Thought Olly Allen would be our nailed on number 1 for next season! http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/homepage BARKER BIDDING FOR GLORY Wednesday August 19, 2015 STAR signing Ben Barker wants to become a Premier League champion for the first time with Peterborough. The fit-again Cornish flyer makes his Readypower Panthers debut against Newcastle at the East of England Showground on Friday night (7.30pm) after being snapped up yesterday. And Barker is convinced he can the team better on and off the track in the remaining weeks a season he hopes will end with a silver lining. He said: "I've not won anything in the Premier League in the past and hopefully this is the year that can change. "I've not just come here for a few meetings. I'm here to get to the play-offs and go for the title. "I know Peterborough have had a lot of injuries this year, but they've clearly got a good team. "I just want to add to that and hopefully I can get started by winning heat four on Friday night and going from there. "I've guested a couple of times and the spirit in the pits is great. I'm a good team man and hopefully I can boost it even further. "I'll do everything I can to score points myself and help the other guys." Barker has made a faster-than-expected recovery to return to action this season. He had initially been told to expected to sit out the rest of the 2015 campaign after suffering several broken vertebrae in a horror British Final crash back in June. But, two months on, he has declared himself fit for battle and he is determined to start boosting an average which has fallen to 7.55. Barker added: "I was initially told I wouldn't be back until next year after my crash, but my recovery has gone really well. "I've had some fantastic treatment and been lucky enough to have some great family around me. "It's only in the last couple of weeks I realised I could get back this season and I'm delighted to be a Peterborough rider. "It was an easy decision to make when I knew they were interested."

Panthers ditch Lambert in favour of Barker Axed Panthers rider Robert Lambert during his last meeting for the city club against Edinburgh. Photo: David Lowndes. Mark Plummer 23:43Tuesday 18 August 2015 Play-off chasing Peterborough Panthers have axed teenage star Robert Lambert . . . and replaced him with top Premier League performer Ben Barker. The city club announced the surprise move, which will go through once receiving British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) clearance, late tonight (August 18). Panthers chiefs have refused to go into detail about the reasons behind the switch. A club statement claims the decision has been made ‘in the best interests of the club’. It stated: “It goes without saying that we thank Robert for his contribution to what we hope will be a memorable season for the club. “We are also in no doubt that he will go on to fulfil his potential and become a top rider in the future, but right now we have made this decision with the best interests of the club in mind. “We will make no further comment on the decision and now wish to focus fully on the crucial meetings ahead.” Great Britain international Lambert has only appeared in just over half of Panthers’ fixtures in his debut season in the second tier due to injury, illness and fixture clashes. It means his last act for the club was tumbling out of a home defeat at the hands of Premier League table-toppers Edinburgh 10 days ago. New recruit Barker has been passed fit to return to racing after suffering back and neck injuries in a horror crash in the British Final in June. He spent almost a month in hospital and was replaced by previous club Berwick which left the door open for Panthers to make their move. The club statement continued: “We are delighted to have agreed a deal to bring one of the top performers in Premier League speedway to Peterborough. “Ben is not only a very talented rider, he is also a hugely exciting one who has previously guested for us on a couple of occasions this season to great effect. “His experience and knowledge will be big assets in the final weeks of the season and there is no doubt his arrival will boost our chances of battling for honours. “We have six crucial meetings remaining in the regular season and the challenge for the riders is to finish in second place. “We have a bit of ground to make up on Glasgow, but we have the meetings in hand and we have the quality to get results home and away.” Barker arrives on a 7.55 average which puts him second in the club’s averages. He is in line for a debut when Panthers host Newcastle at the East of England Showground on Friday night (7.30pm). Currently injured captain Ulrich Ostergaard now reverts to number one in place of the departed Lambert. King’s Lynn man Nicklas Porsing will guest in that position against Newcastle. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/panthers-ditch-lambert-in-favour-of-barker-1-6911341 Good Luck Benny Boy!

