Dont think you've thought that through, whereas the idea of a one off all or nothing semi/final would be entertaining, how can it be financially viable for the clubs concerned? Play off's by their definition, and many people's opinion on here, are to generate income from end of season matches that mean something to the clubs, how would running those matches on a neutral ground be beneficial to any of them, apart, from the host club?

Definitely going to be a lot closer now we have lost Lambo, was looking for the four pts but a win of any sort would do for me now? Going to be interesting to see what sort of performance Ricky comes up with on his former track, he could be the key for us while Wolbert certainly is for Sheff, either of those two dont show up and it could be curtains for their team? Desperately need this to be on to get some match practice in, cant even remember who we last played it's been that long, while considering the poor record we've had between us for rain offs this season I cant understand why Sheff/Worky haven't chanced this as a double header, we still have to come back again later on for match 2 so why not run em both on Thurs and free up that night for Sheff just in case!! Anyway, it's just a thought, it's not gonna happen so I'll do this one at 44-46.

When the Comets match away at Somerset was arranged for the 12th Sept I'm sure it said that was the only date they had left before the regular season in the PL was supposed to end so I've always gone off that date? According to our opening fixture list, the first weekend of play off matches was to start on the 13th Sept but since then we have rearranged a rain off for the 13th v Sheffield and still have the other tie with them to sort out, that is being touted now as a possible dble header with any play off ties for us being put back til the 20th, dont know how that affects anyone else as most have played far more matches than we have and aren't struggling to complete quite as much as we are? With all the postponements I would chance that the 20th would be the last opportunity allowed for qualification tho I wouldn't wipe out the 12th Sept being maintained by the SCB to be the cut off to qualify no matter how many matches your short and I'm sure that has happened before?

Having only ridden 9 PL matches so far, I will be pleasantly surprised if the Comets can make the top six? About 6/7wks left of the regular league season and 15 matches to put in, and with one of those already outside of the cut off date and the distinct possibility of at least one other to add to that, and as our nxt fixture is not until Thursday, we really are behind the eight ball, it's gonna be a real struggle for us?

Considering that we have now lost both matches v Sheffield at DP for one reason or another I would suggest that when Sheff come back for the restaging of match 1 on Sept 13th it will become a double header with match 2? We are so far behind where we should be in the PL I cant see there being too much option, it would also make more sense!!

No, you've just misunderstood the line I was taking, the two incidents at DP in recent weeks have been medical related but nothing more, I;m certainly not insinuating that this has been a regular problem, it is'nt, my apologies if my post didn't make that clear!!

Quite correct, the Workington promotion run the meeting "not" the CMO's kit bag!! Again, this is just down to a miscommunication between the usual medical staff as to what was required by the CMO on the day, once established that an item of major importance is missing then all the guy can do at that point is to fess up and tell the promotion what has happened and then try to rectify the problem which, clearly, failed on this occasion? It was a miserable way to end a meeting and what with the previous ambulance incident v E,boro still lurking about makes two medical mishaps, just wondering now when the next one will take place to complete our "three"!! A disappointingly long trip for the few Sheffield fans who came up and never saw a wheel turned but hey, do what I do, just smile and say, that was a long way to go for a plate of chips, been there, seen it, done it, it never gets any better but at least you got your dosh back on the day, hope you all got home safe?

Quite, probably along the lines of 4/500 today not a bad day for racing, the rain certainly wouldn't have affected the track just done a nice job of keeping the dust down but as you say, there will be a few more blank places in a fortnight's time, another Sunday meeting too which for some reason doesn't seem to be the best of day's somehow even tho it is still the weekend? maybe we have a lot of pilgrims in the support!!

Would have been handy to know exactly "what" this crucial piece of equipment was and it's trackside function? Feel sorry for the promotion as it always looks like they are having to make excuses for different failings caused by other constituent parts of the meeting? Sooner or later I am expecting to see a response that Workington Speedway has now paid for a fully equipped ambulance for it's own personal use and a load of spare medical equipment just in case the NHS/St John Ambulance happen to run out of, or, dont have access to it? Because as I said earlier, what time do the medical staff turn up for the meeting? If the guy only turns up 1/2hr before and then goes about his check's, discovers he doesn't have what he should have, he inform's the promotion at that point then you only will have a short time to rectify the problem, it is obviously an important if, unknown to the public, piece of kit that clearly is not something readily available at short notice!!

