Thanks. So who won the restaging, Young or McKinlay? Can you also confirm the 5th July Soton round was won by Neil Street?
-
Many thanks for the input as always. The lack of a Southampton file isn't helping so can someone explain what was going on with the World Championship semi-finals. I have an entry for a rain-off on the 9th August, restaged on 16th August with Jack Young winning. Wikipedia has the 16th as the British Final, won by Ken McKinlay. Was there a British 'final' as such, or were there just 4 semi-finals then the top 7 to Wembley? The Wiki page is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960_Individual_Speedway_World_Championship I believe the 2nd June date at Belle Vue should be 2nd July.

Can anyone clear these up: 12th May Coventry v Ipswich (Britannia Shield) - confirm result was declared void and match was not restaged. 28th June Southampton v Leicester (Nat Lge) saw an amendment to the result of heat 14. Did this take place on the night or after the event? 13th July Poole v Bradford (Prov Lege) was rained off and not restaged. Conflicting information over whether or not the points were awarded to Poole, so what's the real story? 26th August Liverpool v Sheffield (Prov Lge) - confirm match was rained off, not listed on either Researcher file. 6th September Southampton v Swindon (Nat Lge) - confirm match was rained off, not listed on Swindon Researcher file and there's no Southampton file to refer to. Last thing for now, to confirm these race points totals from the Britannia Shield South: New Cross 255-462; Norwich 369-349; Southampton 361-358; Swindon 382-336; Wimbledon 427-289.

There were more wee leagues going on. The East Anglian League and the Western League for certain, but not sure if a Southern Area League was attempted. I know the East Anglian league didn't complete but is there any way to check what matches were raced? The candidates so far are: 21/04 Rayleigh v Ipswich 'B' (41-37) 10/06 Norwich 'B' v Yarmouth (48-30) 04/07 Yarmouth v Rayleigh (44-34) 15/07 Norwich 'B' v Rayleigh (30-48) 18/07 Yarmouth v Ipswich 'B' (26-52) 01/08 Yarmouth v Norwich 'B' (39-37) 12/08 Norwich 'B' v Ipswich 'B' (41-36) Please feel free to confirm, add to or subtract from that list. I've got three potential Western League fixtures: 08/08 St. Austell v Exeter (42-36) 15/08 St. Austell v Plymouth (26-28) 22/08 St. Austell v Poole (38-40) But I'm not really sure if this league really existed. They used a shortened formula in the Plymouth match which is a bit strange. So has anyone any idea what was going on?

Highest Ever Winning Margin In A Single Match?
daveallan81 replied to Sotonian's topic in Years Gone By
I can't find anything to beat it but I have confirmed one to match it. 20th July 1953 Wimbledon beat Stoke 89-19 in a National Trophy fixture. It was Barry Briggs who blew the full score in heat 9, finishing behind Don Potter. 2nd September 1933 Belle Vue beat Clapton 98-28 in a National Trophy fixture but I've no idea if the scoring was 3-2-1-0. The closest in 'recent' times was at Hackney 12th July 1974 when England skelped Poland 88-19. -
I had forgotten all about your Internationale file. Good piece of work that Confirmation of the dates will do nicely thanks. The Researcher files all carry South Of England Cup against the fixtures and I've wrongly assumed they were part of a wee league. Thanks for clearing that up.

I require confirmation of these Southampton dates/meetings/results: 04/04/1961 v Monarkerna - Rained Off 23/05/1961 Pride Of The South - Arne Pander 20/06/1961 Internationale QR - Bjorn Kutsson Two Internationale QR finished tied with no run-off evident. Was an outright winner declared for 21/06 at New Cross (Ronnie Moore & Ove Fundin) and 22/06 at Oxford (Arne Pander & Peter Craven)? New Cross, Southampton and Wimbledon competed in a mini-league for the South of England Cup. I'm unable to identify the fixtures between New Cross and Wimbledon. Assuming the fixtures took place, potential dates are: 31/03 New Cross v Wimbledon billed as London Cup Leg 1 31/03 Wimbledon v New Cross billed as London Cup Leg 2 26/04 New Cross v Wimbledon (National League KOC QF) 22/05 Wimbledon v New Cross (National League) 31/05 New Cross v Wimbledon (National League)

Can someone confirm the date of the opening meeting at Bradford Greenfield? Speedway Researcher file says Monday 14th August but a programme scan on the Defunct Speedway website and the file I'm working on both say Tuesday 15th.

