  1. Over the "course of the season" he has managed to up his average to just over 9 from a start point of just under 8.5, try to keep your comments in perspective? As for an out and out No1 it's just a terminology but if you want an example then look at Stoney, he was an out and out No1, the spearhead of every Comets team he was ever in!! I'm prepared to wait another 8 days or so for your next reply?
  2. Youv'e got me there my friend I'm 1970 onwards, remember the first two names well the other's not hugely familiar!! Quite right about Neil Collins, should have got that one?
  3. Coz you ride our track a hell of a lot better than you do Rye, I was surprised when you got nothing out of them!! As for tonight, almost inevitable delay's aside, a very good match I thought, disappointingly correct that our lack of match practice would cost us a point but fair play to Newky, they did ride very well and deserved to get something especially after Danny Phillips only lasted 100m and they had to rely on one reserve for the whole meeting, hope he's OK, painful neck injury for him that required a trip to the hospital? Good effort from the Comets tonight to get the win but it just shows the damage a couple of strategically placed "jokers" can do to a healthy lead, King looked very quick tonight, Rose tried hard and didn't get the pts his efforts deserved, Robson looked out of sorts til his fourth ride which produced one of the races of the night with Rene, nip and tuck all the way with Rene getting passed on the last corner to take the win, Kerr was getting better with every race and I was quite surprised he didn't get the Ht 15, Lindgren started well but faded a bit after that and Nielsen rode as well as I've ever seen him ride here nearly always in the mix, did well!! For the Comets, Josh was looking like his old self, quick and sharp and his run down of Danny King in Ht1 was worth the money on it's own, Kyle looked better as well, the rest seems to have done him no harm at all, much smoother tonight and all the better for it, two good wins, Rene seemed to be on a mission, trying to pass everything that moved, must have been short on cash and a bill's just landed, Mason was getting going til he blew an engine and the spare wasn't quite on the pace, Ricky had a pretty disappointing night and a snapped chain saw him do a dance with the dirt when in 2nd place which wont have done the bank balance any favour's either, Kasper Lykke is worryingly good round our place which doesn't bode well for us as he's back with Glasgow nxt week, great race to see off Kerr on his tac ride but some tardy starts later on cost him points he should have had, and as for Liam Carr, what a good effort he put in, very tidy win in the reserve race and held his own for most of the other's for a good return that could have been a pt or two better, well done young man!! All in all, a good win against a capable side, dont think it's as bad as all that in relation to the PL table as we have so many matches in hand, if we can get into a consistent run of matches, get the sharpness back, we could get into the mix quite quickly but it's all those away matches where we need to shine and get some pts if we're to really make everyone sit up and take notice?
  4. And of course the staple attire of the bad weather rider.... the all in one boiler suit!! Kneckerchief's, (type of scarf for all you young un's) dont see many of those flapping in the breeze thesedays!! Always remember the old Comets favourite Mal Mackay used to ride round with a football top on, never knew why tho?
  5. Quite agree with that Screm, and as yourself and Super Blue allude to, just manipulate the fixture list to give the main competition every possible chance of a completion?
  6. With Mills no away win!! come on Comets, you've got to do it for me now!!
  7. Just as an aside then, back in the seventies during the time of the old BL2, NL and NNL format, how did they ever manage to complete their season's when there was up to 24 teams in "one" league? Might have exagerrated that a smidgen but there definitely were a lot more teams about then than there are now!!
  8. The Comets could quite easily clamber into the play offs and challenge for the title without even completing our league programme by the cut off? Would be quite stupifying to a new supporter to see the potential Champions as a team who haven't even played an entire fixture list first, win the title then go back to playing everyone they haven't played yet!! Just in case, this is only hypothetical, even so, it could happen?
  9. Hoping very much that this light rain forecast for Saturday afternoon doesn't materialise, cannot afford to lose this meeting, in more ways than one, think we should be good enough for the three pts but our lack of match practice could tighten that up to two!! I'll hope for 49-41 from a full match?
  10. Workington. 1. Josh. Been the stand out this year, not an out and out No1 but the best we've got by a country mile!! 2. Mason. Decidedly average at best this year, not delivered the performances expected, shame, could easily do better. 3. Rene. Good on his day but think we've seen the best of him, heard a rumour he's not happy so could explain it. 4. Kyle. Too hit and miss, tries too hard and messes up too often, needs to settle down a bit, injury blighted lately. 5. Ricky. Biggest under achiever this season, hasn't delivered the scores expected, dont expect he'll be back. 6. Ashley. No improvement this year think he's reached his level, current injury is a worry for the future. 7. Simon. Best signing mid season we've done in years, definitely worth a run next year. Best scenario for me is top and tail with 5 other places up for grabs?
  11. We have ran before on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and in one extreme year think we did have a run on Wednesday, it would be down to Council/ RL club agreement but as the stadium is outside the town centre a lot would be down to whom/what would be available on any of those days to be able to run a meeting?
  12. Just had a quick squint at that external link taken from the Comets website, all it proves to me is that information that could have alleviated some of the concerns of supporters has been known about for ages yet as per normal it has to hit the fan before a statement over the situation is brought out? While I would never be a promoter the one thing I hope our current set up has done is learn the lessons of signing up too many double/triple up riders, changing fixture dates/ rain offs hasn't helped us at all this year and could very well see us winning matches, finishing high up the table yet have no chance of ever being Champions!!