Workington Speedway is going through a very sticky patch at the moment and thing's like this are "just not" what the doctor ordered? I would have thought that, if Doc Butler wouldn't be in attendance this week then surely any other medico would have been advised as to what equipment he would need in order to officiate at the meeting? Who's responsibility that is is open to debate but this has all the hallmark's of a lack of communication between medical staff and medical staff and the club, I dont know how soon the medics need to be at the ground before the meeting starts but surely they must have a check list as to what is needed "prior" to the match starting so any shortfall's in equipment can be rectified!! Another wasted weekend and another fixture to add to the list, at this rate we will not even finish the season never mind qualify for any play off's, no match again nxt weekend so Scunny is next up on Aug 10th, after debacle's like this a fortnight between matches is going to do nothing whatsoever for the club's support?

Weather still OK at this time but forecast for rain sometime during the meeting, hope it doesn't happen but if it does I'd like us to be 7pts up and 10 races ridden!!

Depend's on the quality of the Sheffield guests for Sunday but I would like to think Comets will be too strong and I'll stick with a win of 12pts, we need to get a march on in the PL as we really are slipping behind the calendar for qualification so 3pts is a must from this!!

Correction, the team put together at the start of the season had the look of being one of the best teams in the PL on paper so we had every right to feel confident that things would actually happen, unfortunately we dont race on paper, Josh certainly has improved and Rene has started to hit his best form but this is where the problems have arisen? The improvers, Morris/Howarth haven't, Mills looked good, new machinery/lease of life but fell apart, Campton, enthusiastic at the start but hasn't delivered much since and the same could definitely be said of Ricky Wells, rode his socks off in the shop window stakes last season but hardly ever manages a double figure score for us? The injuries since have proved the lack of strength in depth the team actually has, Lambo has been a very useful acquisition but guest reserves haven't always been the best so using r/r for Howarth has hit us hard again, we were not a very average 1-7 as you put it, we are simply developing into one thru one thing and another, just a fact of speedway life!! The good thing for us tho is that at least our management try and bring a quality team to DP season after season which they do more often than not, maybe one year it will do what it said on the tin, it's going to happen, I can feel it, we wont always get the bad karma!!

Maybe not but I'm thinking more of the backlog that's just got bigger, we cant afford to keep wasting time!!

Wow, you can definitely tell when the meeting you've watched was poor when the biggest talking point on the thread is the VFM you got for the programme!!

After a cloudy start it's wall to wall sunshine up here tomorrow afternoon thru the evening, with a 7.30pm start, well after the Rugby's done, would it not have been possible to offer Somerset the Sunday as an alternative, for sure they could say "no thank's" but it could have saved the weekend and gotten rid of another fixture?

While wearing my conspiracy theory hat I'd like to think that our performances this season are deliberately designed with the end of season play offs in mind? Do just enough to get through then, short season, 6 matches all out assault, home and away showing people what we can "really" do and then, walk off with the PL/Play off title!!!! That's what keeps me going!!

Another one to add to the list, could be a big issue for us this in trying to qualify for the top six, cut off is the 12th Sept if I remember rightly so will have to hope we can get enough pts on the board to get through before then, very few spare Saturday's for us, if any, too choose from now?

So did I Topaz so your not alone, well remember sitting in the grandstand looking out onto a ground populated by about an 100 people, getting excited when we managed to get over 30pts at "home", Wayne Jackson and six reserves, remember it like it was yesterday!! You certainly are, but your still missing the point, we were in a position to easily take all four and we should have done, if the situation had been 15pts down and fought back to lose by two and winning an unlikely point then yes, absolutely, a well earned point indeed, but that's not what happened and that's why people such as myself have a very different opinion to your's?

Just got in from work, didn't bother with the updates site result spoke volumes? Absolutely dreadful performance from the Comets probably one of the worst displays up there in many years, suppose Josh was due a bad one but no real excuses for the other's, Rene apart, looks like he was the only one to try and take the fight to the Monarchs but you cant do that on your own? Something sadly has gone amiss with us especially against the top sides, we just dont seem able to compete with them on their tracks as much as they do on our's, definitely haven't seen the improvement across the board that we were hoping for at the start of the season and that does look very ominous, too many of our guys have just stagnated, mainly sticking to their average or a fraction either way, not good enough really to get us to where we wanted to be? Certainly dont expect us to lose that badly again this season but this has proved my point about the LC Semi the other day, we didn't want the final and this result would have, if repeated, killed that final stone dead after one leg? We have lost our way a bit lately, confidence probably not very high at the moment and we have a long way still to go, a couple of good results somewhere will perk us up again but it's not how we envisaged this year panning out, got to knuckle down and get on with it now, try and get the mojo back and make a strong push for the final run in, we are better than this, we have to be otherwise we've nothing to play for?

Hope we will give this a good go tonight, could be even tougher if Lambo doesnt ride so, any news on a standby just in case? Not expecting anything from this as Edinburgh have the Indian sign on us up there, I'll be happy if we keep it to the early fifties!!
