Sky's Additions To It's Speedway Coverage.
oldace replied to Stephen7's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Why were they looking for something else to show on a Monday in the first place, almost forcing the RL to give them a live monday match. -
It is what many have been saying for years, first just me and Moxey but as the years go on more and more saying the same on here, that doesnt take into account the ones who dont care enough to bother posting and just disappear Everything you do in life has to evolve or die. Even your weekly supermarket trip. Of course essentially the groceries are the same but ASDA of 2013 is nothing like ASDA of 1983. The cinema, a visit to a modern multiplex is nothing like going to the odeon 30 years ago. The same applies to absolutely everything except speedway, the show in 2013 is exactly as it was in 1983 and it was tired then

Sky's Additions To It's Speedway Coverage.
oldace replied to Stephen7's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It is Wednesday because Rugby League has the live sport slot on a Monday. You get the feeling SKY are just honouring some sort of commitment to the sport before they can wash their hands of it come September -
And where are these pictures going to come from!!!!

Value For Money Speedway Vs Grasstrack
oldace replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes there is, its because she is a half wit who no one takes any notice of. She can get her anti BSI/GP bile into any thread. Best just to ignore her -
Swc, Event Two, King's Lynn 15/7
oldace replied to Northern Exile's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Be daft wouldn't it. Imagine for instance in a home and away Champions League game where one leg has resulted in a 1 all draw and the next leg had the home team winning 2/1 with a minute to go, could you imagine saying to the away team "if you score another goal to draw level at 3 goals each we will let you win. It would be a farce wouldn't it -
Not sure if you are taking the piss or just stupid. You probably think Die Hard 4 is better on netflix than love film Do you actually understand the basis of the broadcast? BSI effectively record the whole show themselves, complete with Nigel and Kelvins commentary. This is sold on to whoever buys the rights, previously SKY now Eurosport. There is a break every 4 heats and each broadcaster can do what they want in that segment, in SKYs case ad break and studio chat, in Eurosport case ad break and inane drivel. This is the only part that can be any different as to when SKY showed the broadcast. While it is nice to still have the GPs on TV it is ludicrous to compare a professional anchor man led studio segment to some wally talking crap in between having a few beers.

Parken Gp 2013
oldace replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
i imagine your personality is quite effective at getting rid of house quests double quick -
You don't get it Ian. No one would suggest a campaign to stop old folk attending, the point is, marketed and presented as it should be it is highly likely Speedway would have no attraction to them. Lots of oldies used to frequent Lakeside for the BDO darts, have a look at a modern evening of Premier League darts and see how many old folk are there, there is no campaign to stop them but presented that way they do not wish to attend Do you go to a nightclub on a Friday night in Sunderland? I am guessing the answer is no, now why is that do you think

Spot on, speedway cant look to be adding new fans to the majority of existing ones, the radical overhaul speedway needs to attract a new younger audience would (and should) alienate most of the geriatric sandwiches and Thermos brigade. The fact someone considered music as just a filler to be on whilst you chat and fill in your programme tells you something. There is more atmosphere at a Darby and Joan social evening. The correct music choice is the single biggest thing a presentation team has to use to build an atmosphere but clubs don't get it, but of course an 80 year old announcer wouldn't (and couldn't) get it

Indeed, almost double the cost it is here, pretty soon they will be in deep sh!t unless they get a grip fast
-
That is exactly right. Ironically in my case as costs kept increasing my spend per annum on speedway decreased slowly to zilch. At one time all the family home and away before wife and daughter stopped, then the away trips got binned before selected home matches only onto nothing at all. The promoters seem happy enough with falling attendances, content in the knowledge that a few lost fans can be accounted for by upping admission. It is the policy which has brought us to £20.00 speedway today (inc programme) I dread to think how much the last few dozen fans at the track will be paying!!
-
When we left Hyde Road in 1987 admission was £3.10 inc programme. That has increased by 500% to today. In perspective for every £100 you earned back then you would now need £600.00.

Making Up The Numbers .its Getting A Joke Now!
oldace replied to speedwaysliders's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Tsunami is part of the "establishment" if you like. With his sort of joined up thinking is it not obvious why the sport is going downhill -
Speedway is now very expensive in Poland, this is reflected in the falling attendances. Why the big issue over these so called overheads. A speedway bike is the simplest form of motorbike around and yet tuners charge a fortune, why?. Quite simply because they know the worth of a few extra points to a top rider. It is the high wages that have driven the high costs in the first instance.

Has There Ever Been A Spanish Speedway Rider?
oldace replied to msc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes indeed but Marshall wasn't Spanish, he was the son of a couple of ex pats who ran a bar over there. He did try his hand over here following that venture but was a very poor standard second half junior at best. Think it was Canterbury, he didn't stay long -
Run that by me again. Great coverage from Eurosport apart from 100% of Eurosport input which wasn't great!!!!!!! Which part of Eurosport coverage was "great" then ?

You're a legend aren't you You take being boring to a whole new level -
We would certainly still have it, that is what I am asking, at what level do you think it would be at?
-
Of course BSI pay for the rights, a considerable sum. They invest more into the sport than the old day promoters ever used to. The promoters of the sixties and seventies bled the sport dry without investing a penny into the infrastructure of the sport. While stadiums got ever more ramshackle plenty of promoters drove around in Rolls Royces before retiring to foreign climes on the back of a few years speedway promoting. BSI have given British Speedway a massive platform from which to build, it is not their fault that British Speedway hasn't capitalised on it. Out of interest where do you think the sports individual world championship would have been today were it not for the GP firstly and then the intervention of BSI
-
Unlikely, more likely just trying to cash in on the smash hit production that ran for 8 years from 1972. Bit like having a "one direction trophy" today
-
Tried your advice, my case comes up next week. I explained I had no intention of buying the 60" LED TV and therefore by stealing it I was not depriving Curry's of any money. I even pointed out that if I liked the TV I could end up legitimately purchasing another for the bedroom. Didn't seem to cut much ice with them

Wild Cards 2014

What jurisdiction would Olsen have anyway, OK its a BSI event but they want who they think puts a few on the gate, no way would Olsen over rule that -
Wild Cards 2014
oldace replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It couldn't be because Jepsen Jensen is far better than Larsen could it -
No, like he said, the winners got 340,000 euros. He wasn't referring to the speedway
