Now her's a challenge, even for Norbold with the propensity of London teams since 1928.
Think of the World Champions that have graced London sides.
Think of the great riders who rode for West Ham, Wimbledon, New Cross and Harringay.
I doubt any 2 members will agree on the top 7, so I'll start this off with;
Wilkinson
Young
Knutsson
Briggs
Moore
Johnson
Waterman
Over to you...
Can't argue with Wilkinson, Stevenson or Atkinson. I was largely going from my memories and my Mother's memories, although she went pre-war also but was a child at the time. Let's make it a West Ham top 10 shall we?.
As always...who do you leave out?. Of course, being a World Champion Bluey is an all-time great, but pre-war was so different from post-war. So I concentrated on post-war.
3 World titles PLUS...just look at all the stats from his GP's. With a GP round at least equivalent to a World Final his record is awesome. Nobody knows how well Mauger, Fundin, Briggs et al would have fared under a GP system, but Greg is right up there with them.
Mauger was never exciting but Greg certainly can be. Possibly Greg can not be put alongside Mauger, Rickardson, Fundin, Briggs and Nielsen but he ranks alongside Olsen, Gundersen and Crump...in my opinion of course.
Now i know I'm going dotty...I thought the comparison was between George Formby!
Could not work out what Greg Hancock had to do with cleaning windows!.
I may have false memory syndrome but I seem to recall seeing him ride at a grasstrack meeting in Kent c. 1967. If I am right Malcolm Simmons and Don Godden were also competing, but I do sometimes get my memories muddled. No doubt Norbold will know if I am right.
