I have not attended a Grass Track meeting since the 1960's, but looking at the list of past winners and placed riders of the Poacher, this looks to be a great day out. Interesting to see kelvin Tatum was as good on grass as he was at Long Track.
With only 8 teams competing and half the league making play-offs, the end result does not mean much.
A 13-15 team league with teams meeting each other once home/once away, and the team finishing first are champions is much more meaningful.
If the team finishing 4th. out of 8 wins the play-off final, are they worthy champions?.
When and where did you first see Speedway?.
For me this was 1960 at Rye House. However, my mother was attending meetings whilst pregnant with me. So, if you count attending a meeting as am embryo, put me down as West Ham 1947.
I am somewhat surprised at some of the anti-Hancock sentiment being shown. He is a really nice person, or seems to be, a triple WC with a GP record almost impossible to beat and the fact he has avoided serious injury for 20 years is no accident (excuse the pun). He knows what to do and when to do it which puts him right up there in my opinion.
I said no 2 people would agree. What this does show though is what a hotbed of speedway London used to be, and how sad it is not to have our sport in the capital.
