As it sounds like your a first timer with little knowledge you don't want to be spending loads on a bike. A perfectly usable bike can be had for less than a grand, even as low as £600 if you go for an older lay down with Jawa motor ( Jawas tend to be cheaper than GM).A converted upright to laydown are perfect for first timers and the cheapest to purchase.the older Jawas tend not to have Jawa on the casing .I still run conversion engines in my training school fleet and they are a lot older than all of my students and are still good engines. As your just going to be doing practice/ training schools, leathers are acceptable but not legal for competitive racing as they need a SCB standard label in them. Gearing...start off big!....to get the rear wheel spinning.you learn gearing as you ride as what's right for one person on one track isn't necessarily right for you. Steel shoes normally cone already colmomoyed.Anybody who can weld , with a stick of colmomoy can retreat it for you. Go to a practice / training session and ask questions before spending money! Rye House will possibly be the nearest to you. Hope this helps. Best motto.....ask before spending!

Your only issue will be covers to fit an Antig frame. Neither Jawa or Stuha designed covers will fit as Antig frame is wider across the front down arms. You can easily have this section widened if you buy a set of covers. If you are based up ' north', drop me a message , I have everything on your list!

Mdl Latest Averages
Veterancub replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Some interesting points there. But how do you explain the matches where teams only had three riders and one match where there was only two? Rider Replacement in a Junior match!...really? If some riders will only appear in their home matches, why are they getting selected? I know one rider who receives calls from FIVE different team managers in the MDL asking him to ride for them and this is a regular occurance. Does this not prove there are not enough riders willing to put the time and effort in at this level? I judge the success of a league on it completing all its proposed fixtures and producing riders good enough to move on to the next level. It's a shame that once riders reach a level, like the National league, that they then have to drop back into the MDL and NJL just to get regular rides. Surely this can't be right? -

Mdl Latest Averages
Veterancub replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Fantastic that you complete these facts and figures. Also suggests that there are too many teams with too few riders with several riders appearing for at least three or more teams and one particular rider topping the averages for a number of teams. I see we also have some riders appearing regularly in both junior leagues and the Nationsl league! Too many fixtures means these riders can't possibly can't possibly do all the matches, especially as they don't get paid. Throw in a few injuries and its no wonder the league doesn't get all its fixtures completed. Perhaps the future is the mix of 125cc bikes and 500,s as there are a lot more young lads, of a good standard, riding the smaller capacity bikes and a number of tracks now providing the opportunity for these lads to race. They even have them at Poole! These is bourne out by the entry lists in the amateur meetings where the smaller bikes way out number the 500,s. Food for thought? -
Can we just emphasise that this expulsion is absolutely nothing to do with the NJL . The NJL have welcomed Halifax , and Castleford, with open arms as we believe that the more opportunitys there are for yougsters the better speedway will be. Obviously the B.S.P.A. Think differently!

Redcar Speedway Practice Saturday 23rd May
Veterancub replied to Veterancub's topic in Training Tracks / Amateur
A decision will be made on Thursday evening if this practice is to take place as the track has been dug up and is having its final top coat and new shale laid on Thursday ( before the jokes start, it's by an ' expert' from an Elite league track allegedly). This is obviously weather dependant so I will update the site on Thursday evening. -
So Bellers101, you will be satisfied when Redcar Speedway closes? You aren't hitting Havvy in the pocket as he hasn't got any money in it! All you are doing by staying away is making sure it doesn't reopen when the lease runs out at the end of the season. There are new investors waiting in the wings and the current source of income has had enough, so be prepared for stock car racing taking over our venue.
