Having read the preview for the Sheffield Ipswich meeting, it was blatantly obvious that little effort was going to be made from an Ipswich perspective. âShould put on a show for the paying publicâ etc etc, but Ipswich have far bigger fish to fry and the reality is itâs natural to hold back and not risk injury with a grand final less than a fortnight away. I wouldnât be at all surprised if the Ipswich riders were on some sort of staggered guarantee for that meeting, helped by the sponsor. From the managers comments, they certainly had little interest in exerting themselves.

Don't be so bloody thin skinned. Some of the criticism has been justified. The track for instance has been publicly criticised by your own damn riders for christ sake.
-
Of course itâs meaningless, how can anyone say Thursdays Meeting isnât meaningless with a straight face! It would have had something riding on it (semi final opponents) had the fixture been fulfilled pre-cut off, but unfortunately it was postponed and the fixture has to be fulfilled. Reading the previews for this meeting, it comes across as a meeting that nobody particularly wants. Whatever your definition of âmeaninglessâ is, is irrelevant anyway to the point being made which was comparing an absence to a fixture with absolutely nothing riding on it, to an important club fixture where a place in a grand final is at stake.

Not sure why you keep banging on about this because youâre comparing apples with oranges! If Kurtz couldnât be @rsed in a completely meaningless fixture like the Sheffield Ipswich one on Thursday, then nobody would have batted an eyelid. But it wasnât a meaningless fixture he couldnât be @rsed in was it? It was his teamâs play off semi final!

Not sure what youâre talking about here marko, and youâve seemingly missed my point. I was responding to mikebv who made a jibe at Gavan about going missing from the forum for a few days if Ipswich fail to win. I was simply saying his fellow Belle Vue supporters who have been vociferous all year about how great Belle Vue are, have done exactly that, disappeared once they got knocked out.

Iâm really not sure which of the two it is, and I wish now Iâd asked. But was told by the Hat that there isnât going to be one league, was never going to be one league, and that at least one Championship club would get more of a help via TV money to be competitive in a move up. Some interesting changes i.e rules/regulations, team building rules etc incoming also.

Belle Vue -V- Ipswich POSF leg 1
Steve Irving replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This was your last contribution on a Belle Vue thread, way back on September 6th. Is everything ok Geoff? Hope youâre well.. Did you think it was a âcrackerâ by the way, Geoff? -
Ipswich v Belle Vue POSF Leg 2

Totally disagree and as it turned out, the track wasnât âroughâ in the slightest. The weather was the only thing that made things tricky to begin with before it dried and sickened off. It would have made absolutely no sense to purposely rough up a track that theyâve comprehensively whooped Belle Vue on all year! The only thing could have done, was upset the home riders more and and make the result a bit of a lottery. Ipswich are far superior to Belle Vue this year, no âtricksâ were needed or necessary. -
Or both of them? Or any two. Two leagues of seven teams. There is zero chance they will self destruct completely by having one league, with a lot of weekend clubs meaning none of the top boys realistically riding over here. Rumour is more TV money will be given to top flight clubs, so that will help two Championship clubs in moving up.

Not sure why anyone would worry to be honest. Theyâre winning it at a canter. Absolutely zero chance they throw in a performance like they did at home to Sheffield a few weeks ago when it really matters in a play off final. Everyone knew before a wheel was turned that it would take an injury or two to important riders for anyone else to have a chance. That may still happen of course! SON coming up. But if it doesnât, thereâs only one winner. More than happy to be vaulted in a few weeks time.

Ipswich v Belle Vue POSF Leg 2
Steve Irving replied to blue witch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
âThese fixtures are only qualifiers weâll be there when it really mattersâ âLetâs wait until Septemberâ Well Belle Vue stank in the âqualifiersâ, and then they stank in the play offs too. Whoâd have thunk it! Where is Acebelle and Ouch by the way? They seemed to have disappeared.. -
Belle Vue -V- Ipswich POSF leg 1

Youâre making absolutely no sense here whatsoever. âStill couldnât beat themâ? Well neither Sheffield or Leicester have beaten Belle Vue there either have they? And yet according to you, because of tonightâs result theyâll now fancy their chances? You seem very confused and to be honest, a bit bitter. Neither Sheffield OR Leicester will be fancying their chances. Theyâll be second favourites in the final and theyâll know that full well. -

Iâve pulled you up on this before and itâs been a while since youâve regurgitated this nonsense. Right from the start of the season you seemed to take offence at every man and his dog tipping Ipswich to win comfortably and you wrongly labelled Ipswich supporters on here âarrogantâ. You havenât specifically said Ipswich fans this time in your post, but itâs obvious who you meant. The Ipswich supporters actually were the ones who were much more reserved about their chances because of the way theyâve been burned the past couple of years, it was supporters of other clubs that basically wrote the season off as Ipswich were going to clean house. When you argued against this, I asked you to quote these âarrogant Ipswich fansâ posts, and surprise surprise you disappeared because said posts didnât exist. Others joined you in sticking the boot in and it all became a bit bizarre. The usual suspects from Belle Vue joined the party, as did one or two of your fellow Leicester supporters, and unsurprisingly, one vociferous Kingâs Lynn supporter. None of them could back up the cr@p they were coming out with by actually pulling up the quotes they were all whinging about. The only ones that didnât seem to pile in were anyone from Sheffield so for that reason, if Ipswich donât manage to pull it off, I hope they do. One poster, @szkocjasid , was the one who asked the question, âcan they win every meetingâ after Ipswich were blowing everyone away early doors. He didnât say they would to be fair to him, but he asked the question. I personally hope Ipswich win this and I hope others who donât have a horse in the race do too. Iâve an awful lot of respect for the way Chris Louis runs his club. A proper speedway man and as it turns out, a very good and professional business man too. If others in the sport ran their clubs as professionally as Louis does his, we wouldnât be in half the bloody mess we currently find ourselves in. -
If that happens Iâll give you the money meself.

It still doesnât sit well with me that the top team doesnât win it. Imagine finishing top of the premier league and yet not winning the title, but instead having to enter a play off system with five other teams who made up the top 6. Yes you get play offs in lower divisions, but thatâs for promotion. The top team are still champions! Ipswich will finish top, theyâve taken every single aggregate bonus point in both rounds of fixtures against every club (unless Sheffield manage to be the first next week) and yet could end up empty handed by having an off night in the semiâs or final. Yes, those are the ârulesâ and everyone knows them before a wheel is turned, but itâs a nonsense. Theyâre the best team in the league (not Leicester as some comically have been claiming in recent weeks), and deserve to be champions. Why not have the team that finished top are champions, but thereâs still a top four race to prolong meaningful fixtures, by having the top four then enter the KOC, two semis and a final? That also does away with the farcical situation of having odd teams enter, and one club getting a âbyeâ.

Everything I said was true, you just donât like it because your team were the ones that pinched it. Just admit you took advantage of another teams terrible misfortune and got away with one that you didnât deserve đ
