  1. Probably so, But I don't expect Peterborough to be able to afford such extravagance with their fine still to be paid....
  2. And there was I thinking, there wasn't any money in promoting Speedway.....
  3. Apologises about Belle Vue, I must admit Sedgman had slipped my mind. At the start of the year, I expected better from both Sedgman and Tungate, I thought they would out perform other more established names... But we look back and see both were disappointing. Tungate was supposed to be one of Somerset's big hitters. His points were that bad he was able to sign for Belle Vue as a second string. This wasn't a big success and it was only in later months did he start scoring points... If as you have said, Swindon had signed Tungate, I doubt whether they would have been as successful as they were. The signing of Musielak was without doubt the masterstroke, and if you had acquired Tungate, then probably the talented pole wouldn't have been an option. Some will say Rosco performed a miracle, in getting Musielak, a young talented Polish heatleader, on a 4 average. but in reality it made a mockery of every other riders average... and from that point Swindon were on a different planet... So yes, apologies again for that oversight, Looking back at the BV swap, to me, it was like for like. But the signing of Musielak was a game changer....
  4. Personally speaking, I believe this season has been as uninspiring as I can remember. Forgetting the catastrophic events at Lynn, the whole league hasn't been the inspiration the sport needed. To me Belle Vue has stood head and shoulders above the rest as they retained their original team they started with. Swindon and Wolves were both strengthened beyond recognition, using 2nd division averages as were the BSPA instruction.. and these three, were head and shouldered above the rest. The original thoughts of this being a close league, with all the teams in with a chance was shot to smithereens. The gap between the top and bottom teams were bigger than ever.... The organisation has been dreadful with little effort made to the detail, that is required for a league to run effectively. We have far too many DD's, We have too many meetings with riders absent when racing abroad, and far too many rain -offs. After going weeks in the summer with no meetings, some clubs had to race 5 meeting in a week just to get the fixtures completed. What an utter farce.... Too many meetings when the result was obvious before the start.... Nobody likes seeing their team get hammered every week. On a personal note, I have gone to less meetings this year, than in the 50 odd years of my support. Looking at the results like I do, most of the teams riding now are made up of guests. This really is insulting to the integrity of everyone connected with the sport. If we cant raise a team what is the point of the meeting... This relegation Playoff has been a exercise of what not to do. Two teams of vastly different strengths, trying to make the sport look exciting, but they failed miserably.
  5. Totally agree with that. What's the idea of Brundle's connection with BSPA, unless he is that of an additional expertise... Thought they had enough of them all ready.... You know what they say about too many Chiefs and not enough Indians...,
  6. Whichever system is used, there will always be winners and losers. I don't see any advantage, keep using a multiplier to achieve riders averages that are out of date. Lets move on with this new set-up, and use the old average for the first 6 meetings then adjust from there. It cant be that difficult to understand and far more accurate then them multipliers...... I've been giving this a lot of thought, Researching Brundle, he has had a fair amount of success in many different positions he has fulfilled. and no doubt could bring much to the table. Thinking about Buster, he will obviously want to turn Lynn around. He needs someone to take over who has experiences, ideas and finances, not necessary in Speedway but of a sporting nature. Brundle ticks all them boxes.... It was so evident last year, that Buster wants to carry on doing the chairman's job, even at the extent of taking his finger off the pulse at club level. I think Brundle could be the big turning point for the club. My one wish is that, If Buster does attend meetings at Saddlebow Road, he keeps in the background and keep his opinions to himself. The last thing we wants are argument with the riders and the track
  7. And here lies the problem with our sport.... Every years they seem to bring in another rule, another calculation, a new idea on the pretence of fairness. Back in the 60's and 70's, we had non of this. Each year, we raced the same format, most riders rode for the same club, and the average was a exact indication of their ability. Now it seems, the CMA is only a number, that can be manipulated to suit . I thought I heard, that last year was said to be the start of a new beginning and that the rules and race format will be the same each year...... We'll have to wait and see....
  8. I reckon you deserve a round of applause. What a pity the BSPA haven't thought of doing something similar. The world is full of pro-active people who want to improve things, and what better than to post them on line for poster to see. CookieIpswich, I take my hat off to you. I don't agree with some of the teams but that not important, what I like is that you have given this a lot of thought .......
