Relegation And Promotion Play Offs
Glennylion replied to flagrag's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Lions website previews tonight's meeting and advises that there will be an important announcement about the future of the club. Interesting to see what that will be, especially in front of a sparse crowd. I do wonder whether a low crowd will give ammunition to the "Saturday night" track scenario and no to fixed race nights. -
2017 league campaign closes with rider replacement used in 21 of 28 league meetings and in each of the last 20 league meetings. Impressive

Probably but it's another IF. If Kyle had had 7 rides and not 6 If Etheridge had had 6 not 7 If we hadn't replaced Riss and Bates with Howe and Etheridge If we had not have gone rider replacement for last umpteen meetings If we didn't have Lynch If you leave yourself exposed week in week out, you may get away with it sometimes but you won't get away with it all the time. And If it had been close Freddie would have been in heat 15 It isn't necessarily bad luck -

Bad luck??? Really. If you spend a large part of the season with a 6 man team and rider replacement then you leave yourself vulnerable to a rider crashing and being withdrawn. This isn't the first time it's been a problem and to some extent they have been lucky. In addition if you replace Bates and Riss by Howe and Etheridge then you increase the vulnerability. Not that it would have affected the result but if Lynch then gives Etheridge 7 rides (2 from 7) and Newman (who was very good) 6 rides (11 from 6) then you can't play the bad luck card. High levels of incompetence I'm affraid. -

Agree. Nothing untoward and no different (less so) than when Garrity and Bjerre both got pushed wide on separate occasions. My instant feeling at the time was deliberate revenge but whether that was actually the case I don't know. -

To me it seems like basic "promotion". Needs the media machine in force but basic promotion is lacking. Bank holiday Monday, kids off school, busy shopping centre... is it an issue to put a stand in the centre aisle with signs and a bike and be seen by 15,000-20,000 locals over a 3 day weekend? This public resource is a great way to take the sport to a bigger and new audience. It's not cutting edge marketing but surely it's a vast improvement on relying solely on current patrons to attend and spread the word for you. -

Think the whole thing was a shambles. I think with the forecast they were waiting for any pending rain to make the decision for them. 4 miles from the track we had no rain after 9am. Went to the shopping centre at 11 am and no rain. At 1.40 riders were on centre green no looking like getting ready. With lots of track work why was the first announcement at 1.53? Then a false (not even remotely optimistic) 20-25 mins. Gets to 2.15 and with clearly another 30 mins minimum they 2.30 start. Why start preparing the track so late? The bald chap took shale to the outside of the home straight and made the outside 2 metres unrideable yet despite this being obvious and clear to everyone, it took a final track walk by the riders to tell him to sort it. Ridiculous. Managed to get my 15 year old lad to go for the first time in 5 years. Said at 2.45 he wasn't going again and was asking if we could go home. Nilson -top drawer Riss - very good. Like him Bjerre - very disappointing .... again. Sorry it's time Lasse King- good today. 4 suits him it seems. But hit and miss Garrity - problems there. His inability to make it through a meeting without a rolling start is wildly infuriating for me. I assume it must be for the riders as his rolling start cost Bates a superb first and second bend. Can't see him being anything other than a wildcard who will occasionally produce but more often won't. Bates -another good performer. Ayres - looks like he's improved a bit but not enough. 3 passengers one of which is largely expected as a number 7. Not good enough. Changes needed. Final point. I as a fan was only aware of the meeting due to various speedway social media links and looking at the website. A catchment area of a busy shopping centre on the doorstep carried not one reference to speedway generally or a bank holiday primetime meeting which was happening 500 metres away in a couple of hours. Shocking. -

See Lynch has thrown Bjerre under the bus. Always liked Bjerre but he isn't the answer. Garrity is a problem. -

Re Perks..coming off turn 2 he was not happy and made hand gestures accordingly, I'm assuming not happy with being blocked off by Ayres. He then flies down back straight and then he collides with Ayres into turn 3. Whether he was chasing hard and lost control or there was more to it only he knows. -

Looks heavy and riders still on centre green in civvies. Looking at a 2.15-2.20 start. First announcement made at 1.50. No chance of a pre 2.30 start. Track work still ongoing and plenty to do. -
100% agree with that. Strange how tapes infringements and 4-5 other re-runs and the meeting still finished half hour quicker than normal.

Leicester V Wolves 15th May
Glennylion replied to Beowulf's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Wolves were in a different class last night. If there had been another 15 heats with an exclusion rolled in, I don't think we'd have had a single 5-1. Utterly pitiful and shameful performance. -
Attendance last night was poor and a vast majority of those that were there wished they weren't.

Was in two minds to make the effort tonight, one of the reasons being the predictability of Garrity jumping the start based on his infuriating guest appearance last season. His first race and he's through the tapes. Then replaced by Ayres. Unreal. -

Slaughter fest. So many embarrassing performances. Angry with myself for wasting an evening and money on a boring predictable defeat. I expected a stuffing when Graverson was Bates's replacement and it came. The gulf in ability and the predictability made it boring. Cricket season upon us. That's my lot for Saturday's. Non Saturday attendance will depend on a settled side. -
Thought that the track alterations whilst still needing to settle opened up the bend and showed new lines. Two or three passes as a result. More to come I'm sure. Riss was very impressive as was Bates. Nilson and Lasse very good. Was looking forward to next week and would expect a decent result against Poole then realised the two major reasons for last night's good win aren't available. Very disappointing and emphasises the further issue of doubling up, not only the disruption to teams with availability and guests but also when a team can build momentum and pin expectation on performance, that is gone.
-
Be astonished if this isn't delayed. Massive queues outside and only 2 people serving.
-
Klindt and Lasse Bjerre confirmed as guests.
-
Thanks BTFC that would be useful. I also and wondering whether to attend and i only live a 4 miles away so any insight would be appreciated. Apparently the promotion were on the box last night saying the track would definitely be ok.

Bspa/Chapman clearly needed to retain control of lions and BP during Coventry situation until the the agreement was in place for Coventry to race at BP. Objective Coventry salvation now resolved, temporarily bspa interest in lions ceases. Our entrance fee went up to £18 last year, the justification bring that it was what Coventry and wolves were charging..... According to DH.

Not saying you're wrong flagrag but wouldn't that be in direct conflict to what DD said? When he said it was a no no and provided his logical business reasons, he really therefore had no grounds, basis or authority to make such a statement if the usage to non Leicester was out of his control. If Leicester promoting rights include use of the track for Leicester only then were there usage parameters set? If that agreement was for unlimited Leicester usage then the terms would need to be changed as clearly Coventry will also use it. What do Leicester and the promotion get in return? What happens about Leicester track improvements? Surely now 3 parties are part of that discussion? Is this why DD is very quiet? He has been undermined? Is it that his promoting model completely is shot to pieces? Is it a decision or one of a number of decisions from "above" that he doesn't agree with which may apply to the delay, the conflict on his previous intimations regarding riders, needing to deal with DH and/or putting Coventry first?
