Could Woffy Be Making An El Return?
ColinMills replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm no sheep, I have 2 views on woffy, on one hand I believe hes a absolute fantastic rider and a deserved world champ, I even think (injury free) he could break rico/mauger record. on the other hand, I do believe hes cocky and arrogant, in which case, my choice, I wont purchase another item from his merchandise, due to his brit final decision. when he says on social media no-one wil do more than me in the next 10 yrs.....no, not my cuppa tea thanks -

52K Followers on twitter for woffy, 4.3 million Valentino Rossi...... -
last night sent a carefully worded msg to both buster and jon cook.....no reply..as yet!

the 13 ht formula with 16 teams is one I most definitely preferred. better or worse riders, not that bigger deal. to see riders once a year probably gave you an incentive to actually go every week. miss a rider today, it don't matter, he"l be back in two weeks! because the big riders never met that often, it made the golden helmet really special
-
buster wanted suggestions, hes got one!
-
probably get shot down in flames with this suggestion, but as the league would benefit from a major sponsor, id even offer a national newspaper (free) for one season. before shooting me down, say the mirror, for example. All sky games, all grounds with the mirror banners, yes, the mirror gets loads of publicity, but in return, speedway get a half page spread every week? yes, we given away a free sponsor package, but nationally, it get the sport coverage we desperately need....I will go put my tin hat on now!!
-
agree totally on that, get the brand right, must entice the youngsters, (even if I dislike their music)!
-
think we solved the problem then.....loads of minor, solvable problems, but it comes down to ATMOSPHERE, bums on seats. get that sorted, and we back in business!!!..(good luck with that)!
-
think a promoter (like berry) could work the local paper brilliantly in selling the match, especially when hackney and len silver were in town, create a bit of needle
-
yeah, a natural, he could sense tension in latter stages and new exactly how to build up the atmosphere. great banter with crowd, and on a dodgy ref call, he new exactly how to get the crowd going! a foto finish earray would say "the winner..(pause) in white"......(will make sense if you recall it), he could just add that tension
-
top spot is taken! bit of truth in this post. you go to Cardiff or stand in a play off crowd, you are well up for a bit of banter and tension. a normal quiet league match, you end up checking your mobile!
-
ford is no mug, like him or not. if there were signs of upping form, i "doubt" he would of off loaded him. hope horton give watt a miss!

john earrey helped BIG time
-
thinking back as to why I think it was better...obviously atmosphere as large crowds can make an ordinary meeting appear better. big big plus, my pet hate d/u didn't exist. also think, with riders only having one team, it felt they were more committed. I believe personal leathers helped. the racing itself, agree with BW, but I'm not one to care if theres no passing, as long as my team are in front!....hindsight, preferred the music, smell, and maybe when your younger, as a kid you have more passion, as you don't have the bills, etc to think about..the product just appears all wrong today

had loads of re-run videos. with no disrespect, it was way below par coverage of the actual match. from commentary to camera angles

dont think many/any would disagree with a wildcard -
guests is a poor fact we always had to put up with...lot different to d/u and ftr riders

british speedway IS an amateur sport -
having witnessed the best yrs of speedway in the 70s, id disagree here. most teams had 3 heat leaders of quality. example Jessup/lee/turner...Morton/Collins/sjosten...I also think no6 and no7 were better too. second strings were useful as well. add to this no stupid "borrowing" of riders, we all had TEAMS to follow, having watched 4 decades of domestic speedway, id pick the 70s everytime. that's not a fact, its an opinion
-
lots of things you cant prove factually. hence our woffy "disagreement" on the british final, think we have to agree to disagree at times, whereas, on other subjects, I agree with you

Glasgow V Redcar 24/4/16. Sunday
ColinMills replied to Pogo1's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
having just seen some pics from glasgow match, i found impressive shots of the big red and white flags in the crowd. nice touch, simple but effective, and good to see you have a 2 minute clock -
saw Ashby and Kilby in the 70s. from my memory, (only saw him round foxhall), he was quite useful, and rather good in test match, dont have memory of him as a title contender (not to say he wasnt) just cant recall it. the times with 16+ league teams. different side every week, and only seeing riders once a year...magical period personally

this is weird...agreeing with BW on one thread, disagreeing on another over same rider!!