  9. Why that then?? Last year ONLY , the BSPA gave the top riders loaded averages purely because the lesser riders had acquired easier CMA from their protected heat format. we use to have. ,But all that has now gone, Riders now acquired their CMA using the same format. So considering top riders like Doyle and Freddie were the only riders to top 9.00 score, then in my thinking Neils would be graded as something similar. I would like to think we could do better than Smolinski on a 7.56, I would look for a more talented rider on a lesser score to facilitate a better reserve.... But saying that, I like the look of the remainder..
  10. Nobody, least of all me, has ever suggested that the riders would ride here instead of Poland, It was always a scenario of 'and' , not 'instead of'. So it has everything to do with racenights If we were to arrange our fixtures on different night than the Poles, the Swedes and the Danes then probably top riders would have continued to ride here. That was before the Poles put a 3 team restriction on their riders..... The only fantasy here, is what you thought I wrote, instead of the actual comment. I am so aware that most riders are grabbing Ba-----ds and care nothing for the sport, only what they earn.....
  11. Finally we are hearing some common sense come into the organisation in keeping our two leagues separate days. I have heard that Mondays and Thursdays have been earmarked as Premiership days, but I don't think 2 days is enough to run a 12 team division. Probably a third day could be added to have 3 days for the Premiership and 3 days for the Championship, Although it wouldn't eliminate all the foreign meeting clashes, it would be far better than we have now with meetings on every day of the week... . Each year we wait to hear of new ideas to make our sport better. but are normally disappointed, Will this year be any different????
  12. Some of the comments on here are so far off the mark they are untrue. Sheffield, as like any other speedway team, were always going to struggle when their top two riders are missing. and so it turned out. I have always liked Sheffield's track, and have seen some unbelievable racing there. Because of recent usage and poor weather, last night it was not conducive for good racing and favours the gaters. That was not a true reflection on the standard of racing that can be seen there. There were still one or two good races with stunning moves round the boards though.... The gulf between the two leagues is getting smaller each year, I believe Nilsson was the only Leicester rider who don't ride in the 2nd division, and all the rest have vast experience of Sheffield track. Apart from the missing riders, the biggest difference last night was the quality of the reserves. Had the two teams swapped their 6/7's, the result would have been much closer. I thought Graversen and Wood struggled to show through, although Graversen did pick it up by the end. Not having been to Owlerton since Michael Lee was racing the likes of Dougie Wyer, Reg Wilson, Bob Valentine, Arnold Haley and Bengt Larsson it brought back some wonderful memories of the days when speedway had a true chevalier existence......... . Having seen all the current tracks used in the top league, they have nothing to be afraid of. I for one would love to see Sheffield back in the top division, a place where they belong....
  13. We could always reduce the teams to 6 riders. After all, most of the matches we watch, the Teams only have 6 riders and RR anyway......
  14. How does one differentiate the two leagues when the same riders ride in both. Surely that is the recipe for disaster. Why not have one league, double the number of fixtures, to enable each club having fixtures every week, and eliminate D/D altogether. If the powers want the sport to survive in this country, surely in would be more feasible to run the sport for the benefit paying fans, then arrange the rules to double the riders earning potential. We all know as soon as they are good enough they will desert us for pastures new....
  15. When I referred to the 'Sport' was crying out , it was in relation to all the people, be it The Fans, The Riders, and the clubs............. Bit like the Chicken and Egg scenario, The paying public wanted to watch the Top Riders, but the top riders wanted the fixed race nights. It was idiotic to believe those top riders would continue to ride in our leagues when the fixture schedule varied most days of the week. Fixed night racing would have helped in keeping those top riders racing here. keeping the Paying public happy. Now, when all those riders have long gone, the Paying Public can have their speedway on whichever day it happened to be , but they won't be watching them Top riders....
  16. The sport has been crying out for fixed race nights for years. Years ago when we had most of the world Stars competing here, all the top riders and some of the clubs, desperately wanted these fixed night enabling the Stars to arrange their hectic schedule. But each year it was passed over. Now , when all the stars have left our shores, the BSPA decide to implement Fixed night racing...... Talk about shutting the door after the Horse has bolted, you couldn't make this up...... Lets forget, trying to compete with other countries schedules, lets concentrate on our sport and organise the program to suit the riders who want to race in our leagues here....,
  17. I have no doubt that Brundle has the pedigree to make Lynn Speedway a force to be reckoned with. The big question is whether Buster gives him a free hand to develope the team or whether he has his hands tied behind his back..... Time will tell, but even Buster must realise another year like last, would be the end......
