Poole v Birmingham 30/8/23 Championship
Steve Shovlar replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Ben Cook take a bow. 15 point maximum and untouchable tonight. Didn’t matter if he gated or not. Brother Zach excellent as well nntil a blip in heat 15 when in third sent him to the back. All pirates rode well and Richard Lawson said during the meeting he is suffering from the effects of the crash at Redcar still. Steve Worrall taking it easy so he rides in the British GP on Saturday. Both reserves did well. Rowe goes back to number 2 for the playoffs. Joe Thomson an upgrade of the injured Adam. Next up Edinburgh away next Wednesday which we must win if we are to finish top. -

The only wave will be the Pirate boys waving goodbye to the Brummies as they vanish in our wake. -

Well he rode the semi but how much was adrenaline is anyone’s guess. Fingers crossed it’s nothing bad. -
Just caught up with the meeting on delay. Good meeting. Some very good racing. Well done to Ben Cook who was leading in the first running of the final and was the best rider on show all meeting, but it’s never the same on a rerun and so that rule proved again. Wright could have been booted out the first running but the ref was weak. So Wright wins, well done to him. Always prefer a rider to win it who doesn’t ride on the event track every week. But I like both Wright and Danny King as people and racers. Well done to Ben though. Shows how well he has come on as a rider and a racer.

Pirates final home league meeting of the season before the playoffs. Hopefully Brum will turn up with a decent guest and give it a go. Three points guaranteed so it’s all down to Edinburgh away and Oxford at Glasgow to see who will finish top of the pile and take the pick of the teams in the top six. Current forecast is for a dry day with no rain about. Decent crowd expected. Can Birmingham pull off a big shock?

Let’s get back on topic. This was a cracking meeting regardless of the score and possibly the best meeting I have witnessed this year. Nearly every heat was a banger. Well done to both teams. -

I knew that but I am not out of shape. Lisa, I don’t calorie count at all. Calorie counting is a massive pain and it’s easy to avoid carbs once you know what to avoid. No pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, biscuits, confectionary, and you are 80% there. The biggest hurdle is called willpower. -

If you are not giving yourself every opportunity to do well in your chosen sport, you only have yourself to blame if you don’t do as well as you could. Why have that kebab after a meeting when you could have prepared a chicken salad a few hours earlier? I remember being at Subway in Poole and Darcy Ward came in. He ordered a green leaf salad. Had the knowledge to eat healthily. Want to stay healthy or lose weight? Stay off carbs and processed foods. Carbs especially. -

Yes thanks. Look after myself and am very fit for my age. Eat healthily, don’t drink much, stay away from anything bad like confectionary, ready meals and take away. Able to compete in decent quality paragliding competitions, (tomorrow I am representing the Wessex region in a cross country event) -

I watched the Plymouth stream recently and Barker looked fat faced and unhealthy. Not watching what he is eating. Bomber less so but looks like he has put weight in his face and seeing him at Poole last week it was difficult to tell the difference between Complin and Harris coming up to tapes. I am a fan of Bomber and always enjoy his efforts even though the light is now fading slightly on his career. Still has it but we were all commenting on his size in the grandstand. Happy to hear it’s not pies. -

I remember posting on the forum last year, after watching Complin at Poole. I said he looked pretty decent after years of not riding, but if he wanted to progress and get even better, he needed to get some of that bulk off. Well, that didn’t happen and he is overweight for a speedway rider or sportsman. He really should lose it on a Keto or low carb regime and the pounds will fall off. As a side, I have noticed both Ben Barker and Chris Harris are both heavier than at any other time in their racing careers . -
Bit childish Arnieg, thought you were a bit better than that to be honest. This year we have mini leagues, not a straight knockout, so it’s more important to finish top of the pile, unlike previous seasons. If Edinburgh fail to get a meeting on, which makes the difference between who finishes top, it could set a precedence that could be exploited in years to come. Imagine the uproar if Poole had Oxford in the last fixture of the season before the playoffs and the winner of the meeting ended top. But then it was rained off and Poole couldn’t / wouldn’t find a spare date to run it and announced we had finished top and get the pick. Fans would be up in arms and rightly so. Edinburgh are obligated to find a date before the cutoff and I am sure they will.

Abblit was excellent, as was Kemp. The meeting itself was fantastic racing. Possibly the best race track in the U.K. and was exploited in every heat. A really small crowd though which was a shame. Pirates now with best opportunity to finish top. -
With Scunthorpe slaughtering Glasgow tonight, they are more or less out of topping the table. A shootout between Poole and Oxford for top spot. Oxford need to win at Glasgow to top the table, or Pirates lose at Edinburgh. We will easily beat Brum next Wednesday. So it’s really down to Oxford at Glasgow.