Thanks very much. If you're making changes to your files please also note the header result of the 8th September Leicester v Oxford match is wrong (showing 49-39 instead of 49-29). Regarding the final table, I have Leicester scoring 231 and Oxford conceding 246. Does your table also require adjusting for the 43-37 error? The results I have for Leicester are: H/A v Coventry 44-34 & 27-51 H/A v Oxford 49-29 & 35-43 H/A v Swindon 46-32 & 30-48 For Oxford: H/A v Coventry 42-36 & 30-48 H/A v Leicester 43-35 & 29-49 H/A v Swindon 47-31 & 31-47

I knew it wouldn't take long. Second query for the Central Challenge Shield competition between Coventry, Leicester, Oxford and Swindon. 31st August Oxford v Leicester - can someone confirm the result as a 43-35 home win? The files on Speedway Researcher are incorrect. I'm also looking for a final table if anyone has one. I'll post what I've got once the above query is sorted out.

Tidying up a results list for the season so it's likely there will be a few anomalies that will require checking. First one concerns the 1961 Provincial League KOC. Were Newcastle, who started the season late, included in the original draw to meet the winners of the Sheffield v Plymouth tie in the quarter finals? Or was the Sheffield v Plymouth tie a quarter final tie in itself? That match took place on 18th May which was during the week the first round ties were scheduled.

Looks like they're on top of the situation at SGBHQ. Some mob called the Turk Hack Team.

Is There A Need For Guest Riders?
daveallan81 replied to steve roberts's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
In 111 official matches this season there have been 80 guests and 51 uses of R/R. Unattached juniors are not included in the guest figure. Only 30 matches have gone ahead with both teams tracking their full 1-7. 41 riders are doubling-up with 5 of those trebling-up. These figures don't include changes made after the 12th May greensheets. Once recent switches are incorporated the sport will effectively be running 30 teams with 23 teams' worth of riders. -

From the Poole v Wolverhampton programme editorial, 3rd May 1978: "As we look forward this evening to the encounter with Wolverhampton, we pause to pay tribute to the memory of the late Kevin Holden, whose tragic accident occurred just twelve months ago. Kevin's wife, Tina, and his father, Mr. George Holder, have presented a cup to be awarded to the highest Poole point-scorer in the match, and this will be handed to the successful rider by Mr. Charles Foot, President of the BSPA and Poole's Company Secretary." Malcolm Simmons and Martin Yeates were joint top scorers with 9 apiece. There was no note in the programme as to whom the trophy was awarded.

I have found my original post buried in a thread entitled "Anyone Else Considering Walking Away From Speedway?" from September 2016. " These figures include all EL & PL matches from 2014, 2015 and this season up to Sunday past, the 18th. Total matches: 851 Teams using TR: 519 (60.98% of matches saw at least one TR) Resulting in a win: 19 (3.66%) A draw: 1 (0.19%) A loss: 499 (96.15%) I've used 1977 & 78 for the TS comparison. Note that TS rides taken by reserves are NOT included, only rides by a member of the 1-5 have been counted. It's not always possible to pinpoint a reserve taking a TS so best to exclude them for a bit more accuracy. Total matches: 1406 Teams using TS: 1124 (79.94% of matches saw at least one TS) Resulting in a win: 41 (3.65%) A draw: 25 (2.22%) A loss: 1058 (94.13%) " Complete original post here http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=82765&page=8&do=findComment&comment=2851526 Apologies for my inaccurate recollections earlier.

I ran figures for tactical substitutes in a thread ages ago. I didn't keep the worksheet and I can't be bothered raking around to find what I posted, but essentially under the old 13 heat formula use of one or more tactical substitutes resulted in more turnarounds than the current tactical ride set up. I think the TS success rate was around 10% compared to just over 4% for the single TR in 2016. There have been 22 TR rides taken so far in 2017, none have resulted in victories.
-
I advise caution when using this site. Some of the information has been regurgitated from inaccurate sources. League and cup results are particularly susceptible.
-
What are you on about? Scunthorpe took an 8-1 in heat 7 and lost by 3. If it had been a 5-1 they would have lost by 6. Either way they leave with a point. 17 TR rides taken this season, none have made any difference to the final result or the league points.
-
The 2016 Elite League saw the TR used 63 times. This resulted in 1 win and 1 draw. It was available but not used once. It wasn't available in 47 fixtures. The Premier League saw it used 89 times. This resulted in 5 wins. It was available but not used on 5 occasions. It wasn't available in 62 fixtures. It has been used 10 times so far this season (3 x Prem & 7 x Champ) with no success.

I just posted the link, the work is by Keith Corns I believe.
