wall. Up to heat 14, i was impressed with the way the meeting had flowed. It started dead on time; 4 heats gone and first grading at 8-10pm; Interval at 8-40pm; Second half started 9pm; Ht 14 accident 9-15pm 14min track grade before ht 15 , Racing finished 9-35 which was much better, ... ... but why have such a long track grade with only one race to go??? Once we got to the Car Park, the fun really began. it was grid locked, Nobody was moving, Cars were pushing for an advantage, but they were going no-where. There has to be a big problem !!. It took me 55 mins to get out of the big Car Park and onto the road, then another 15 mins to reach the traffic lights. before being directed through the town. Annoyed, I was lived, that the fans had not been informed of these planned 'Road Works' , where had we have known, we could have made arrangements to overcome the delay. Not living in Lynn, we had not seen these signs informing the public, but I am in no doubt the Speedway club had seen these signs and kept it quite. not wanting it to effect the attendance. Yeah , although we lost, the speedway racing had been good, but any enjoyment felt was lost with the 2hrs it took to get home. Again the fans were treated like mushrooms, when the only consideration was getting their money and not bothering with the fans traffic problems.... A warning on the website is all it would have taken... NB . When at the traffic lights, a delayed Tarmac lorry driver was amazed at the number of cars, 'Where have all these come from? he asked, From the speedway he learnt. 'How often does this happen ? he continued, Every Wednesday night..... It was obvious he had no knowledge of any Speedway happening, which highlights the fact there had been no communication between the road work people and that of the Speedway Promotions, and that I find totally inefficient ....... -

Quietly confident about tonight. Although some of the Rebels are going well, I'll be surprised if they get close enough to challenge for a point. I expect Dolye to score well and young Holder will hold his own, but the Stars are really singing at home and should reach low to mid 50's. Prediction : Stars winning 54 - 36 -
Appreciated the information, Wouldn't it have been better had the club were up front and kept their fans up to date. As for the vote of having the FRN on a Wednesday just highlights the 'I'm alright Jack philosophy' that has existed in the BSPA for more years than I care to remember. Nothing will ever change until they all put the 'Sport' FIRST, and their own 'Team' SECOND..... Only a group of 'Dimwits' would elect a FRN on the night when another country has priority. We are now, not allowed to race on a Tuesday, nor on a Thursday, or Friday. Sat and Sundays have never been an option, leaving our league with only Mondays as a free day, , which only Wolves want, and Wednesdays when the Danes have first choice. Would it have been possible to have got it more wrong than the way it has turned out.... I doubt it....

g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have never been a lover of the Rye House track, 12 years ago I vowed to never return, such was the processional experience. But these past couple of years it has served up much better than it once did. It will never be a NNS, but no doubt teams like Hackney and West Ham would love to be able to still go every week and watch their favourites ride, so it that sense, it doing a great job. Fans need to appreciate RH have a strong team, and at home will always be difficult to beat. Nobody have beaten them at home yet. Lynn have a new side, some never ridden here before. it was a big ask to expect then all to do as well as you say. We would have been up against it even with Niels there. Lambert, Kerr and Proctor all performed really well, as did Kennett, Nichols, Summers and Jakobsen . KK came to the party late on, so probably your expectation was too high. We were unlucky not to get a point but that was all we were ever going to get.... -

The state of the track is dictated by the amount of Grip it has. It was so evident last night, all the grip was on the outside and left little elsewhere. Not being a trackman as such, i can only comment from a spectators point of view, and I prefer to watch racing when there are multiple lines offering more overtaking.. This is not a complaint, merely an observation. As for dropping Niels I respect your opinion, but I would like to see him as our No.1; No 2 . But he serves no purpose if he is not in the team. Only time will tell, be it right or wrong, but so far this year he has a lot of disappointed fans.. -

g13webb replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Having watched the meeting again , one has to say we were very unlucky to come away without a point. Despite what the expert say, this is not an easy track, and made even worse with little or no grip. Once a top rider hits the front and stays near the fence the race is over. The gates became so important, and this why riders tried extra hard to judge them There were many anticipated starts, Summers in 1, and Kennett in 3 and 5 could all fall into that category, so it was unfair to pull back Proctor when he likewise made a lightening quick getaway in 10. Even Tatum said he could see no wrong. Kerr in Ht12 made another anticipated start and was pulled back, yet Busk Jacobsen got away with a flyer in ht 14. It seemed referee Bates was fussy who he wanted to penalise. The exclusion of Andersen in 6 was harsh, when everybody could see Summers took away his front wheel and foot. All 4 back would have been an easy conclusion, although I don't think it would have had a bearing on the score... It merely highlighting the ref's opinions... Once Niels had pulled out, we were never going to be in contention to win the meeting, but knowing the spirit with in the team I thought we might get a point. We needed the rub of the green to be in with a chance but when Kerr's chain broke, the task became even harder. Proctor, MPT and Kerr all battled hard to assist the super human effort of Lambert, but in the end it was not enough. TJ and JA will have better nights, but last night, it wasn't to be . A brave effort though....
