We have already had unnecessary new silencers forced on us which have done nothing for the sport(except kill the atmosphere)Yet another excuse to sanitise our sport in the name of health and safety / green issues. The do gooders wont be happy until you can hear a pin drop.Leave our sport alone

Poole Make Financial Loss In 2012
New Science replied to philcrumpisgod's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
You could do a lot worse than having Matt Ford as your promoter, the guy gives the club stability and puts his hand in his pocket to give you a competitive team and signs the worlds best riders year after year.So if the guy makes a few bob out of it so what,if your successful you deserve it,Matt speculates to accumulate ! Matt Ford and Poole are successful,as a fan what more do you want ! -
Poole Make Financial Loss In 2012
New Science replied to philcrumpisgod's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Joking aside ! Poole have had 3 successful seasons in a row in the league, top end of the table regular season and play off finalists 3 years in a row.It would be interesting to know how the finances compare at Poole for those 3 years of similar success.Another topic on this forum debates the start of the decline of the sport,it would be interesting to see the finances at Poole to see if there has been a significant decline in revenue since 2010.Guess we will never know but a comparison of 2010,2011 and 2012 would be interesting ! -

What Gp To See
New Science replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Went to Terenzano in 2010,stopped in Udine, its a really nice city only 15 minutes away by taxi from the track. Also spent a day in Venice, only one and a half hours away by train, classic Italian city. There is plenty to see if you are there for the weekend. My jibe was at the speedway star travel club brochure which has more spin than Shane Warne -

Not like you not to toe the party line Phil !Speedway Star Travel Club brochure describes Terenzano as a pacey track always producing a top class meeting with plenty of racing lines, especially as the meeting progresses. -

No More Semi-final Gate Picks
New Science replied to Ghostwalker's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Or we could just leave it as it is.The format of the GP has evolved over time to be about as fair as it can be,why the need to reinvent the wheel.I can't think of many occasions this year when the GP has over run its 3 hour slot(except maybe for a serious incident,Hampel in Copenhagen)If its not broken why try to fix it.Hopefully common sense will prevail. -

Next Years Gp

As much as I like Tai as a rider, the way BSI stated his case(good league form and a good world cup playoff)was a tad embarrassing.Compare it to Jepson jensens credentials (probable world u21 champion,an actual GP win this year and a world cup win).Yes politics and revenue streams do come in to it,not that BSI will publicly admit it. Although on the flip side having a British rider to support in the series home and abroad does add something to the series for me.Rather than watching as a neutral, I will proudly wear my union jack,(without a british rider there didn't seem much point and will display me 6 foot home made Tai woffinden flag at all the GP,S I attend.Personally I think Tai's reputation being out of the GP,s has improved while Chris Harris has seen his reputation plummet by actually being in the series,BSI's big problem will be if Woffinden struggles like most predict,on the face of it he seems like Britain's last hope -
The word on the Polish forums is that the 4 wild cards will be Ward,Woffinden.Jepsen Jensen and grigory Laguta. No place for Hampel Still to be confirmed thou.

Yes but they are prepared to do what other venues are not ie pay a large sanctioning fee to BSI.Money will always be king not what might be best for riders, fans or a TV audience or the sport in general. It has been shown that you can have a GP anywhere in the world(New Zealand)as long as you are prepared to pay for it yourself.

Cardiff 2012 Entertainment
New Science replied to bingbangbong's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Will there be an alternative meet up venue this year, always looked forward to a few beers in Walkabout on the Friday night We are still waiting for you to name somewhere. From a 1000 venues you have gone down to a hundred and now down to 15-20.We need a meet up venue which can accommodate hundreds of speedway fans alongside the throngs of cardiff locals on a summers night out, baring walkabout can't think of many venues that have the capacity and are open late enough.Over to you SCB (or anyone else who has ideas) would be a shame to not have a central meet up venue ! -
Grand Prix Crowds
New Science replied to mickthemuppet's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Organisers must be scratching their heads (like me) at another poor crowd at this years world cup final.Predictions from the SKY commentary on Thursday that there wouldn't be a ticket to had proved wide of the mark. Disappointing as the hosts were seeded direct through to the final and selling all tickets as duel tickets which included race off and final.Listening to Paul Bellamy last night it seems Prague might be the hosts next year.Seeding the czech's to the final effectively makes the final a 3 team event and wont ensure a good crowd, only the participation of the Pole's and their travelling fans will ensure that.Think some serious thinking needs to be done about the venues and particularly seeding host teams to the final as this year the hosts Didn't attract the crowds expected or offer much competition in the final.Wanting to take the event to other countries is admirable but if financially it makes sense to hold it in the major nations and it avoids seeding then so be it.Rumour had it that the world cup was coming to Britain next year,Has this idea gone cold ?. -
World Cup Final 14th July
New Science replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think someone must have had a word in Nigel Pearson's ear last night. After the 2nd race of slowing down to concede positions he immediately labelled it " a farce" yet 5 minutes later he described it as "great entertainment for the newcomers".Not sure the guys in charge at Sky will won't the Speedway World Cup final being described as a farce but to be fair to Nigel this time he did call it right 1st time of asking. -
Grand Prix Crowds

90% of the tickets were priced at 35 and 40 zlotys roughly 7 and 8 pounds.Baring giving them away don't see how they can be much cheaper ! -

Grand Prix Crowds

Interesting to see another poor crowd in Poland for the 1st round of the world cup.On paper this meeting seems to have the lot,Home nation Poland involved, the meeting at Bydgoszcz in Polands speedway heartland and a venue without a GP for 2 years,Bydgoszcz legend Gollob returning, cheap ticket prices and good weather.I'm sure the organisers will be disappointed this event has not caught the Polish public's imagination. -
Grand Prix Crowds
New Science replied to mickthemuppet's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Another worrying sign last night with blocks of empty seats at Gorzow for the Polish GP.Reading the speedway star the crowds in Poland seem to be significantly down in League racing. With only a 17,000 capacity this is the 2nd round in Poland which has attracted a below par crowd. Traditionally the Gorzow club used to fill this stadium with their own supporters for league matches, could the Poles be falling out of love with speedway ?.BSI may be thinking twice about potentially taking the Sgp to a huge stadium in Warsaw away of the speedway heartlands. What with the increased costs and having to promote it themselves this would be a large financial gamble. -
Think messers Holder, Ward and Miedinzski must know how the rest of British speedway fans feel now after getting a drubbing on home shale.Must stay after not watching Polish speedway for a while they have some strange rules, not being able to award a heat when 2 riders of the same team take each other out on a certain 1-5 on the last lap and the afterthought that seem to be the reserves who having 2 rides each have little effect on the match.Good gating was very important today with even the twins struggling when they were at the back.
