Speedway Star Article : 'lindback Adds Up'
WestGorton1884 replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
So at the beginning of this new era for the Belle Vue Aces at the NSS, ive managed to get a few friends interested in the sport , who wouldn't usually bother. Now as the season reaches its climax , im asked to explain why the Aces main rivals for the title are allowed to dfaft in two GP riders just in time for the play offs ? ." Its like City or United getting Messi for the title run in because Barcelona have finished their season " was one comment , " what a s*** sport " was another . Im not blaming Poole or Wolves , They've done nothing wrong , but surely this can't be good for the sport in this country? , i know at least 4 people who may or may not come back next year . So for the good of the sport lets hope its a Belle Vue win this year -

Is it any wonder speedway in this country is on its knees ,Belle Vue Keep same 7 all season ,reach the play offs , only to find Wolves and Poole fielding ringers who couldn't be bothered with the Elite league , six months ago , absolute joke of a sport- 769 replies

Wow , Manchester City even get a mention on a speedway forum , im a regular at Belle Vue and a season ticket holder at the Etihad stadium , where i go every week with another 54,000 'invisible' fans, ,,,sorry damosuzuki , but your'e talking ***** -
Anyway back to Speedway . The new track at Belle Vue as completely rekindled my love for the sport , not seen a bad meeting there all year , and Sunday against Poole was one of best ive seen since Hyde Road closed , ,._.One question, having never been there , why is Leicesters track so bad ? The shape ?

Even on a speedway forum, United fans obsession with Citys crowds raises its ugly head ,,,,, ah well , i will be in attendance at both the Etihad stadium and the NSS , supporting both my local sports teams -
Oh for the days of PC , Simmo, Jessup , Lee , etc .

Tai Woofenden wonders why British Speedway is in the doldrums , look no further than decisions like this . So the Aces ,and the rest of the elite league spend 3 quarters of the season striving for a play off spot , only for Wolves to throw the world champion in just in time for the play offs . I understand TW is a Wolves asset but if he didn't think it was worth his while riding in England at the start of the season , whats changed ? Makes a complete mockery of the sport .

What kind of sport is speedway becoming , if youre allowed to draft the world champion in just in time for the play offs ?, no wonder speedway in this country is at a alltime low -

I have many memories of Ivan , but none are better than my father taking me to Hyde Road to my first speedway meeting in 1970 , to watch the 'famous Belle Vue Aces' the smell , the noise , the ace of clubs race jacket i had bought me , the riders ....Soren , Wilkie , Chris Pusey , etc ,but none better than the great Ivan Mauger, with his trademark checkered helmet and a riding style that just oozed class ,. thanks for the memories Ivan , the greatest speedway rider ever !

spot on grand central Thank you

Thank you maneacat , i thought the first reply was a tad uncalled for , im not a member of the paparazzi for gods sake !!! , i simply thought the easiest way to get any information on the wellbeing of one of speedways all time greats was via a british speedway forum . i am a member of Facebook and will definitely look at the page you recommended , Ivan Mauger was my hero at Belle Vue , id only been going a couple of years when he was 'forced' into a move to Exeter , i was distraught . every time he returned to Hyde Road with the Falcons he always seemed to get a mixed reception ? , (not from me, i may add ). Ivan rode for other teams but to me he'll always be a Belle Vue Ace ! Thanks once again maneacat

Thanks iris

Fair enough , didn't mean to pry, just trying to find any info on his condition , he was my childhood hero
-
forgive me if theres already a post relating to this ,but im just wondering if anybody had heard any news on the health of Ivan Mauger ? (in my eyes the greatest Speedway rider ever !! ) but since reading he had retired from public life due to ill health ( alzheimers i believe ) ive not read any updates on his condition anywhere ?

I was at that meeting sidney , it was always going to be a rout , but most Aces fans went along to see what all the fuss about this "wonder kid" was , he didn't disappoint , ...... a special talent
