If its Mondays and Thursdays - as is strongly suggested - then surely clubs will run on both nights over the course of a full season?! If they are away on a Monday then a home meeting on a Thursday is surely the best option rather than wait for a fortnight. Can't possibly see the BSPA agreeing to that 'cos Matt Ford proposed it about 5 years ago on the back of Chris Holder and Darcy Ward suggesting the same option!!!!
-
If Woryna starts as a 2nd string then that means finding another decent reserve on less than 4.65. I think he'll start as reserve and if he continues his 2017 form I agree he will go into the 1-5 on the first set of green sheets - subject to what the final points limit is!! All 2017 riders should be on their actual final 2017 averages achieved on the current race format. The only issue is for riders who didn't race in UK in 2017!! The BSPA can re-assess a rider's average if they have not ridden UK in more than 2 years. There were some riders who were brought into teams mid-season in 2017 who were given their actual averages from 2015/16. Not sure that Batch will feature as MF has stated clearly that he doesn't want any 'teenage-like whingers'!! If the points limit is 42 then an example line-up option could be: (although I don't think it will be!!) B.Kurtz 8.08; C.Holder 7.16; J.Holder 5.82; K.Newman 4.86; K.Woryna 4.65; J.Shanes 2.95; leaving 8.48 for a Number 1. (If the 2 Brits get a 2.5% reduction then that gives 8.68 for the remaining rider)

Seems like a bit of mis-communication somewhere along the line. The website mentioned on the shop signage www.poolespeedway.co is not valid. It should be www.poolepirates.co Somebody is in for it!!!

Congrats to Shanesie for winning the Young Apprentice rider award. -
Thanks GRW. Apart from Speedway and the very occasional grasstrack meeting I have not been to any other motorsport event - so it was an honest question. I'm not suggesting the sport 'excludes' families - far from it - but simply concentrates its promotion of the sport to a different demographic group ie 16-30 yrs. Emphasise the danger, the speed, the 'gladiatorial' aspects of the sport rather than the 'happy-clappy, family-friendly' approach. Aside from the cost to families, there are lots of other family activities that can be far more attractive than speedway - especially when you take in the whole package of run-down facilities, beer and burgers that are the usual fare at most - not all - tracks. Just a thought - as the family-friendly approach can't be said to have been a brilliant success over past seasons.

Mondays and Thursdays are the 2 preferred days for the Premiership, with Tuesdays (Sweden) and Wednesdays (Denmark) out of the question. Fridays and the weekends are also out due to Poland, GPs,& Practice, other Euro fixtures and Championship fixtures.
-
Quick question - how many other motor sports attract - or attempt to attract - a young family audience?! I'd have thought that the 16-30 age group should be the key target audience as they have some reasonable spending power and if hooked could be the regular fans of the next 10-20 years!!
-
Hope they keep it short and sweet - its Rosco's and Julie's Wedding Anniversary today!!!!!!
-
That already happens and is fine - until the Poles don't like what is being suggested. The Poles have been expanding their racedays through the week because of TV demands, hence their keenness to ensure all their riders favour all their fixtures!

True, but every customer should also make sure that the working conditions in which the self-employed businessman is being asked to do his job also meet acceptable standards - or the self-employed businessman can choose not to do the job!

Freesports started on channel 95 on Freeview on August 31st, Sports Channel Network (SCN) starts on channel 273 (Freeview) on 1st December 2017.

Not talking about sponsors for the league(s). I was referring to sponsors of clubs and riders by local or regionally based companies that have a national (or even international) product or service to promote. Indeed some may only have a local/regional product to sell but still have reasonably large marketing budgets in speedway terms.

Australian State Titles 2017
SteveLyric2 replied to Ned Kelly 41's topic in International World of Speedway
Its a bit of a devil trying to find the right date!! :-) -
So a 're-brand' for the Pirates to celebrate their 70th Anniversary year. New badge, new sponsors, new merchandise, new pop-up retail shop in the main shopping centre (from 25/11/17). Anniversary meeting on 23rd March involving Tony Rickardsson and Mark Loram. Gala Dinner planned for 14th March - more details to follow. I wonder what else will be new??!
-
I don't get why some believe that getting 'top' riders back will require x number of extra paying fans to cover the cost?! If some lapsed fans return to watching regularly due to the inclusion of a top rider or two in each meeting then all well and good - BUT its sponsorship that will/should pay the extra cost of having the 'top' riders. Many sponsors want their name/brand associated with the 'top' names.
-
If you believe Terry Russell in this week's SS, the most important thing to discuss is how to avoid the number of re-starts which delay the prompt running of meetings!!
-
Why doesn't someone on twitter ask the 'official KL twitter account' who NKI is an asset of then? He did during the 2-year Readypower Poole sponsorship deal. which is no longer in place.
-
Where's this 'NKI is a Poole asset' come from?? NB. Any relaxation of the Polish '3 league only' rule is dependent on the BSPA approving the fixed night proposal at their AGM. The Poles won't announce/confirm anything until the BSPA confirm their decision!! Even then I won't believe it til I see it in black and white!!

British Speedway 2018
SteveLyric2 replied to Dave Stummings's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Awright Dave?! -
Most 'indoor' sports properly priced in decent arenas/venues with civilised and comfortable facilities can generate very good crowds even with the minumum of 'normal' publicity!! Even better if there are a few 'characters' and a bit of 'rivalry' that can be hyped!! Is ice hockey seen as a 'family-friendly' sport with its regular punch-ups, sin bins etc? Wrestling is popular sports entertainment not because of its purist wrestling skills but because of its scripted fights, rivalries, fouls that are allowed and general rule-breaking!! :-)
-
As only a very occasional visitor to this thread, as a matter of passing interest, where has the report of Chris Harris signing come from?? Not seen anything official anywhere.
-
What is this about?? It has no context and makes little sense re Polish transfers 2018?! (or maybe its me....?!)
-
Matt Ford in the local paper today reckons that confirmation of a TV deal (together with what's happening in other European countries at the moment) will precede the arrival of several 'GP level' riders to British Speedway - some returning and others new to British league racing!! Whatever people think of MF, he knows full well how valuable a TV coverage deal is to get corporate sponsors for both clubs and riders. I can't imagine there is a current Premiership promoter who would be against it?! If a deal is forthcoming - aside from any direct financial incentives to clubs - then the basis to attract/maintain sponsorship for the clubs and ultimately the riders is very strong and positive.
