also having managers/promoters like silver/berry etc who could use the local press to build a match up by giving it edge, a bit of needle, rivalry

i guess its what gripped you to begin with. what gripped me was things you took for granted the smell, music team feel (which i dont see/feel anymore), riders swapping race jackets every night, awful.. tac sub rule...imo it gave managers tactical moves,i never minded ht8 being a 5.1 oppertunity.. who ever invented lge points for losing? if riders are paid per point, they should being racing for every point whatever.. keep it simple! individual colour leathers, they had charactor putting N.L riders in top lge? no thank you, when riders learned the trade and ready by own rights, then yes these are my opinions,i dont try to opese anyone, for me, speedway is finished as its lost credibility, until a team is a team and 7 riders compete for 1 team only, its no longer for me. the fact i bother to be on this site is because i still like the sport, but its sad its in this state..it was great, it could be great again.. the ol style golden helmet was a major excitement for me, a rider only turning up to defend it, challenge for it, when his team wasnt even in town..great draw that was

Nicki Pedersen. Mbe ?
ColinMills replied to Super Blue's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
be interesting reading their comments if that happened!! who on earth you think you are? suggesting someone deletes an account because their view is different from yours? pathetic -
think Tai can be critisized for some things, but you cant critisize him for the opposition. He beat what was in front of him, like any sportsman. The record books will see him go down in history. Would the pole of won the 73 world title had Mauger not fell? loads of champs over the years win it for different pieces of luck. Tai could potentially be a multi champion, and in a day where british speedway is on its knees, Tai should be shouted from the roof-tops

the golden age of dave lanning on world of sport, enjoy it on you tube, proper speedway, proper rules, professional, great crowds

im reluctant to answer gustix, for fear of "going into one".. but to answer above qustion.....there was no organisers!..all i was trying to do, was to highlight Coventry Speedway"s plight, and maybe foolishly, thinking there would be loads of like minded people..Having arranged Mr Pawsey, (who bent over backwards to help), i then arranged tv, and local press..All this done 125 miles away!..and may i add, not many MPs would give time of day to someone outside their voting perimiter!! On three occasions, i asked for 1......just 1 spokesperson, to speak up on the day, with Mr Pawsey, again, i could of quite easily of done this, but i thought it wouldnt go down to well with locals if i was to do this..No one person came forward for this. I had 8 people confirming they would attend this meeting..I called up and spoke to the Honeycombe public house, who were very accomadating in letting us use there venue..i had messages on Coventry Speedway fb page as well, so after all this, for someone to call my efforts a FIASCO, does slightly niggle me..I was more than happy to drive down on the day, think other club fans would, but hence this oppertunity in now passed. I personally think the Coventry public desperately want speedway to remain, but i also think, you may now be leaving it too late..As stated before, just look how long its taken Belle Vue to get new stadium, Leicester, Birmingham..theres also many that never returns, long eaton, cradley plus others..As for the sponsorship idea, gain i dont care if people want in or not, but im no rip off merchant, again was just willing to help, but just sometimes ( a lot in speedway) you can end up hitting your head against a brick wall

what happened at berwick?

have you noticed the depondancy amongst all of you about speedway. its clear to see why "ousiders" are not going through turnstiles..its really on its way down and out, and no one appears to stop the rot.. imo, i think all the sharing of riders is its last straw

some of the decisions of the agm are baffling, its short term imo

ColinMills replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
for me ideally woffy harris cook nicholls...???? king/barker/lewis/kennet wouldnt touch with a barge pole whilst this "give youngsters a go", i dont feel our youngsters are in the same class as the young denmark contingent, and i see nothing gaained by anyone, being 40yrds off the pace. id ALWAYS go with riders that can compete -
if theres enough people interested, why not make use of this forum to give a young brit (no particular one in mind) a massive step up?....at a function i was part of a sponsored darts match 24 hrs raised £1,100...10 players all topped £100 in sponsors..which made me think, if, say, 30 people on here, arranged a sponsor day, of some kind, between us, we could hand over roughly £3,000 to a deserving rider, or even a struggling club?....as i say, just a thort, bit IF people are up for it, lets do it!

his image is fantastic imo, even if its not my style. his entourage is great too, creating a image, a product, is what Tai does amazingly well, hes getting noticed, hes what youngsters connect with. his product is marketable, and surely in modern day sport, Tai should be given every bit of credit for what hes doing for speedway

Grand Prix Draws.
ColinMills replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
its on speedwayworld championship, can go through google easy to find -
with british speedway (probably) at its lowest ebb in years, its probably even more important than ever, that ENGLAND ha a world champion. the Tai moaners should be grateful hes remained riding in england. it is also in the realms of reality, as the years roll by, we could be witnessing a real great in speedway. its not impossible (with age on side) he COULD, be the most succesful rider in world speedway. for a british fan to moan about what he is doing, is beyond me really

Where Is British Speedway Going.
ColinMills replied to mc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
absolutely..some riders will say it stops them earning a living, by stopping them doubling up, but surely for the sake of making this sport look more professional, and credibility, this has to happen -
Where Is British Speedway Going.
ColinMills replied to mc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
that could certainly work, just get away from rider sharing! tonights brit final, proving this point, unlike the 70s, 80s, the brit final is dominated by lower lge riders.. -

ColinMills replied to mc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
it appears to me, speedway is now at the stage, where theres now, not such a mega difference between el and prem, the step up/down though promtion, relegation couldd surely happen without a masive fallout -
Where Is British Speedway Going.
ColinMills replied to mc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
theres no chance of it happening, but "proper" promotion/relegation, 7 man teams with no doubling up, no guests, and no dopey double points would enhance a bit of credibility back into lge racing..while you have promoters using the safety net of remaining in a lower league going through the motions, is just not enthralling enough...of course theres a financial budget, but clubs need promoters with ambition and forward thinking, and not just keep the status quo...fans wanting to remain in lower leagues, i just dont get either, sport has to be about winning, the mentality has to be about winning -
Tai Woffinden
ColinMills replied to David Haddock's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
i know fans dont like hearing this, but if a rider is riding in say 3 leagues, it pays there mortgage, bills, but the GP is where any top rider will give it there all, theres no "testing" in a GP..A gp rider will miss lge games, but how many gp"s do they duck out of?..im not saying a rider doesnt try for their teams, its just not the same. imagine a rider performing in front of say, 700 people on a wet tuesday night, compared to 20,000 fans, world-wide tv, which brings in big sponsors etc, its on natural...again, i DONT say its right -
