Bob Radford And Phil Crump

Me too. My father-in-law died of lung cancer aged 61. My Mother-in law had breast cancer aged 63. My children's Godmother died of Leukaemia aged 53 and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 64. Cancer is vile. -
Thank you WK...good to know my 2 remaining brain cells are still functioning.

Diverging slightly...Was it Ken le Breton who rode in White leathers? I remember Nigel Boocock in Blue and Mike Broadbank in Red.

Rye House 2015
customhouseregular replied to hackneyrocket's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I reckon the entertainment value and variety in the PL trumps the EL...just my opinion of course. Berwick and Sheffield look good but I'll always have a soft spot for Rye House as it is where I first saw speedway, back in 1960. -

Programmes Wanted Please
customhouseregular replied to pine490's topic in Souvenirs & Memorabilia etc
If anyone out there has any Ice Speedway World Individual and World Team programmes they are willing to offload at sensible prices, would they kindly message me. Many thanks. -
Yes...I just kept emailing them till they gave in Kept harping on about him being a local lad and Britain's first World Champion since 2000 and it worked.

Was there not a rider in the 60's who bucked the trend and wore green leathers?.

Living far from London as I now do, I can't say I miss Pie and Mash. I don't miss prefabs though my Grandparents lived in one, and I certainly don't miss Jellied eels. What I do miss is a good plate of Rock and Chips.

I did this with our regional ITV news programme in 2013 and finally got them to do a feature on Tai Woffinden.

As there are no tracks in London are the National press seeing speedway as a Provincial sport, and therefore not worthy of National coverage?.
-
OK, not relevant to 2015 but I have seen the Heathens of the 60's post. Well done

The Newham London web site The Newham Story has an excellent article on Eric Chitty. Well worth a read for all old London fans.

England V Australasia 1958 Test Match
customhouseregular replied to one of clubs's topic in Years Gone By
As with most things of this kind, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If a serious collector had every England v Australia programme bar this he would pay a lot. The same goes for autograph collectors missing Peter Craven's. Once upon a time I had the High Beech 40th. Anniversary programme from February 1968, signed by every rider I could collar. If I still had it, what would that be worth?. -
What a fantastic site and a must-visit one for all old Heathens. Can someone find something as good for West Ham?.

Is anyone organising a raffle to win a signed copy of Norbold's latest opus?.

2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators
customhouseregular replied to customhouseregular's topic in International World of Speedway
Once again...many thanks for your updates. Unless Ivanov has a stormer and Koltakov collapses this afternoon, we shall have a new champion crowned at Inzell. -
Wot!...jellied eels and liqour. Ambrosia (NOT).

Thank you.

I'm sure a different paper sponsored each race, not just the Express. Could be wrong.

It strikes me that the British press have forgotten that Speedway exists. In years gone by the World Championship was sponsored by the Sunday Mirror, ensuring National coverage. I vaguely recall attending a meeting at Wimbledon early 70's/late 60's where every race was sponsored by a National newspaper. (Norbold may be of help here). At one time the Daily Mail could be relied upon to give speedway coverage, but they have deserted us. If people who have never seen speedway can not read about it, how are we to attract them through the gates?.

Top 10 Favourite Races.

Just watched this. Scrap the GP semis and have an 8-man handicapped Final. 8 riders around Cardiff should be interesting -
Your First Taste Of Speedway
customhouseregular replied to customhouseregular's topic in Years Gone By
I was working in London and went out for lunch, only to see the Evening Standard placards "shouting" the news. I went numb. I bought the Standard and the Evening News and read the reports in shocked disbelief. I have forgotten much over the past 40+ years but not that. -
I'm asking Santa this year for "The Best Of Norman Jacobs" box set.
