Half century should be enough for the play-offs Robert Lambert misses the Sheffield meeting. 09:01Thursday 16 July 2015 Panthers have been set a 50-point target to seal their place in the Premier League play-offs. Joint team boss Carl Johnson is convinced a half century will prove enough to clinch a top-six spot and a tilt at honours. And, with the city racers having already banked 33 points from their 13 meetings to date, they are bang on track with almost half the season remaining. Johnson said: “I feel sure that 50 points will guarantee a play-off place. “We’ve done very well so far with our away record being particularly pleasing. We’ve actually picked up more points on the road than at home. “The foundations for a very good season are in place and it is a case of staying focused and getting the remaining points we need, “But we are not just going to settle for being in the top six – we want to finish as high as we possibly can.” There is an added incentive with the top two finishers advancing straight to the semi-finals of the revamped play-offs. The sides finishing between third and sixth will contest the quarter-finals. Panthers currently sit level with reigning champions Edinburgh at the Premier League summit and entertain another play-off chasing side tomorrow night when Sheffield visit the East of England Showground (7.30pm). They will go into battle without teenage sensation Robert Lambert, who is still being troubled by the hip problem picked up when crashing out of a televised triumph at Berwick eight days ago. Lambert’s new average of 8.53 has taken effect, but captain Ulrich Ostergaard remains at number one on his mark of 8.63. That means the youngster can only be covered by the rider replacement facility with Danish ace Michael Palm Toft cleared to return after a bout of chicken pox. Johnson added: “It’s a big meeting for both teams with us in such close proximity in the table. “A win would give us a bit more breathing space over them whereas a victory for Sheffield would see them leapfrog us and boost their own play-off hopes. “They have drafted in a couple of guests who ride the Showground well so it could be a classic.” Sheffield are plagued by injury problems with Andre Compton and Ashley Birks joining long-term absentee Simon Stead, arguably the top rider in the Premier League, on the casualty list. They draft in Rye House man Edward Kennett and Berwick skipper Kevin Doolan as guests in addition to using the rider replacement facility. Sheffield have signed Italian prospect Paco Castagna, but Tigers bosses have been forced to delay his debut to next week as he is still awaiting the arrival of equipment in this country. PANTHERS’ REMAINING FIXTURES Home – Sheffield (Jul 17), Edinburgh (Aug 9), Newcastle (Aug 21), Somerset (Aug 31), Scunthorpe (TBA). Away – Workington (Jul 25), Glasgow (Jul 26), Edinburgh (Aug 7), Ipswich (Aug 27), Somerset (Aug 28), Rye House (TBA).

Table-topping Panthers have half a team missing Simon Lambert is one of three regular Panthers' riders definitely in action at Scunthorpe. Photo: David Lowndes. Mark Plummer 08:40Friday 10 July 2015 Peterborough Panthers face the prospect of going into Premier League battle with more than half their own team missing tonight (July 10). The table-topping city racers travel to bottom side Scunthorpe with injury, illness and unavailability problems. ADVERTISING Returning captain Ulrich Ostergaard and the reserve pair of Simon Lambert and Rafal Konopka are likely to be the only Panthers’ regulars lining up at the Eddie Wright Raceway (7.30pm). Teen talent Robert Lambert is struggling to overcome the effects of a nasty crash in the club’s televised triumph at Berwick on Wednesday (July 8) while Michael Palm Toft has gone down with illness. Latest recruit Emil Grondal is missing due to commitments in the World Under 21 Championship tomorrow in Italy and Lewis Blackbird races in the Elite League for Wolverhampton. Panthers will operate rider replacement to cover the absence of Grondal and could also enlist the services of three guests. Czech ace Matej Kus of Redcar, who scored 14 points against Panthers last weekend, is definitely in for Blackbird. Ipswich man Rohan Tungate and Redcar racer Adam Roynon are on stand-by for Robert Lambert and Palm Toft respectively. Joint team boss Carl Johnson said: “It certainly won’t be ideal having riders missing, but it is something we overcame at Berwick on Wednesday and I’m confident we can do the same again. “Going top of the table has given everyone from riders to supporters a great buzz and we will be doing everything we can to stay there. “Our away record is terrific and Scunthorpe have already lost several times at home so we will be confident of getting a result.” Panthers’ lead at the Premier League summit was cut to a point as Somerset picked up a consolation point from a narrow defeat at Redcar last night. TEAMS SCUNTHORPE: Thomas Jorgensen (guest), Theor Pijper, Alex Davies, Carl Wilkinson, Ryan Douglas, Ben Wilson, Nike Lunna. PANTHERS: Ulrich Ostergaard, Rider replacement for Emil Grondal, Matej Kus (guest), Michael Palm Toft (or Adam Roynon, guest), Robert Lambert (or Rohan Tungate, guest), Rafal Konopka, Simon Lambert.