CAPTAIN CRASHES Monday August 17, 2015 PETERBOROUGH will closely monitor the situation after stand-in skipper Lewis Blackbird was involved in a crash on Elite League duty tonight (Monday). Blackbird was advised to withdraw by medical staff after hitting the deck in his second ride in Wolverhampton's basement battle against Leicester at Monmore Green. Blackbird was caught up in a spill also involving Lions guest Jason Garrity and Readypower Panthers promoter Ged Rathbone said: "We've had word from Lewis' camp that he was withdrawn as a precaution so hopefully it is nothing too serious. "We certainly can't afford to be hit with any more injuries as we prepare for the most important spell in our season." Panthers begin their Premier League run-in when entertaining Newcastle at the East of England Showground on Friday. They are homing in on a play-off spot as they sit third in the standings with six meetings of the regular season remaining. http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/

Robert Lambert to win this! -
TEAM PLANS FOR TOP CLASHES Wednesday August 05, 2015 PETERBOROUGH are hopeful new number one Robert Lambert will be able to take his place in their team for two mouth-watering Premier League clashes in the coming days. Lambert, who has moved to the top of the club's averages for August, has been passed fit for two clashes against table-topping Edinburgh in the space of three days. Third-placed Readypower Panthers face a Friday-night trip to Scotland and a Sunday return clash at the East of England Showground. The shoulder problem that forced the 17 year-old out of the Premier League Fours meeting at the weekend has been successfully treated - and promoter Ged Rathbone is delighted to see him back at a time when Panthers are beset by major injury problems. The Speedway Control Bureau (SCB) did suspend Lambert over his non-appearance in the Fours, but the necessary paperwork was received for that to be lifted. The club now await British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA) clearance for him to resume racing. Rathbone said: "It was a blow for everyone to not have Robert riding in the Fours, but his injury has responded well to treatment from our sports therapist Lauren Wood. "It will be great if we have him back in action in two very important meetings that could have a big impact on the play-off picture - especially as we have two big riders in Ulrich Ostergaard and Simon Lambert out injured." Panthers will operate the rider replacement facility for injured captain Ostergaard with all members of the team able to take an extra outing. Panthers website!

Robert Lambert flies the flag for Panthers Robert Lambert in action. 08:58Wednesday 05 August 2015 Teenage talent Robert Lambert is the Peterborough Panthers representative in the big Premier League Riders’ Championship. Lambert, who takes over as Readypower Panthers number one for August, lines up in a high-class field at Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield on Sunday, September 6. The meeting features the top rider from all 13 second tier clubs, fitness permitting, along with the three riders with the highest averages not already involved. And Supremo Ged Rathbone reckons Lambert is capable of providing the club with a second successive PLRC podium finish after skipper Ulrich Ostergaard’s third place in 2014. Rathbone said: “There is no doubt Robert is capable of putting on a great show at Sheffield. “He has proven his class at Premier League, Elite League and international levels already this year. “It would be great for the club to have another rider on the podium after Ulrich did so well 12 months ago.” Lambert was a late withdrawal from the Peterborough quartet for the Premier League Fours meeting at the East of England Showground on Sunday, which was abandoned following the awful crash which left Newcastle rider Lewis Kerr in an induced coma. Lambert complained of a shoulder injury picked up when loading his bikes into his van after completing a successful Saturday night guest booking for Premier League rivals Rye House and received treatment from Panthers’ sports therapist, Lauren Wood, on Sunday. Rathbone added: “We are one of the only clubs in the country to be lucky enough to have a sports therapist to work with our riders and Lauren is a real asset. “Robert had not chosen to take advantage of this previously, but on Sunday he did have treatment while at the Showground. Follow-up treatment was also offered along with guidance on shoulder injuries being given. “We will do our utmost as a club to ensure Robert gets back to full fitness but, as with any rider, we want him to take the time he needs before returning when feeling ready.” Panthers return to action on Friday with a trip to table-topping Edinburgh before welcoming the Monarchs to the East of England Showground on Sunday (5pm). Premier League Riders’ Championship draw: 1 Robert Lambert (Peterborough) , 2 Richard Lawson (Glasgow), 3 Nick Morris (Glasgow), 4 Danny King (Ipswich), 5 Steve Worrall (Newcastle), 6 Craig Cook (Edinburgh), 7 Ricky Wells (Workington), 8 Sam Masters (Edinburgh), 9 Matej Kus (Redcar), 10 Thomas Jorgensen (Berwick), 11 Brady Kurtz (Somerset), 12 Jason Garrity (Sheffield), 13 Josh Grajczonek (Somerset), 14 Ryan Douglas (Scunthorpe), 15 Kyle Newman (Plymouth), 16 Edward Kennett (Rye House). ULRICH UPDATE Monday August 03, 2015 PETERBOROUGH captain Ulrich Ostergaard has become the club’s latest injury casualty. The Readypower Panthers skipper Ulrich Ostergaard suffered broken bones in his left hand when involved a crash during the abandoned Premier League Fours meeting at the East of England Showground yesterday (Sunday). Ostergaard tangled with Ipswich rider Nico Covatti in the sixth heat of the first semi-final in which Panthers brought up the rear on six points. He underwent x-rays at Peterborough City Hospital where he was put into plaster before being released. Promoter Ged Rathbone said: “The x-rays confirmed a number of breaks in Ulrich’s left hand and he will obviously be out for a while. “The doctors told him to expect the recovery to take up to six weeks, but Ulrich is determined to be back racing within a month. “It is the latest in a long line of injuries which have hit us hard this season, but we have battled on and are still in a good league position. "We need to get through the two meetings against Edinburgh later this week as best we can and then take stock of the situation.” Ostergaard, who relinquishes the number one spot to Robert Lambert in the new August averages, joins prolific reserve Simon Lambert on the injured list. He is nursing a broken shoulder blade and is due to return to his specialist later this week for further tests. The club will confirm their team plans for two fixtures in the space of three days against the table-topping Monarchs as soon as they are able to do so. They travel to Armadale on Friday (August 7) ahead of a return clash at the East of England Showground on Sunday (August 9). http://www.peterboroughpanthers.co/news.php?extend.2580