  18. Probably enjoyed this final as much as any other. Good meeting, Good racing, Close scores, Useless Starting Marshal , ( surely he could see the tapes were slack?? ) Last heat decider, everything you would expect from a tight final. I give Wolves a lot of credit for the way they fought to the end. To compete without you top 2 men and only lose by a solidary point is truly remarkable. It's probably, possible to replace Freddie and Jacob on away tracks, but to replace them at home is nine-on impossible. It was always the home leg where they were going to suffer. I appreciate it was not their fault, but had Swindon been forced to compete without Dolye and Morris, the match would've been over after the first leg. Those two riders acquired half of all Swindon points. So congratulations to Swindon, ( I can't imagine how it feels to win, Ha Ha !!) to me you deserve the crown for the form shown in the league. Had you have lost last night it really would have been unforgiveable against such a weakened side... NB. So pleased Woffy wasn't given permission to ride for Wolves , At least the BSPA got that one right . And best Wishes to Jason Doyle at the weekend. So want him to win the World Championship, as he is one of the few who still supports our league racing, here in the UK.....
  19. Surely, A three team tournament with Ipswich and Peterborough would generate sufficient interest to make it viable.... All we have had at Lynn since mid July is nothing meetings. Probably, if Buster put more importance in communicating with fans he would get a better response at the matches he does run....
  20. How do you determined a 'Nothing' meeting. ? Most of the matches throughout the season are 'Nothing Meetings' as its only the PO's that actually matter...
  21. There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in the Stars at the moment. If this thread is not used it will again drop from the main page, and that cant be good news. I feel so disappointed out season finishes so early, having no matches to attain and nothing to look forward to. These muppets who organise our league, appear to think, as we didn't finish near the top , then our fans don't deserve any more meetings. They only cater for those teams who are successful. Surely it wouldn't need rocket science to organise a end of season competition to keep those fans from them lower teams interested till the end of the season.. A four team Round Robin would fit the bill, or a 4 team knockout, anything would be better than we have at the moment. This sport needs as much promoting as it can get, whereas, ending the season in August is like shutting the door at the earliest opportunity...
  22. My original point was that a manager, with his finger on the pulse, would not have left a stone unturned, in a effort to ensure the track gave as much home advantage as possible... least of all he would have known what the track was like..... You say rain was forecast late afternoon, (4 till 7) So that being the case, it justifies why the track was prepared as such. But when it became known the forecast was wrong, surely Rosco had time to liaison with Ronnie Russell to work on the track to bring it in line with what the home side was expecting. It don't take that long. Considering this was the most important meeting raced at Swindon this year , I would have thought more effort could have been made.... .. Then again, what do I know. ... What I did see, was that Rory had his finger on the pulse and made sure his team were also dialled in as well......
  23. There's always an excuse when you are looking for one.. On Tatum's track inspection, he pointed out the state of the track being grippy on the inside and outside and slick in the middle. Surely Tatum wasn't the only person who checked the track out ?? .... Are you saying Rosco hadn't bothered to check because rain was forecast. Sez it all.......
  24. Really well done to Wolves last night, I wasn't surprised they put up a good show, but I never expected them to win like they did. Making Rory Captain was an excellent choice. When he was at Lynn he made an immense difference to the team by his motivation skills and, his encouragement to the riders. He creates so much spirit within the team, he was equivalent to having an extra man. Always a decent gater, he will always score well on difficult tracks. Seeing him perform last night, makes you realise, the massive blunder Buster made, when he publically slated Rory for stating the Lynn track was unsafe to ride... One thing puzzle me is that, if Rosco is such a top manager, wouldn't you have thought he would have assured the track was to their liking. Any home advantage disappears when the track is not to your liking..... They say, 'It's not over till the fat Lady sings', But I can hear her rehearsing her cords already......
  25. All these people who rave on about the Play-offs , will no doubt be having second thoughts now. I always said, having the league title decided by a H&A tie is never a good way of deciding the whole season of racing. As much as hate riders getting injured, it is always possible that title will be decided by a situation such as this. My heartfelt feelings go out to Freddie and Jacob for their injuries they have suffered, but in all honesty there is only one team who deserve to win the title this year. Winning 17 matches on the spin deserves that recognition. Surely it would be possible to retain the play-offs, but instead of only a 4 team knock-out tournament to determine the winners, why not add those extra points on to whose already amassed throughout the season, giving us the excitement of the PO but also the true winners every time. Then injuries at crucial times wouldn't be as damning and unfair, as they seem at the moment....