  13. Thank's for clearing that up mate, knew Redcar were in there somewhere!! No they cant, but they can see the same weather forecast as we all did from several days before and at least try and come up with a plan B? Many of the problems concerning the Comets is this total lack of upfront information being divulged asap to the paying punters, if everyone with an interest in the sport was kept in the loop things wouldn't be half as bad for the promotion as it currently is, might not appease many but at least you would have some idea of what was going on?
  14. If the matches are not run by the cut off point then yes, I would assume Fromafar's quote would be correct, the top six as it stood at that time would contest the play off, anyone well short of league fixtures completed would still have to make every reasonable attempt to fulfill them but it would be irrelevant if you managed to get enough points as a result to finish in that top six as it would already have been decided? Was it Redcar who fell foul of that rule a season or two back, sure someone has fairly recently? As for not fulfilling the matches themselves well, that's another issue, heavy fine per match missed maybe? Like us you mean!!
  15. That's gossip for you Montie!! This is the problem tho, no information from anywhere as to "why" we were racing on Sunday in the first place and with the lousy forecast for said day, why we could not revert back to the better day of Saturday and get the fixture completed instead of hoping the rain stays away? It's all very well using advance forecasts to get a meeting called off to avoid travelling so why not apply the same logic and use it to get a meeting on!! Was clear to everyone that Saturday was a good day weather wise, and it was, but no swap, day wasted and now the potential of another rain off to contend with? Personally not aware of Klindt's registration til you piped up the info, thank's for that, better late than never so clearly that wasn't the issue!! Dont understand this at all, been a month now since we last saw any speedway up here yet we seem to be paying lip service to actually doing anything to get racing again, is it any wonder people are not bothering anymore almost feels like the season has finished already?
  16. Exactly, and known about for several days in advance , thats why I quoted the lack of flexibility, a guest for Scunny, move this forward 24hrs and the meeting is being run with me watching not sitting here doing my keyboard jockey impression, farcical!! We have to do better than this as it's doing no one any favours least of all Workington Speedway, season supposed to end Sept 12th, we have 14 matches to fit in in about 5wks then worry about play off dates?
  17. And in all that time they couldn't find a guest, he is their No1 is he not? Good night for speedway tonight just wasted again, this lack of flexibility is costing speedway in Workington big style it either comes to an end and the club becomes the "bigger" person or riders dictating when and where they will ride kills us off?
  18. Been rubbish this season, once the PL had agreed to playing second fiddle to the EL we were always going to be on the back foot, then adjusting the fixture list to accomodate doubling up riders brought the continuity into the debate as we had picked so many of them in this years team? Throw in bad weather/bad result here and there and it shouldn't really be that much of a surprise that there is so little interest!! I would be surprised tho if this match goes ahead anyway judging by the forecast but, you never know..... cant see it mind?
  19. Clearly written by someone who's never been to DP before? If you'd ever seen a "ploughed field" type track prepared at DP you would have known that the only people who ride well on it are the opposition, our track is best when it's smooth/slick and dry and better suited to our way of riding, why do you think we struggle so much away from home? As for the rest, you "did" have better guests who did the job expected of them while our rider's, judging by the updates site, didn't do their's to the same standard hence, we lost you didn't!! We were confident of a result at Sheff no doubt but we didn't ride well enough to do that so whether the score line flatters us is irrelevant, you only get 3pts whether you win by 12 or you win by 50? Am I a sore loser, no, not really, I,m very pragmatic actually, as I've said here and previous, the result was disappointing the performance just as but at the end of the day moaning about circumstance wont change anything for us so I'll get over it and move on!! Just imagine the field day you could have had then if my suggestion of doing a double header with our 2nd match against you from later this season had been taken up, you could have walloped us twice.... result!!!!
  20. Strange you mention that particular scoreline Bryn, I remember back, I think it was 1985 the year we folded up 1st time round, when Crayford beat the Comets by exactly that same score, got a few maulings that season? Dont think Rye have been that bad away from home this season, just seems to be Somerset where they tend to unravel!!
  21. If we had our riders riding the score would have been very much different?
  22. Any chance we can bring this match forward to our normal racenight, Remnant Hurricane Bertha will win this judging by that forecast? Just out of interest, why are we racing on Sunday exactly, cant see any problems with other clubs/meetings, just appears to be a waste of another lovely Saturday night?
  23. Well, I have to admit that that is a very poor result for the Comets? I've been unable to get on the updates site to have a look at the meeting scores/comments due to some tech issues with the site, but it would appear that I was correct in thinking that the performance of Sheffield's guest's would play a key part in the outcome, both would appear to have done well whereas our's, possibly Barrett aside, would appear to have not, lob in some poor returns from our regular guy's and the result doesn't look in any doubt!! Cant comment too much on the match until I've been able to see the scores and read some quotes from people who were there in order to get a general idea of how things went, safe to say tho it's not what I'd expected from tonight, the performance appears to have been a disappointing one and I'm getting the feeling that the wheels, while not yet off, are definitely short of a full quota of bolts!! Pretty low on confidence now I'd say, too many injuries, too few matches, no chance lately of getting a positive run going and judging by that forecast for Sunday up our way it ain't gonna start anytime soon??
