Speedway World Cup 2017
New Science replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Back tonight to what makes the World Cup great, 4 relatively evenly matched sides on a great track with racing to match which was ruthless and at times desperate. Great work from Latvia, humbling the mighty Denmark, its been an absolute disaster since Hans Nielsen took charge. Another plus tonight was Natalie Quirke back front and centre, are you watching BT, great job Natalie and Scott -

Do you think its any coincidence that the World Games are also on Woffindens home track in Poland , Woffinden wants to flit in and out of the Team GB set up picking and choosing when he wants to represent Team GB , hiding behind "differences with the BSPA" when he doesn't fancy it then all is forgotten when he does fancy it. If Phil Rising is correct about the World Cup potentially returning to Manchester Woffinden will have circled it on his calendar already. A one off meeting, World Cup Final, 2 hours from home , perfect. Well unfortunately Mr Woffinden we needed you this week as well, to give us a fighting chance of winning a medal in Poland and unfortunately you have chosen to go missing, no rider no matter how good has a right to a blank cheque to check in and check out of representing Team GB when they fancy it. you may be the best rider we have but this a team event, if you are not totally committed then stand aside permanently and give the place to someone who is. -

Just ignore Gavan R and R . If Woffinden killed bambi Gavan would say Bambi was asking for it. -
If Tai is simply defending himself as you say why is there a need to delete these tweets

Read this weeks Speedway Star, riders moaning about the state of the track at Somerset Yesterdays attendance at Lords wasn't that bad given the fact the 2 teams only had 1 week to sell tickets. The capacity at Lords 32.000 is also a little bit bigger than Kings Lynn at 8500

Sure I,m not the first to say this but surely it would be better to seed the host country to the race off. Winners of Event 1 and 2 straight to the final, the 2 second places plus the best 3rd place to join the hosts in the race off with 2 to qualify from that meeting to the final.. The race off has lost a little bit with only the winner going to the final, If 1 team has a good start to the meeting , the joker becomes the key to the meeting which is not great, with 2 to the final from the race off it keeps the meeting alive if one team clears off. The hosts still get to promote a big meeting on the Friday, with the probability that the hosts will qualify for the final. Expecting to see a big differential between the crowd for the race off and final in Leszno this week, if the Poles were in both meetings it would be packed for both. -
Got to agree , there seems to be moans and groans about nearly all the tracks in the Premiership except Belle Vue.

On that basis looking forward to seeing the biggest attendance of the GP season in Germany, with the largest population of all the countries holding a GP -

British fans don't particularly enjoy travelling to the outpost that is Cardiff , similarly all fans at the Warsaw GP have to travel from the speedway heartlands of Poland , hundreds of miles away but still both venues attract over 40 thousand. Similarly neither nation has had the abundance of World Champions that Denmark has but still the large attendances in both counties remain strong. Thats why they are the last 2 major markets in the GP series -
Think its plain to see from last night that despite criticism over the last couple of years over the surface at Wimborne Road that there is not much appetite to fix the issues . Whether Matt Ford has run out of money or wants out of Poole or is waiting for the stadium development, these track problems don't look like being fixed anytime soon. Not exactly fair on their paying customers

Must admit don't like the camera angles, something you could not complain about with Sky

A 10.000 crowd in supposingly one of the Worlds major speedway nations is not a good result. Crowds at Vojens were significantly better than this in years gone by -

Woffinden has such an issue with Rossiter that he declares himself available to ride in the World Games -
Good article in this weeks Star by its best writer Peter Oakes on the BT sport coverage. Very balanced

Its a sad fact now but the only 2 major markets for the SGP are Poland and Great Britain -

Good stuff from Horsens last night, just how tough is Jason Doyle. Always surprised when I see empty seats at this GP with only an 11,500 capacity. -
Why is there not a rule out there in sport which says once you have represented one country you cannot represent another, it makes it even worse when that qualification comes through residency. It makes a mockery out of sport, Irish cricketers are some of the worst culprits, represent Ireland, then see a better offer for England then in some cases return to Ireland. Just don't see there is an appetite to change these regulations as the bigger nations in cricket , rugby etc are the ones who benefit most.

Your crusade is a noble one Phil but don't expect anything positive to come from the F.I.M. What have they ever done for speedway ?. Reading this weeks Star Mr Castagna still thinks Poland only ride on Sundays, sadly not its now Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays. Poland this year have been trying and succeeding in flexing their muscles by restricting the trade of riders which participate in their league with a convenient silence from the F.I.M. It looks like they have friends at the F.I.M who now seem interested in insisting Britain relocate its league speedway to just 1 or 2 days.,in principle allowing Poland to have even more dates of their choice. Lets be honest we can't afford all these top riders anyway so I would tell the F.I.M to sling their hook. And to concur I am fully in agreement with your opinion on Rory Schlien, A good servant to British speedway but when you represent one country , you cannot change your nationality

Woffinden doesn't want to ride in the World Cup, end of, its not Rossiters fault. Woffinden was quite happy to ride in the World Games on his Polish track with Rossiter in charge -

I know there are many who aren't prepared to cut Greg any slack but he has appeared in the World Cup since 1989. He has given USA good service over almost 30 years with last 10 the USA having little chance of winning. Can't think of anyone else in a motor sport who would get stick for not competing at 46. Admittedly I didn't feel comfortable with his absence from the race off last year after doing so much to ensure the USA qualified but I think we should look at the big picture -

To be fair to Greg he is 46 and ridden in virtually every World Cup since he's been in his early twenties
