  1. A few Reading fans go to Swindon especially when Zagar rode. With no love lost between Oxford-Swindon couldn't imagine any Ox fans cheering for Swindon! When New Cross closed in 63 we went to Ackney West Am and Wimbledon, all more or less the same distance from Peckham, but followed the Dons more as they were the only club south of the river. If Swindon closed would only go to Cardiff. Nearest tracks would be Cov and Poole, about 70 miles away!
  2. Mad Aussie Shane Parker with his famous naked spins was a great character, and 2 other Robins the Yanks Gresham and McConnell were crowd pleasers.
  3. Fundin, Briggo, both Crumpies, Crashby, Mad Wellie, Wardy, Rickardsson, Clive Hitch, Matty Zagar, Nicky P., Kilby, Autrey, Knutsson, Nigel Boocock, Simmo, Broady, Woffy. Jimmy Squibb, Nygren, Loram, Bomber, Peter the Killer, Steady etc.,etc., that's 24!
  4. This talented prat goes from one disaster to another. The best rider I've seen at The Abbey for years. Will be as good as Barry Briggs one day if he ever learns to behave properly.
  5. Edinburgh Berwick Somerset Scunthorpe Ipswich Peterboro or hopefully Worky if they can complete their fixtures
  6. may go but don't worry will not be asking any questions about pay!!!
  7. Will go for an Aussie win narrowly over Poles, then GB, then Danes. Good to see 5 members of the 2012 Champions Swindon Robins, Andersen, Batch, Killer, Doyley, Steady, plus ex-Robin Korneliussen in action. Well done to Swindonian Rosco for his achievement. GO GB!!!
  8. Why did he sneak off, was the food bad or something...did he pay for it beforehand? We know crowds are down and the teams are weakened but a Geoffrey Boycott aint gonna do no good to nobody? Still my fav sport to watch over football, rugby, orse/doggie racing, cricket, ice hockey, and recently we've been sat on the chairs on the grassy knolls at Blunsdon Abbey in great weather watching some superb close meetings, the crowds haven't been too bad either. Cant complain at the good VFM at the moment. Hopefully we will move into the new stadium next autumn(possibly in the PL)but plenty to look forward to.
  9. Also walked back to Cardiff City FC in the west of the city...half hour walk, next year will probably be parking in central car-park for 9 quid, or off side street between the two stadiums for free. Or there's always the train.
  10. Fantastic management from the Swindon truck driver, and brilliant team performance. Get Steady(and Doyley) back at The Abbey next season. Well done to Batch, and especially Greg and the Yanks. Big shock the favs Aussie coming third.
  11. The official attendance at Cardiff was 41800... nearly 6000 up on the last one I attended in 2012, so good news.
  12. If the new Swindon stadium opening(we hope)next year has 40000 seats and roof have it there as its only a 20-minute walk from my house!
  13. 7-10 years ago the Adams-led Swindon were probably averaging around 1800-2000, now probably down to around 1400...1000 on a bad night and over 2000 on a good night. The top Swedish crowds are far higher than the EL, as the Eastie promoter was saying try to promote speedway in front of 700 at Eastbourne compared to over 3000 in Sweden and 15000 in Poland.
  14. Crowds are down at Swindon as there is so much to do there is no time for speedway. Also the 99% Afro/Asian population only likes cricket and football, Christ knows how the ice hockey club flourishes. Also the massive surrounding farming population of Wilts /Berks/ Glos/ Oxon cannot afford fuel for their tractors to get to the stadium. It is almost impossible to climb in now because of the securityAlso some fans are scared to use the notorious back-straight bogs. These are what I would class as the main factors for lower crowds Poole were probably paying him..the financial problems at Swindon last year and non-trying by riders is well-known unfortunately
  15. We were going to come off at junction 32 Cardiff East, then used the directed junction 33 Cardiff West as short of time due to traffic congestion on the M4. We have used junc.33 the previous 5 times we have gone by car, the first time was from the old Cardiff ground at Ninian Park, then County Hall. Was no problem then. You don't expect to pay 10 quid for park n' WALK! Need to get that organised better. First GP was best one for me, awesome atmosphere among the 40000 speed fans, and enjoy chatting to fans from different clubs. Sat next to two old guys from Bristol, wearing jackets from the 70s literally covered in hundreds of metal and cloth club badges. Said they haven't been washed since 1978! Not as many Polish fans since Gollob retired. It's a different world from league speedway so anyone attending the GP is unlikely to be attracted to a cold night at Blunsdon standing on a grass bank in an outdated stadium with poor views.( I've never seen the 3 Mohican wig wearing Robins fans I saw yesterdayat Swindon's meetings!) Although hopefully the Robins will be moving into their new stadium in late 2015(unlikely to have retractable roof though!).
  16. Great atmosphere, great view, and some good racing and slick presentation as usual...BUT the ten quid Park n'Ride system was crap...waiting too long for buses from Cardiff City F.C. then on the return about quarter-of-a-mile queue for buses so we decided to do the 30-minute walk back to the car park. Next time will not use park n' ride, was better when at County Hall, better off parking in side street nearer stadium or getting taxi from football stadium, or coach or train. Well done to old Greg, unlucky Woffy and Wardy. Back to boring old Blunsdon this week! What was attendance?. Was behind Eddie Kennett in ticket queue at stadium, he was riding there 6 years ago!
  17. no printer mate..and I like the Star GP review. Good Sun red-top spread on Woffy, hope he's ok after bike fall.
  18. Don't always buy one but they're about a tenner with free radio, I use the Speedy Star racecard. Looking forward to my 7th.Cardiff GP and either a Woffy or Batch win. Will be getting the train from Swindon instead of driving this time. Fanzone just outside station this year. Hopefully 40000+ crowd, and great atmosphere. Rain forecast..
  19. When you're 58 mate its a bloody struggle to do anything..too old to climb over anything now...ooh young man at your age
  20. Speedway should take a look at the family fun days at horse racing venues, all under 18s free admission and things to do for the kids. Problem is most clubs run on a weekday evening so kids have school next day. Loads of kids at Blunsdon when they had the free Easter egg and air-horns giveaways, but some were sodding nuisances running around!. The kids these days can't interact with the riders as you could years ago when you could wander round the pits getting autographs from well known riders. The riders used to come into the crowd at Swindon after the meeting to sign autographs a couple of years ago but that seems to have stopped now. Rosco mentioned about getting out into local schools to promote the sport but it hasn't happened. The local club is not such a part of the community as STFC is. When I was a nipper half the kids from the estate jumped on the special buses to go up to Blunsdon on a Saturday night, when you could climb in for free! Funtimes!
  21. Enjoy the live band in the street entertainment, don't bother with the stadium offering..normally naff!
