2nd Bender, Birmingham lost 38-45. Dont have the Swedish scorers, so I don't know whether this is coming up trumps, but for the Brummies: Graham Warren 11, Eric Boothroyd 10, Alan Hunt 8, Ron Mountford 5, Jim Tolley 2, Cyril Page 1, Phil "Tiger" Hart 1.

iris123, I have some data on the USA's matches and scorers, at Shelbourne and in the UK that season. It's not quite complete. It's a Works file, available as either a .wks or .xlr file - if you can read either of those, I could e-mail it to you - let me know.
-
Romford? Looks like he was around somewhat earlier than that, iris123. An article on a car racing site at http://classicfords.net/modules.php?name=N...=article&sid=70 begins "When Barry Lee packed up Speedway riding for Hackney Wick in '63..." Peter Morrish's "British Speedway Leagues 1946-64" dosen't list him as riding any official matches for Hackney that year - or for Wimbledon.
-
Strangely, there isn't. But he was DEFINITELY Arthur Woods

Why does that prospect make me think of the Olympic Jamaican bobsleigh team? -

Thanks for that - can only be the sponsorship that makes the GP's worth while to the riders, it's certainly not the prize money. I've also posted these links to speedway list on yahoogroups. -

Interested to see that Bruce Cribb, now in his 60th year, gave a demonstration ride on his ice racing bike at his home town track at Palmerston North on Friday. The greatest non-European ice racer? -

Anth, it's 12-15 July at SKAERBAEK in Denmark - maybe one of our Danish listees can help further? All FIM dates are on their website at http://www.fim.ch/en/default.asp?item=44# then go to 2006 Calendars -
I believe it did - Todd apparently won a new Jawa for coming overall second today.

Louis Lawson's real name was Arthur Woods ... dosen't have quite the same ring about it, somehow ... I seem to remember that there was an article about him in VSM a few years ago - I wish someone would produce a good index for that magazine, so that I can find these articles!

World Cup To Be Staged At Reading

Bet that came as a surprise to the Reading promoter -
Great job by Ron, Shona, and Anth - many thanks to you all. Who would have thought a few years ago that we'd be getting live updates from the other side of the world into our homes? Next round is on Sunday at Mildura - hey, I'm sure I heard some bloke on Sky say once or twice that one of the riders was born there? Wonder what the odds are on Leigh going through all 4 rounds unbeaten?

Tarabanko, Go to http://www.fim.ch/en/ Then to The FIM Magazine Then to the bottom item, Spectators. It opens as a .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file. Interesting, as it has figures for road racing, motocross, etc. as well (and ice racing) -

Hector "Skid" Skinner was a big star of the dirt-track at White City Manchester, Sheffield, and indeed most of the northern tracks in the late 1920's and early 1930's. He also toured Europe with his wall of death show (including his wife), called "Skid Skinner's Death Circus". In 1929, he ran the Rotherham speedway for a while. Also a motorcycle stunt rider. Arrested in France for shooting at bottles. Had a pet monkey. Died 1944 in a shooting accident at the age of 39. Don't make 'em like that anymore!

I tend to agree, Backtrack and VSM (not forgetting Speedway Researcher!) seem to have the speedway history scene well-covered already. However, we shall see!
