Also looking for anyone with a meeting-marked programme from 15th August 82 Mildenhall v Glasgow. I require confirmation of the number of rides taken by Harry MacLean and Martin McKinna. -

An unashamed bounce back up the order for this one. I'm trying to get this file finished but I still need the information regarding the Scunthorpe match if anyone can oblige. Details in OP. -
Huge longshots but one never knows: 23rd August 1986 Middlesbrough v Mildenhall (KOC) & Glasgow (NL) Looking for the heat details from the Middlesbrough v Glasgow junior match. I have the riders, their scores and the result. Also looking for the Middlesbrough #8's for the two senior matches. 3rd October 1986 Edinburgh v Exeter (NL) Looking for the heat details from the Edinburgh v Glasgow junior match. Tigers had a home meeting the same night so reliant on Monarchs or Falcons fans with this one.

The scan I have is only filled in until heat 6 unfortunately. At least I can confirm the line-up and the points totals taken from the Speedway Star: 1. Mike Baynham (10) 2. Tony Rizzo (4) 3. Martin Chambers (9) 4. Andy Buck (did not arrive) 5. Willie Barr Jim Bentley (7) 6. Brian Clark (7) 7. David Holliday (5) 8. Nathan Murray (did not arrive) 9. Shaun Bickley (4) 10. Scott Lamb (15 - winner) 11. Steve Wicks (12 - third after run off) 12. Kelvin Jelaca (did not arrive) 13. Trevor Eadon (9) 14. Colin Smith James Hayhow (11) 15. Tony Richardson (4) 16. Paul Cooper (12 - second after run off) 17. Dave Larkin (reserve) (4) Ht 1: (rerun) Baynham, Larkin, Chambers, Rizzo (f, ns), 74.7 (Larkin replaced Buck in Y/B) Ht 2: (3 only) Clark, Bentley, Holliday, Larkin (exc, 2 mins), 74.2 Ht 3: Lamb, Wicks, Larkin, Bickley (ret), 70.5 Ht 4: Eadon, Cooper, Hayhow, Richardson, 71.8 Ht 5: (3 only) Eadon, Baynham, Bentley (f, exc), Bickley (ns), awarded Ht 6: (rerun) Lamb, Hayhow, Rizzo, Clark (exc, tapes), 70.8 A brief report in the 6th June Edinburgh v Newcastle programme confirms Lamb was unbeaten, Cooper beat Wickes for 2nd place, and Hayhow scored 11. It goes on to say "Jim Bentley was one of the meeting reserves, and as Glasgow's three competitors (Barr, Murray & Jelaca), plus one from Middlesbrough (Buck), all failed to show up, there were rides to be had, Jim had some bike trouble but still scored 7 including one win." The scan clearly has Bentley at #5 in place of Barr, make of that what you will. The report closes by confirming Bickley's 4 points, all claimed from his last two rides aboard Bentley's machine.

Thanks. It was 11-6 after heat three so entirely possible.

I've got a marked programme from this meeting. The main match details (v Glasgow) are ok but the Anglia Junior League match lacks detail and doesn't record the result of the final heat. Does anyone have the heat details from the match, or can at least confirm the final score?

I've done figures for doubling up replacements. I also picked up on a couple of errors so figures are very slightly revised from before. Total matches sampled 210. 113 uses of R/R of which 7 were for d/u. Of the 228 guests, 45 were for d/u.
-
I thought about tracking that at the start of the season but decided it would probably descend into chaos. Maybe worth a look at some point. I don't think it'll be as high as 90% though.
-
I've used the NL averages on the SGB site to help root out the unattached guests. Adjusting my figures to incorporate them (and the Redcar v Glasgow match that I'd missed) lowers the total to 48 of 210 matches where both teams started with their declared 1-7. I make it 37 extra u/a guests. Overall total now 227.
-
I too have a life but I also have an excel spreadsheet running for the season so... There have been 209 official matches so far this year. 55 have gone ahead with neither team using guests or r/r. Note that I'm not counting unattached riders as guests. For example Birmingham v Plymouth on Tuesday, both teams used an unattached rider but I count that match as 'no guests'. No R/R either, so it goes in the books as a 'full 1-7' match. I had naively thought these type of replacements were clubs promoting a junior but as the season has gone on it has become clear that there are a small group of unattached hired guns filling in anywhere they can and I should probably have included them from the start. Under the same criteria, the current overall guest figure is 188. R/R has been rolled out on 112 occasions.

Cheers. I'd managed to confirm a couple of Soton results from other files hence their omission. The next one is a bit weird. Belle Vue met Wimbledon in the London Cup over two legs, The BV & Dons files carry the results as BV 74 W 46 and W 53 BV 36 (although it is 53-39 on the header). The results page in the Wimbledon programme carries 33-57 and 53-36, so something going on with the first leg. Something to do with the reserves match being incorporated?

Thanks. Again, no Southampton file to work from so can you confirm these please: 12th May Southern Riders QR finished in a tie between Ove Fundin & Ron How 16th June Pride Of The South won by Brian Crutcher 23rd June v Swedish Touring Team 49-41 30th June v Polish Touring Team 55-35 7th July World Championship QR won by Brian Crutcher 11th August World Championship SF won by Ronnie Moore 22nd September v Continentals 66-42

Transfer Windows & One League

If you were to amalgamate the top two leagues and remove DU you'd need 32 riders to fill out the teams. 156 riders are currently servicing 203 team places across the three divisions. -
Groovy. Can you confirm these race poinrs totals for the Britannia Shield groups please: Belle Vue 302-236 Coventry 264-274 Leicester 268-272 Oxford 244-296 Norwich 380-340 Poole 327-393 Southampton 365-354 Swindon 327-392 Wimbledon 400-320 Can you also confirm two Britannia Shield rain offs not included in either Researcher file? 25th April Swindon v Poole and 1st May Poole v Swindon.

