  1. Definitely has its own micro climate like Buxton. Little bit more squeezed for space around the track but a much better racing surface. Seen plenty of good riders round the place and setting some quick times. The plus side is the training track, 2nd halves etc can all be a breeding ground for future riders with an actual progression route (rather than the BSPL mickey mouse ones)
  2. This post will be referenced time and time again to prove that you are a clueless fool.
  3. I think its a great venue and offered track time to a huge number of riders over the years. Its the type of venue that is more sustainable if the sport has a long term future. However its certainly rough and ready and won't be everyones cup of tea. The other divide will remain between track owners versus promotors as to who provides the investment for any upgrades etc. As stated though, field parking, hired toilets, bars and catering a-la grasstrack and theres absolutely no reason why its not a sustainable venture. Next up is a team that fans can relate to of Kent connected or based riders.
  4. I shudder to think where spectator facilities sit on the list of things that could/should/must be done at Iwade to make it a practical NDL venue
  5. Tommy Gun plus any half decent 2 pointer makes it look a cracking side
  6. All depends who is signed at 5. A team will look below par without one of the heat leaders. Another 6ish point signing it looks a solid team, an 8ish rider and its a strong home side with genuine home track specialists. Its also built to a budget but won't be getting turned over at home every week which should be enough to keep the core supporters happy.
  7. Positive about Scunny ok they have a shout of a top 6 place. Barring disaster Poole, Glasgow and Leicester take 3 places. Leaving Oxford, Berwick, Redcar, Scunthorpe, Plymouth and Edinburgh to squabble over the final 3. In my opinion Oxford and Berwick will take two of the spots so its down to a 3 way battle between Scunthorpe, Redcar and Plymouth for the final place. So there positive thoughts i predict Scunny to be 6th-8th. Certainly better than being a Brum fan right now.
  8. Personally i think Newcastle have almost got the team building right on a budget (potentially Congreve on a 4.00 rather than a brit and more for final heat leader could be a blooper but....) built a team of home specialists and dependable riders. Starke and BWD might not be grand marquee signings but Brum would be delighted with either at the present time.
  9. I think the 1-5 looks great and can't see mistakes being made at reserve to undo the good work. Oxford are in for a strong opening season. Rode a bit on IOW before injuring himself. Not sure he wants a place anywhere but NL is more likely for the Oxford connections than CL.
  10. That will certainly work for crowd figures but not convinced that home wins alone will be enough for play off spot. Obviously a lot can change/happen but there are already 5 very strong sides shaping up and others (except Brum) building for home wins so something has to give.
  11. Its difficult to comment without sounding negative but....even if team building could/did start at the same time as all other teams the budget at Brum is clearly tight as previously covered by rent and required attendances. I fully admire and respect the consortium for pushing ahead and i know a year away would have its negatives also but i can't help thinking a year to prepare and recruit might have yielded a team that people are willing to watch every week (in sufficient numbers).
  12. Certainly don't need to be 15 to be any good round Iwade (and many aren't) stick Rob Hollingsworth and Mick Skinner in the team and watch them clean up #grandadsarmy
  13. Much will depend if its alternative race nights or double headers. Limited benefit to race a 2nd half for Gilkes, Atkins and co personally but who knows. Atkins on a sub 6 average at Plymouth looks the bargain of the season. Trigger as pointed out by others is in with a strong chance and maybe Ward too?
  14. I fully agree but that still means the likes of Hume, Thompson, Mulford etc travelling to either home or away meetings, standing there all night and not taking a ride. Bit different when they were 2nd half riders but can't see many being so keen on that scenario now and certainly won't be doing it for free.
  15. Genuine question but is the lower required limit still active? With the dearth of heat leaders available it feels like a "strength" in depth side ahead? Thomas, Paco, Sedgy, Auty then hope NBJ or Crump have a change of heart?
  16. Northside have already said due to vandalism the entry would be pushed back until 2023. Nice that the communication channels are open with IOW but i think they would happily sit back and watch how the upcoming season pans out before making any commitments.
  17. If Smith was an out and out NDL number 1 he wouldn't have been available on a 6.5 average mid season, that said looking back over his scores he did perform extremely well at home and solid away so either has a new higher average or will get one soon. JPB is no doubt talented but don't bite the hand that feeds you, although if he had Smiths level of equipment and some application he could be riding top tier by now (so in my humble opinion he is a wasted talent). Ablitt has had backing and ability since he was a nipper and it was clear then he would go on to better things, Belle Vue will suit him and if he stays grounded i expect a big year from him. The clever way the team has been built is that there will always be a strong reserve which is ever important, i still think this team will be in the play offs but handing them the trophy is a bit much.
  18. Not intended to be harsh but with a closing average of 3.00 and actual average around 7 and starting at reserve he should be cleaning up in the early stages. There are obviously final averages out there as all teams have been able to build around them but us normals are not treated to such delicate information, yet another treat of resepect from the Mafia board to the fans
  19. I think the Iwade based team will benefit and be hampered from being weekend based. Doubling up riders could be a problem but Morley is a great shout at number 1 especially if he doesn't land a CL place. The rest will depend upon who was the sponsors favourites etc bit do agree that Spooner and Coles would be great value additions. Very unsure on Clouting though as he has been around (not full seasons granted) a while and still hasn't really put much on his starting average.
  20. Obviously a lot of teams to be announced etc BUT both Jacks have proven to be wasted talents thus far and finishing on 6ish averages in a weakened NDL last year shows that, McGurks had great years and will be the season to show if they can improve or plateau and "i" think the teams success will largely hang on how they do. Freeman is another with plenty of potential and its time to deliver, Ablitt will be tasting life at (or near) number 1 and thats a big step for him. I hope Hodder has taken a big leap forward from when i last saw him and i really wish that the actual 2021 final greensheets would be published so everyone could know whats going on and how teams are being built.
  21. Didn't hang about, definitely team Marmite. Built with "potential" but time will tell who pushes onwards and upwards.
  22. d be delighted for all involved at Brum if Nicol was one of the signings as he can be box office and great value but options really are becoming limited atm.
  23. sorry didn't mention Nicol....i said Ully and Auty
  24. Perhaps neither fancied dropping back down to the NDL