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.... Many thanks To Steve Worrall and Adam Roynon.... you did us proud Good team performance from the Panthers! Speedway - Panthers hit the top but Lambert hits the deck Robert Lambert was hurt in a horror crash. Mark Plummer08:37Thursday 09 July 2015 Peterborough Panthers’ rise to the top of the Premier League was accompanied by another injury worry last night (July 8). The city racers overcame the absence of three regular riders to deliver a televised tour de force and triumph 49-41 at fellow play-off hopefuls Berwick. Super guest Steve Worrall reeled off four successive heat wins to lead Panthers to glory at Shielfield Park in front of the Sky TV cameras and was only denied a deserved maximum by a last place in the final race when the contest was already over. But the jump to the second-tier summit was marred by the loss of teenage star Robert Lambert to a suspected hip injury following a horror heat nine crash. The Great Britain international was catapulted from his bike after a tangle with top-scoring Berwick star Thomas Jorgensen entering the first bend. Only the smart reaction of reserve Rafal Konopa, who managed to lay his bike down and avoid the cartwheeling Lambert, prevented an even nastier spill. The 17 year-old sensation, who had already completed a hat-trick of heat wins, took no further part in a success sealed with two races to spare before busy reserve Simon Lambert’s late swoop for third spot in heat 14 clinched all four available league points and extended their unbeaten away record to five meetings. Joint team boss Carl Johnson said: “I could not be more proud of what the riders achieved last night and it feels great to be back on top of the table. “To win away when missing three of our own riders is a hell of an achievement and I can only thank the guests, Steve and Adam Roynon, for the part they played in securing a memorable win. “The atmosphere in the camp is fantastic and the boys are quite rightly oozing confidence at the moment. “It’s just a shame we lost Robert after a very nasty crash. Touch wood it doesn’t look like anything too serious at this stage, but we’ll know more after he has been looked at today.” Panthers ruthlessly put Berwick to the sword in the early stages as the hosts suffered a catalogue of mechanical problems. Six advantages and seven winners in the opening eight heats enabled the city side to power into a staggering 20-point advantage. Even the hosts’ tactical ride attempt from Jorgensen in heat five resulted in a Worrall-inspired 5-1 for Panthers. The loss of Robert Lambert gave Berwick hope of an unlikely revival and they slammed in back-to-back 5-1s to eat into their arrears, but the magnificent Worrall ensured they were not able to build up too much momentum. He completed a hat-trick of heat wins when combining with fellow guest Roynon for a 4-2 in the 11th contest before sealing victory when going tapes-to-flag in a shared heat 13. And packing the minor places in the penultimate contest proved enough for Panthers to seal maximum points. They are back in action tomorrow (July 10) when travelling to struggling Scunthorpe for a top-versus-bottom clash. Captain Ulrich Ostergaard and fellow Dane Michael Palm Toft both return, but Emil Grondal is again missing and Lewis Blackbird, who stood in as skipper at Berwick, joins him on the list of absentees. Czech charger Matej Kus, who piled up 14 points for regular club Redcar against Panthers last Sunday, has been called up to guest for Blackbird. SCORES BERWICK: Thomas Jorgensen 16+1, Kevin Doolan 10+3, Ryan Fisher (guest) 8+1, Fernando Garcia 5+1, Richard Hall 2, Alex Edberg 0, Rider replacement for Claus Vissing. READYPOWER PANTHERS: Steve Worrall (guest) 12, Simon Lambert 10+3, Lewis Blackbird 9+1, Robert Lambert 9 (withdrawn), Adam Roynon (guest) 6, Rafal Konopka 3+1, Rider replacement for Emil Grondal. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/speedway/speedway-panthers-hit-the-top-but-lambert-hits-the-deck-1-6840830 -

Panthers put proud record on the line in bandit country Adam Roynon is back in Peterborough Panthers' colours at Berwick. Photo: David Lowndes. Alan Swann alan.swann@jpress.co.uk 08:14Wednesday 08 July 2015 Peterborough Panthers supremo Ged Rathbone insists his team will not surrender their unbeaten Premier League away record without a fight tonight (July 8) The city racers make their second television appearance in the space of a fortnight when travelling to face a Berwick Bandits side yet to slip up at home. It means something is likely to give in front of the Sky Sports cameras on a night when victory would see Panthers return to the top of the table. They face a tough task though due to the absence of three riders. Captain Ulrich Ostergaard, red-hot Michael Palm Toft and new recruit Emil Grondal are all missing due to fixtures in their native Denmark. Newcastle man Steve Worrall and Redcar ace Adam Roynon, who had been set to race for the club on a regular basis this season until injured on the opening day of the campaign, step in with the rider replacement facility also in operation. Rathbone said: “It is an honour for the club to appear on Sky again. “Of course it is not ideal to have three riders missing, but we have drafted in a couple of very capable guests and I am confident we can give a very good account of ourselves. “We will be treating this meeting in exactly the same way as we treat all others. We are going there to win and continue our fine away record.” Berwick have won four of their five home league meetings to date. They were recently held to a draw by a Plymouth side who have also won at the Showground. They turn to a Devils man to step in at number one tonight with former Panthers ace Ryan Fisher deputising for the injured Ben Barker. Berwick are also missing one of their two Danish riders with Claus Vissing – another ex-Peterborough man - racing in his homeland. They use the rider replacement facility to cover his absence. TEAMS BERWICK: Ryan Fisher (guest), Fernando Garcia, Rider replacement for Claus Vissing, Thomas Jorgensen, Kevin Doolan, Alex Edberg, Richard Hall. PANTHERS: Steve Worrall (guest), Rider replacement for Emil Grondal, Lewis Blackbird, Adam Roynon (guest), Robert Lambert, Rafal Kopnopka, Simon Lambert. -
