  1. I think often a lot of any "critism" towards clubs is generally aimed at being constructive because theres not a fan out there that wants to see another track closed. Stoke was a dump but i miss it, Buxton was basic and possibly ahead of its time. If clubs embrace the challenges they face and are open and honeat about them you will often find the paying public are far more supportive.
  2. didn't expect that to be fair but it does show his commitment to learn all tracks rather than just look for ones that suit him so hats off.
  3. Congreves average will make a massive difference as 6ish for a 3rd heat leader makes the team look a bit weak but 8ish for another genuine big hitter with a solid engine room and constant strong reserve would make this a very dangerous side.
  4. Never thought id see those two names in the same post. Mulford is undoubtedly talented but has had loads of outside input to get him going on speedway and from a personal doesn't currently have the temprement required to get to the next level (lets mot forget this years NDL was flattering). Im happy to be proven wrong and ive certainly discredited riders in the past who have turned it all around.
  5. Gilkes yes Mulford no. Sadly he lacks focus on speedway and is trying to run before he can walk. Gilkes on the other hand will be sought after by many clubs with huge potential and a very professional approach
  6. Big stumbling block (other than geography) is the block on ghost teams so I guess at best hope is either Birmingham Bee's or the sponsored by approach so Birmingham "Coventry Bees" Brummies but neither would get Coventry listed in any official results so not a lot in it for them really.
  7. Heeps might look worth a gamble at CL but PL he appears a massive risk, Rowe could be another who stalls and the all important RS could make a heck of a difference, pushing for a good one rather than local will be key.
  8. Nathan's had a couple of cracks at CL and never really cut it consistently. No doubting he can be quick but often over rides and i think he has his own business now? Also no idea on his recovery from the multiple broken bones he got on IOW?
  9. Think Iwade is a Nora site and not SCB? Also even with the donated air fence i suspect there is still too much to do to get up to league standard ....plus obviously would need a promotor. Very much doubt IOW will be back after how they were treated and the dirty tricks campaign against them. In reality its Armadale, Berwick, Belle Vue, Mildenhall and probably Leicester. Then its the new entries / maybes Redcar? Oxford?. Think Northside 2023 will be a thing but for next season the clock is probably against them to get finished, signed off and build a team etc
  10. In fairness Alcock was the worst rider in the league, Freeman just got dumped in to replace him as you pointed out far before he was ready. Thers certainly an argument that riders should achieve a certain level in the NDL before they can take up a CL place.
  11. Rowe rejected the RS wages and brokered his own deal based on being part of the 1-6. Can't see that changing this year...unless he thinks hes at risk of being left out?
  12. I know little about Congreve so he could be the real deal and a real bargain but the overseas unknown riders who come in on a visa recieve a hefty amount of help from clubs and far more than many young brits in the same boat. Id wager that several UK emerging stars would have stronger seasons if they knew that accommodation, food and basic living costs were being covered.
  13. At some point they will have to separate and forge their own paths but it certainly won't be yet. Leicester and associated sponsors have invested a lot into the twins over the years and they won't risk losing out on that return even if it compromises a season or two. The twins and the club are playing the long game plus they are in demand as a pair so if the Lions only wanted one its likely that both would find a deal elsewhere.
  14. I think thats exactly why they dropped it although theres an argument to say if "we" are not producing enough riders on the conveyor belt the solution shouldn't be to abandon the process but look at ways of improving it. The NDL was dulled down so those who might have been ready to push on weren't really pushed and those definitely ready had a casual easy season. If the RS system remained (as flawed as it was) it would at least force clubs in higher divisions to take an interest in the progress of emerging riders and do something about it to assist like (dare i say it) the do in Poland.
  15. The problem being that NDL is (or should be) fairly high up that ladder from riders who are starting out/have limited experience. Realistically it should be Introduction days, Amateur Practice, Amateur Meetings, Dev Leagues, NDL (or youth route, dev leagues NDL) however sadly the opportunities are few and far between for the early ones leaving promotors to track riders who aren't ready on the hopes that they will make a rapid breakthrough or get dropped when the next rider who shows a glimmer of talent shows up
  16. Anyone know what the decision was on conversion rates? Obviously there was the 5 year plan to increase from 1.5 to 2.0 in increments of 0.1 each season but that "stalled due to covid" (no idea what covid had to do with a conversion rate). Will the increase actually be applied or was the only thing to come out of the zoom meetings is to drop all 5 year plans?
  17. All guesses but... Sheff - Mountain Vue - Palin P'boro - Brennan Wolves - Thompson/Hume Ippo - Flint Lynn - Kemp
  18. So likely to be Mountain, Palin, Brennan, Flint, Kemp + a.n.other (possibly D.Thompson) with the ever unfortunate Hume missing out.
  19. Genuine question is the beef between the Ippo promotion and Kennett? Yes he was a bit pants last year (still better than Heeps) but he is a Foxhole master and yet year on year seems to get over looked for a Witches team place? I would have thought a strong home side that can pick up pieces on the road was a better way to build?
  20. There is no point (might as well make it all PL teams have to have Brit under 24). Because the scheme was so well considered (cough) and the longer term aspects realised that the majority of the RS places for CL level would be filled with riders not ready to make the step its been dropped. Implementing a "system" when there is a glut of riders available is easy but as the next 12 riders haven't appeared out of thin air the whole thing has been dropped.
  21. Discouraging statement today which says the door is open to Birmingham and Kent until the agm is held (although there will no longer be an official agm held). Either way late entry and late team building is going to create issues of both cost and quality. I fear another rocky season ahead for Brum.
  22. and the ever decreasing circle continues......if thats the reason then its crazy. How about, crazy concept i know, having competition for team places. The best / best value riders get team places and the others don't. During the season there will be changes and opportunities for those who are still interested and the sport gets to use the best possible riders available rather than the all inclusive that does nothing but lower the standards
  23. Its certainly going to be an interesting winter and upcoming season with the lower end riders and former rising stars with regards to who is seen as "good value" , who is seen as a future investment and who is seen as hitting the ceiling. Palin on 5.70 could be argued as a bit high, Flint on 6+ likewise if compared to riders like Nicol and Etheridge who are both around 5.5 and spent most of the season at heat leader. If team building is 42 then most of these will likely be slotted in with the lack of power heat leaders in the league but there will be nervy waits for some, Simon Lambert on 5.98 doesn't look a shoe in to improve that number so could be a long winter for him.
  24. Id wager more money on the flying circus lasting longer.
