  1. Whats your point? Ward, Holder,Janowski and Pawlicki all rode for the 2013 Pirates, which is what this competition is all about!! Why would you want a 'true reflection of the strength of the rival leagues'?? We all know that generally the British EL is weaker than the rest, so to have a competition with more equal strength teams will surely make for better racing theoretically - albeit in this first year as only a 4xteam round with 4 riders per team - as long as all the riders meet the agreed criteria!!
  2. From little acorns (albeit somewhat misshapen),... large oak trees grow!!!
  3. For many non-Birmingham fans that are nevertheless trying to understand the detail of what has actually gone wrong at Perry Barr, the posturing of several 'I'm more important than you' individuals on here is not doing any good for anyone - least of all Brummies Speedway!!!? Factual clarification is what is needed!
  4. Am I correct in remembering that this couple's house was actually burnt down a couple of years ago??!
  5. It may well never work long term but can't agree that 'nobody wants it'!! Its a FIM meeting, with Armando Castagna and others firmly of the belief that this should be one of the ways forward. As has been said before, the major issue behind it not being a 4-round series this year (and probably next year too) is simply money - or the lack of it, especially in the UK!! Poole were offered the opportunity to host it this year but simply could not 'guarantee' the cost!! - and if Poole couldn't do it I doubt any other EL club could, even with some external financial support! However that is no reason for not at least trying it - and when/where better than a GP weekend in Poland?!
  6. Don't disagree with any of that, other than to add that their must also be some control of machinery/costs etc so that engine tuners cannot put so much financial pressure on the riders! Then the riders wouldn't need to demand higher (and higher and higher) pay deals.
  7. I think there needs to be an agreement between Promoters as to what they want league speedway to be? Apart from the basic '4 blokes on 4 bikes for 4 laps', the sport has changed in many ways over the years. Is it An 'Extreme' sport/entertainment, or a 'Family sport/entertainment'? Or maybe something else. Once decided they need to promote the heck out of their preferred choice. If its to be 'extreme' then make it extreme - create villains and heroes; set-up real rivalries; have some handbags and disagreements!! If its to be family oriented - as in the past - then offer families some real incentives to attend; provide regular family entertainment in addition to the 15 heats; run on a family-friendly day; make sure all riders are accessible, before and after meetings etc etc
  8. So all confirmed for 31st August at Zielona Gora as a 4-team, 4-rider competition. Poole to represent the BSPA with a team of Ward, Pawlicki, Janowski and 1 other(awaiting approval - likely to be Holder, subject to fitness!!)
  9. No surprise after that crash at Leicester last night!!!!
  10. Didn't go this year but watched it last night with a noisy bunch and again this morning in peace and quiet. The crowd looked larger than last year and certainly created the best noise/atmosphere for many a year!! It would seem BSI have taken note of some past criticisms as this year's GP experience seemed the best in recent times and there was some decent racing for a man-made track! Loved Crumpie and Scotty as summarisers - they did a good professional job!
  11. For those that may not have seen it today, there is a great double page spread on Tai and the British GP in the Sun newspaper. Aside from peoples' opinions about that particular paper - its nevertheless a great piece of publicity by Russell Lanning in the country's biggest selling national daily!!
  12. Cheers - and presumably the Dutch commentators don't have the same confusions/errors?!
  13. I've asked this before but does anyone know if the commentators are seeing exactly the same as the viewers are seeing in their studio (presumably in London)?? Is there any slight time delay - either for the commentators or the audience? Aside from identifying riders by their racing numbers, presumably they get the same on-screen graphics as we see, at the same time?! The Loktaev/Aspregen confusion was just crazy!!
  14. Well they are never the first to update their own news!!!!!!
  15. Good ideas - but what would you propose as the admission charges for fans?
  16. Fair points but would you be saying the same if the Stars were bottom of the EL rather than the top?? A winning team does tend to influence fans' perspectives somewhat!!! (ps I do agree with your views on this one incidentally).
  17. All good and valid criticisms pandorum, but what are the solutions? Going back to basics and starting again? Standardising machinery? Banning tuners? Still trying to retain a standard that TV want to broadcast?
  18. Much much better commentary and the best Swedish meeting televised this season so far!!
  19. I'm not sure the Sky commentators are available for this evening?? They'll be at home watching the half hour love fest of 'Woffy, Woffy, Woffy'!! I mean 'our World Champion'.
  20. The FIM nomination will probably go to someone like Bech or MJJ!!?
  21. How many weeks in were we with Jack?? He still hadn't learnt the difference between red and blue helmet colours last Tuesday!!! The only thing that newbies would have learned is that the commentary rarely had anything to do with what they were seeing on screen!! Newbies won't have seen/heard it as funny because they wouldn't know the difference!! They would just see how wrong the commentary had been when the captions came up on screen!!
