  1. Good post Arthur. My main issue with the application being accepted is how it has been blindly accepted by many because it is a Football bid. This can be summed up by reading through the objections and support for the stadium in the document which is comical. What makes it even more laughable is the fact in the last 5-10 years a number of proposals were made to extend the hours of the car-boot sale that is held in car park which all were rejected due to an unjustifiable increase in traffic in an already traffic intense area. So how can a Football stadium with 600+ houses and everything else that's going to be developed not have an unjustifiable increase on traffic?! Or is it justifiable because it is a football stadium?
  2. Mr Snackette I genuinely cannot work out whether you are ignorant or just trolling. For someone who is so adamant the right decision has been made you have very little knowledge of the stadium and the surrounding area. As Arthur Cross pointed out the stadium is also situated in the borough of Wandsworth therefore their objections are very relevant.
  3. If you have taken any time to read the planning application you would soon realise that the area cannot sustain a development of that size. Wandsworth Borough council planning officers strongly objected the AFC Wimbledon plan and one officer during the meeting on Thursday night could not understand how the application had made it through to council with no real answers to the problems the environmental officers made regarding the stadium is in a flood plane, to me that does not suggest that the 'right decision' has been made. Why would a 'sports person or people' be happy that we are getting another nondescript football stadium at the expense of sports that are part of our cultural heritage? The stadium will be redeveloped into another stadium whether is now going to be a new football stadium or a greyhound stadium remains to be seen as there will be appeals as the residents do not want AFC Wimbledon redeveloping the stadium. In my previous post I was actually referring to your statements made about the 'perceived' lack of effort from Wimbledon Speedway fans. Clearly you have no idea about the amount of effort that firstly went into negotiating with the GRA at the time that they planned to increase the rent and the extensive search for a suitable venue in South London and Surrey that could home a speedway team.
  4. I always find it amazing how some people talk with so much conviction on subjects that they know next to nothing about. However, it is a very sad day for Greyhound, Speedway and Stock cars that are potentially seeing the destruction of their home since 1928.
  5. Not too sure that would happen when they have Josh Auty in the team already.
  6. Doyle confirms that he will not be riding for the club in 2016 on his facebook page.
  7. Robert72 you need a hobby, you started the exact same thread last year and the majority thought you were talking rubbish. Nothing has changed.
  8. You'd think its the end of the world the way some of the people have made out. At the end of the day for some people they wont be able to afford to watch the GPs and its a shame but atleast the GP has got a good deal (one would assume) and we are able to watch GPs for the next three years.
  9. Why do some people feel the need to bring Harris into the equation?! He qualified and earned his place. End of.
  10. How times have changed from Ronnie Greene encouraging Ron Howe to throw a punch at an opposition rider to entertain the crowd at Wimbledon.
  11. Are the pits going to be inside the stadium on Saturday? A reason why the track is smaller than it could be. Having been at Warsaw it was quite nice being able to see what was going on until they went in the infamous locked room.
  12. The only problem that I found when I visited Stockholm and Copenhagen for that matter, compared to the Polish GP's I have been too is how expensive the cities are. Apart from that the Friends Arena is an excellent venue and a credit to the series.
  13. Tai had already overtaken Emil in the GPs before his injury.
  14. Feel for Leicester and Walasek he has had awful luck with injuries this year.
  15. There is far too much emotion from riders and fans alike. Pedersen is a hard rider who has a habit of crossing the line between hard and unfair but Greg went over the top.
  16. Can see Latvia going to the race off at the expense of USA. Will be an interesting battle for 3rd place. Australia to the final and GB and Latvia to the race off.
  17. Please get over your personal vendetta with Tai, its starting to get boring now.
  18. Lambert has ridden very well in the past couple of week and was on course for a second place before he fell in his first heat. Looked on the pace all night, think he fatigued towards the end of the meeting unsurprisingly due to taking 7 rides and top scoring for Peterborough in the afternoon.
  19. Apart from that heat where he went wide and left the door wide open for Ward to come through, he rode very well. Always said Bomber rides so much better when he's riding for GB rather than himself in the GPs.
  20. I think the GP's are all about balance. BSI have taken the GP's in the most part to attractive new venues where the racing is just part of the weekend. Its all well and good saying lets scrap the temporary tracks in the big cities to move to the established venues but as we saw last year with Bydgoszcz that was a disaster and in reality who go to those meetings apart from the die hard fans? A long weekend in remote towns aren't going to tempt the 'casual' fans so to speak but if we forget about the failings of Warsaw, which as we saw had more to do with the old guard moaning about the tapes rather than the track, it attracted 50k fans to a speedway meeting. The glory days are over however it was somewhat nice to see a Speedway meeting in a national stadium sell out and I would rather have that and compromise on the racing than watch a GP in a glorified field.
  21. Promotion and relegation would never work in British Speedway and most tracks would be reluctant to race in the EL. I for one like the GP series but unfortunately BSI have had serious problems in the last two GP's. I don't think the answer is returning to a one off final and its very unlikely that any rider would agree with it due to the exposure the GP series gives them and their sponsors. Even if the GPs were scrapped where would the final be run? There is no speedway stadium in the world with sufficient capacity. If the series were to be taken over by OneSport would they really be able to do anything differently? I do not think so, In fact I think that they would do a worse job than BSI.
