  1. I am concerned that "it" ( the lack of pulling out all the stops ) may be catching. Poole came to King's Lynn and were certainly not "stop pulling" and then the Stars are infected and look what happens. Will it be Somerset tonight?
  2. The winner of such a "doctored tracks" final will NOT be fans, who will yet again be denied seeing serious racing in what at all costs speedway.
  3. It's down to the "money men" as to what they will try and they backed away from this a few years ago. Swedish style "star name" teams represent too much of a financial risk for those investing in UK speedway. Only radical re-construction of what is on offer in the UK plus a completely different approach to marketing than is undertaken currently will possibly turn things around attendance-wise.
  4. My hunch is that little will change with the mooted two league - Championship level & National level - unless only riders who can commit to riding in the UK are used. With NO doubling down and a lower overall admission price especially in the "top" league. Even then without standardised bikes and a much more positive style of marketing, the UK sport cannot grow. And of course weekend racing for those tracks who prefer it.
  5. What is enough? 7 is failing to attract fans to a majority of those 7 tracks running now. One or two are making enough but they can not ride against each other twice a month - can they? The mooted 14 "top" and 14 "lower " leagues seems much more realistic as it offers variety to existing supporters but I cannot see even that attracting new fans in any serious numbers. Managed decline will continue.
  6. Quite right in many ways but sadly no-one involved in promoting speedway has the slightest idea on how to turn the clock forward and bring the crowds flocking back either. Some elements of the past slower, less powerful bikes able to be ridden on tracks with grip should produce closer racing and more passing which equals on-track ) excitement, which everyone craves ( especially new fans if they are to fall in love with UK speedway ). The predictable nature of most heats and many matches is what will continue to fail to attract any new fans of any age.
  7. Great service and regular runs. Get off at the Southgates and you are only 15 mins walk from the track. Quite cheap for a taxi from there I imagine.
  8. This is the most accurate definition I have read re UK speedway at the moment. VFM - dropping close to zero. Agree totally and it is not because of viewing UK speedway from 1950 to 2000 through rose tinted spectacles. The slump of the last 20 years has just gone on and on and cannot be revived without razing to the ground what now exists.
  9. You are more of a "dinosaur" than me! We have to get with it ( or get out ) Speedway runs from mid-April to mid-September nowadays ( or even mid-August if your team is having a bad season ).
  10. Better by far then to have matches consisting of 50 NOT 15 "heats" of one lap each to allow for the non gaters to have another go or three.
  11. I have been trying to work out how many. But I ran out of noses to add them up on. We will soon be reassured that all of this will not happen in 2019 / 2020 / 2021 and certainly before UK speedway folds in on itself.
  12. Riding 4 matches is a mad ask as well as a big ask. Beggars belief that anyone "planned" the fixture list months ago. The doubleheader V Wolves may have gone relatively smoothly but that is not to say it can be repeated. Sod's Law truly exists. What can you say! Things will never change because there is no shared impetus to change things for the better within the BSPA. And believe it or not I am not a Doom & Gloom merchant either but I am a realist who can see no future progress without enormous changes within the sport in the UK.
  13. That's Speedway, the only sport that lost it's way and failed to find it again. Managed decline in full swing.
  14. There is little or no difference between them except they do not ride against each other. The two leagues of 14 teams mooted for 2019 should improve things for existing fans but of course, will not pull in new ones. Hopefully with no doubling down.
  15. Yes, it's a pathetic way to run what is claimed as a professional sport seeking wider credibility. But they can pull in 1,000 and are happy with that.
  16. Written and said numerous times about a rider who is more often dangerous than out of control. Pity because he is talented but has little idea of how to utilise that talent. And little respect for other riders.
  17. The rumour I have heard and which sounds credible is that there will be 2 leagues of 14 teams each. The top one being at Championship level and the second at National League level. Presumably, the biggest of names will be not required due to cost - but that is my spin on it.
  18. Misery is what they sell us in speedway, in one way or the other. Secrecy is their byword until there is either a leak ( I thought there had been re-re-located fixtures?)
  19. The Cooks of this world will not be 'doubling down" next season if the rumoured changes in league structures take place.
  20. Berwick - it's neither here nor there and has been both.
  21. It is invariably cold, windy , wet or often all three north of the border and it is sometimes not at all easy to recognise what the locals are saying. One is never quite sure if they are friendly or otherwise. Look what happened to Captain Cook
  22. When it suits him to. He would not have liked last nights track and would likely have thrown his dummy out of the pram, again. We know where he is going now and it's not upwards.
