  1. 1970s......dave lanning world of sport golden age, michanek, j.louis, olsen, mauger 41-50
  2. to win the old world titles, you had to score 8+ every round, if not...goodbye..how many "favours" do we se now, i repeat, your nationality can get you a spot in the gp now, but thats modern day sport
  3. e find ourselves where riders are put in because of nationality..could you imagine if all poles were outside the top 8? think you talking bout pts he would of scored!
  4. how many world finals would harris of made??
  5. i will be there too if so....................
  6. if clubs want money, its not like they performing to sellout crowds, id suggest promoters promote, instead of EXPECTING people through the turnstiles, bombard the area in publicity, think some get up and go needed sometimes..the vacant spaces in stadiums is money wasted, you cant drag people in, but it appears the only efforts to promote this sport is on bank holiday weekends!
  7. i read many many people say he gps are better than the old world finals..the old world finals were just 1 round.. did anybody see those brilliant qualifiers at saddlebow, white city etc? the cut offs were brilliant stuff, you didnt have the get out clause of the "wild cards" to keep certain people happy, if you were out, you were out!..i actually loved the fact you had 16 riders who had the right to be in the final, who were all just 5 rides from being world champion....no doubt when we end up at torun theyl be just 2 riders who can be champion!....yes, im old school, we cant all agree
  8. absolutely spot on, its become a joke, and its not a product to sell..its all short term fixes
  9. i dont think theres any rider that a big draw nowadays. if ole olsen was in town you could sense a buzz around the place.. nobody in speedway, and the way its run now can give that feeling
  10. i dont agree, it doesnt mean your not right though..
  11. can of worms or what?? i cant see apromoter divulging that info!!
  12. i not saying your right or wrong. maybe im old school, but when the gulf oil british league (as it was then), simplistic worked fine., 40-38 was the magical score line, you knew if you got less then 39 you went home empty handed, i liked that consept, for me sport is about rewarding winners, not losers........you could run a persoonal best at olympics and come 4th, no one will give you a medal for trying hard
  13. yes, i sponsor 1 in particular, its fair to say, there are some real grateful riders around
  14. yes always preferred the tac sub rule..the managers needed to be a lot wiser then today.. in speedway we are told riders only get paid by points scored..so keeping the scores close doesnt mean they try "harder" as surely if your paid per point, you should be trying anyway?
  15. everyone on this site knows the sport inside out, even if we dont agree..but we all agree its in bad shape. do the promoters carry on the way it is, or do they get radical...team strength isnt for me, most important. if i watch world cup, gps i know im watching a PRODUCT. If im watching a league match, i see a amatuer production, who fill teams up with any 7 riders just to get a match on. try taking a newby, learrning them to fill a programme in...they study the programme and realise the team they watched have lost. you then tell them "at least we get a point for LOSING". you then have to explain 3,2,1 pts for result, then 4,3,2,1 away pts!! KEEP IT SIMPLE..if you lose, you lose......
  16. ok gustix i accept that answer, although your "advice" wouldnt be needed, but thanks in any case
  17. altho i agree with you, yes we would love them all back, but not if they didnt have thee heart in it, and went awol on gp weeks
  18. what a surprise.....gustix replies with his NEGATIVE comments right after my previous posts, yet when i ask him to do something POSITIVE......its oh so quiet?????????????
  19. no probs, just thort it bit funny as k.lynn never won title
  20. Sport thrives on passion, imo, if your club was near top of say PL, and speedway had proper rules, like promotion/relegation, atmosphere would be automatic
  21. quite agree matt, every business needs a set market, but product must be right , and its nowhere near right
  22. can you explain how k.lynn are the biggest team in british speedway?
  23. i dont think league speedway in its current form is marketable myself
  24. i only just seen this post..firstly, well done, you got "one like"..im disliked a lot, getting a "like" is not why i ever place comments.. How did i fail to do the groundwork gustix? i had MP/TV/PRESS all sorted, i had date, and yes i had venue albeit a bit late on that count..i had every single aspect covered...the one and only thing i didnt have was a local speaker, despite numerous attempts for one. not knowing any local coventry fans, i think you would agree, i needed someone to step up. the other thing i didnt have was public backing in enough numbers. 8 people in fact..so excuse my ignorance, but the groundwork in arranging the date and the important people WAS sorted, 125 miles away. if the coventry public couldnt/wouldnt spread the word, i couldnt do anything about that..as i stated, this thread and coventry fb was notified...theres do-ers in life, and theres moaners..as big bro says..you decide! I tell you what gustix..as i think its vital, its too important to leave, lets arrange it? are you happy to help organise it "PROPERLY". Do you care enough about coventry speedway to join me? take my challenge and show me your true colours? show me how much you want to help?..i will go through all the connections again, if you throw all your weight behind this........ i await your reply........i have all the important numbers, contacts in my book, all ready to go
  25. thank you for that...i was not aware as far as previous sponsorship went as i wasnt on here at the time, but by what i hear i fully understand now