So effectively the Southern Rovers became Aldershot, the 38-34 result was 'transferred' and the 30th August match was a challenge?
-
Plenty to come on this thread but I'll start with the Southern Area League. First of all, my reference league table is here http://www.speedwaygb.co/history/leaguetables1959.php My problem lies with Aldershot and Eastbourne. The Shots have a F/A of 268-300 against the tables 271-297. Eagles have 297-276 against 294-279. All other teams are balanced. I have Aldershot v Eastbourne (39-32) on 8th August but do not have a return fixture except for a challenge at Eastbourne on 30th August which finished 41-31. The F/A figures above incorporate this result as if it was an SAL match but clearly that upsets the league table which seems to be looking for a result of 38-34. The only SAL match I can find which finished 38-34 was the 31st May Eastbourne v Southern Rovers match which should have been expunged when the Rovers withdrew from the league. I can't help thinking the two are linked in some way. Did the 38-34 score remain in situe meaning Aldershot didn't have to visit?

Here's a scan of the racecard https://www.dropbox.com/s/5tcl72ny5s94u7d/19841008_Newcastle_NESelectvHalifax_JCH.jpg?dl=0 Please note that heat 10 was wrongly transferred to the riders scorechart and Peter Clegg's points should read 1 2 3 2* = 8+1 and Ian Sutcliffe's 0 1* 2* 3 = 6+2. The person who sent me the scan doesn't recall what happened with the 2nd half races as they just seem to peter out. Possibly ran out of fit and able riders. There's also video footage of the match here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scO7opei7SA

Gallacher rode for Swindon in 1971. There's no Swindon file on Speedway Researcher but you can work through the full season file if you want to see how he got on http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/results-6.pdf Career info at the ever helpful http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/1066

Hopefully the last of my queries: I've no file for Aldershot, can you confirm the following: 4th June Whitsun Trophy won by Osborne (Bill?) 1st August Hampshire Trophy - abandoned at what heat and was a winner declared? 13th August Aldershot v Young Overseas - result required Stoke now: 14th May Cavalcade of Speed - any results from this event? 9th July Trent Trophy - Reg Fearman & Geoff Mudge tied on 14 points but no note of any run-off. Who won? 29th October Best Pairs - Les Jenkins & Tommy Roper tied with Ivor Brown & Pat Flanagan on 17 points but no note of any run-off. Again, who won? That just leaves confirmation of a rain off on 18th September at Rye House v Ipswich 'B' (challenge) and 12th September at Exeter, has any kind of 'result' been uncovered since the Researcher file was published?
-
Cheers. To further confuse the Sweden/Poland matter the match programmes I've seen bill the meetings as Stockholm (11/4 at Wimbledon, 15/4 at Leicester & 20/4 New Cross) and Poland (16/7 at Coventry, 20/7 at New Cross (in fixture list) & 23/7 at Swindon). And covering all the bases the Coventry researcher file bills it as both!
-
Good stuff, we're getting there. Can you confirm the following Southampton dates and results please: 5th April Supporters Trophy won by Ronnie Moore 19th April v Stockholm 47-43 24th May Southern Riders Championship QR won by Ronnie Moore 14th June Pride Of The South won by Barry Briggs 26th July v Poland 55-35 4th October sheet says Brad 8 v Holes 8 result 48-36 - I assume this was Dick Bradley's 8 v Johnny Hole's 8?
-
That puts that to bed, thanks. New Cross 66 Norwich 24 (challenge) - the results list I'm working from and a New Cross programme has this meeting down for 13th April. Both Researcher files are saying 11th April. Which date is correct? The following meetings aren't included in their respective Researcher files, can you confirm the dates and winners: 2nd May at Liverpool: Merseyside Trophy won by Hole (Johnny?). 24th June at Wigan: Promoters Trophy won by Anderson (Dave?). 15th September at Plymouth: Provincial League Riders Championship QR won by Eric Hockaday.

OK, thanks. The Cradley history website gives no mention of their participation in a Northern Cup so I thought they might be a red herring. What about the Western Cup? It looks incomplete. Here's what I have: 16/08 St. Austell v Bristol (36-36) 02/09 Bristol v St. Austell (38-34) 06/09 St. Austell v Bristol (rained off) 08/09 Plymouth v Bristol (36-36) 13/09 St. Austell v Bristol (40-31) 19/09 Exeter v Plymouth (38-34) 26/09 Exeter v Bristol (42-30) 03/10 Exeter v St. Austell (45-27) I also have a Plymouth v Exeter match on 22/09, tagged as a challenge, but it doesn't appear on either Researcher file so I don't know if it was a Western Cup affair or the result. Not sure about there being two St. Austell v Bristol matches, seems strange.
-
Cheers for that. The first of two of those pesky mini-competitions to sort out now. I'm assuming the Northern Cup was 2 semi-finals and a final? The fixtures I have are: 13th June Liverpool v Sheffield (36-58) 2nd July Stoke v Cradley (60-35) The Cradley file has this as a KOC tie but the Stoke file is showing Northern Cup - was this a 'double' meeting? 14th July Sheffield v Liverpool (64-32) 1st September Sheffield v Stoke (57-39) Final 1st leg 1st October Stoke v Sheffield (64-32) Final 2nd leg No outstanding Cradley v Stoke fixture on the list. Should the first one even be there? Help!
