  1. Swindon moving to their new arena, entering a team in the National Trophy, threatened clubs continuing to race, the GPs, bring it on!
  2. Stratton St. Margaret birthplace of Mad Wellie and champ jockey Johnny Francome. Used to live in Ermin Street, village atmosphere. I live in Haydon End, bloody love it. You always get some bloody know-all prattling on about somewhere they have never lived.I've lived in London, Cornwall, Scotland, Cumbria, Hampshire, but like where I am now. When I was on holiday in Oz last month some Aussie was prattling on about living in England, i said you would know as youve never lived there. Very generous crowd these Swindonians, top of Ben Fund league again, never lived in place with such good community spirit. That's why it probably ranks so highly in best places to live.
  3. It's the 27th. Best place to live Sid.I'm lucky I live in a decent area, Priory Vale, certainly better than Peckham London SE15 where I grew up. We have almost full employment and soon have a decent speedway arena to boot. Lovely part of the world this ere town, with that lovely magic roundabout. I've lived in quite a few places Wiltshire one of the best.
  4. As has been said the new track will be in use from June so they will just transfer. Surprised only 1000 seats in 3000 capacity, then not everyone likes parking their bums. Spot on and very few of those live in Swindon and surrounding area.
  5. Speedway started going downhill when the Yanks and Danes started taking over from the Brits in the 80s.
  6. I don't buy it in winter but buy it at the club shop at Swindon on a Thursday night, or at the local Sainsburys or Tescos. Love the special edition, my bruv in Oz gets a copy, although it costs me a fortune to airmail. Can Mr.Rising give us the circulation figures for the different times of year?
  7. Yep had to have both although preferred the Star, more reading, the Mail had loads of photos.
  8. Was up at The Abbey today chatting to Robins CEO Mike Bowden...bloody nice bloke. The club shop was open for sale of merchandise, season tickets.
  9. They are to be known as The Swindon Red T1ts
  10. Would have thought Belle Vue and Poole were the best supported clubs last season. Swindon will be in top 3 next year. Would have thought Belle Vue and Poole were the best supported clubs last season. Swindon will be in top 3 next year.
  11. I live in windon but Manchester is a central location for all British fans. The new Abbey should be ready in June.
  12. It's strange that the watching public in Australia are different to the British fans. As my Bruv says in Oz they are mainly bikies who wouldn't be seen dead filling in a programme.
  13. I think if it wasn't for the new stadium and Doyley the crowds would be dangerously low, probably would be lucky to get 4 figures. Once the novelty has worn off though? The league cannot get weaker and weaker and weaker....time for one league in 2018 perhaps?
  14. Look forward to the new season, Robins line up looks decent. Bumper crowds when they move into new arena. Usual 1200 hardy cold looking souls till then. Go you Rockin Robins!
  15. The Speedway Star is an excellent mag, have read it on and off since it was a redtop in the sixties. My bruv in Adelaide bloody loves it when i send it to him a few times a year.
  16. Used to visit the Smarts Chessells and a few others to renew their personal accident insurance, all nice guys.
  17. Keener Dukey Munday Bouchard Hitchy David Ashby Mad Wellie etc, loyal clubmen for the Robins, mostly local lads.
  18. But wages are about 3 times higher in Britain.
  19. I remember when in the 70s speedway football and the flicks were all around the same price. Don't mind forking out 17 quid for a ticket at the new Swindon stadium as a seat is guaranteed. Some stadiums 12 quid is a sufficient amount to pay for the facilities and quality of racing on offer.
  20. And he used to have extra onions and mustard. Looking forward to the new season, good line-up and new stadium and bigger crowds. Good to see Swindon fans topped Ben Fund league for second year running. Would be worth lashing out for season ticket.
  21. Are the Bird in Hand and Jolly Sailor pubs still there...nice village
  22. In Rosco We Trust.....others pay cash Was torn between the dons and robins when I moved from souf London to Swindon. The Robins won out in the end.
  23. Best Ove ive ever seen just edging it over Briggo Mauger.
  24. Swindon..Briggsy Adamsy Ashby Broady Kilby Doyley Crumpie Favs Mad Wellie Hitchy Keener Zagar Hansi Killer Steady