Panthers: Injured Simon is simply frustrated by his lay-off Simon Lambert has been missed by the Peterborough Panthers. Mark Plummer 12:19Thursday 30 July 2015 Stricken Peterborough Panthers star Simon Lambert has spoken of his frustration at seeing his best-ever season interrupted by injury. The high-scoring reserve match-winner is out with a broken shoulder blade sustained in a smash in an individual meeting 10 days ago. ADVERTISING It was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time as he was dumped on the deck by a rival rider – and that’s been a familiar story during the 26 year-old’s career. Lambert admitted: “No speedway rider wants to be sat at home injured. The fact it happened in an individual meeting and wasn’t my fault just makes it more frustrating. “It is the second time this year I’ve had a big bang that hasn’t been down to me. The same thing happened in our win at Newcastle when I got taken out. “That’s been the story of my career unfortunately. I’m not the sort of rider who leaves his brain in the toolbox when he goes out onto the track, but I still seem to get caught up in crashes. “This has been my best season in the Premier League by some distance and the last thing I want is to have to sit out meetings. “I’ve only had two bad meetings all year and hopefully I can pick my form back up when I’m fit again.” An initial comeback date of August 9 has already proved to be too ambitious for Lambert, but a home Premier League clash against Newcastle on August 21 has now been pencilled in for a possible return. But he has revealed the situation could have been a lot worse. His broken shoulder blade was millimetres away from causing season-ending damage. Lambert added: “I went to Peterborough City Hospital after the crash and they gave me an appointment to go back on August 10 which was not a lot of use. “I decided to go private and it soon became clear I’ve been lucky not to have done a lot more damage. “If the fracture had gone two or three millimetres to the left my entire shoulder socket would have been smashed to bits and that would have been my season over. “Thankfully that’s not the case and I’m giving the shoulder two weeks of complete rest before taking things from there. The doctors said to expect to be out for between six and eight weeks, but I’m hoping it will be a lot closer to four-to-six weeks. “I might be able to have some laser treatment to speed up the final part of the recovery and get me back a bit quicker. “I’m hoping to be okay for the Newcastle meeting, but this is not a time to be taking any chances with the play-offs just around the corner. “The club management have told me not to rush back.”

PANTHERS PRAISE FOR BSPA Monday July 27, 2015 PETERBOROUGH supremo Ged Rathbone has praised the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). The governing body have granted Readypower Panthers special dispensation to use teen talent Robert Lambert and recent recruit Emil Grondal as injury replacements in the big Premier League Fours extravaganza at the East of England Showground on Sunday. The club had feared they may not be able to field four riders due to having riders sidelined and others initially being deemed ineligible. They can now also use Rafal Konopka as reserve if necessary. Rathbone said: "I applaud and thank the BSPA for giving us permission to track Robert and Emil in the Premier League Fours due to our exceptional circumstances. "We now hope to be able to field a team worthy of such an occasion and capable of challenging to win the club's first trophy for some time." The club will finalise their chosen quartet as quickly as possible. great news
