  1. I am often a critic of the KLS promotion but can only now offer a Standing Ovation for this team change. Eric Riss should add a lot of spice to the rest of the season.
  2. Now that's what I call gonads and now I will be going on Weds.! Some ambition shown and to be applauded.
  3. This is one of the best ways I can see of increasing future involvement of young people in the sport ( I know you feel the same Skid Sprocket ) probably it's the only way. With BV having a two-page spread in the SS this week, ideas like this would be one of the best ways of investing money locally / regionally.
  4. I think there may well be others with a similar predicament.
  5. At least, to give him some credit, Buster Chapman after the last meeting off ( or delayed to the late-night slot ) at KL there will be 2 ambulances on duty to at least avoid such a delay again ( if Sod's Law does not strike ). I am sure that more fans would have joined the No Thanks crowd, if not. I am not sure speedway can afford NOT to sort out this problem of meetings cut short and VFM spiralling downwards.
  6. Right to the heart of speedway's problem. Poor racing of not much interest, other than to purists. Speedway, never mind Glasgow ( which did well to put on such a match ) still has a lot of work to do on the bit that matters. If it is all over, in almost each race, within 150 yards we are unlikely to pull in the new fans the sport needs.
  7. And being very "today" did it sell out a 2,500 capacity stadium? If not speedway has indeed had it!
  8. I go along with that especially the part about R / B / W /YB being reserved for any riders from the official 1 -7 declaration who might be available. This also fits in with the gender self-identification concept in society today. This could lead to a way back to having at least one female rider in the team. This could really bring in new fans. Later they could bring in other gender labels so that the rainbow effect can be fully appreciated. This would also give supporters who might feel that time is dragging between heats a lot more work in filling in programmes or scorecards. With a prize for the only correctly filled in one.
  9. God is very likely the only power ( working through His people on earth ) who might save Swindon from closing. Even for God, keeping the Robins on the same site looks impossible and would take a miracle.
  10. They may go the other way of course. 200 fans at £50 and you are on your way. throw in a generous headline sponsor and go fully out for the grey pound ( people under 30 only pay £20 ). I think that is much more likely a scenario for 2020 after the BSPA get it wrong in 2019.
  11. I suspect there will be in Poland and Sweden for some time to come because the promoters there are not so incompetent as the BSPA in the UK. But I take your point.
  12. We are all different and enjoy different aspects of the same things - in this case, a good speedway race. I have almost given up on sitting and watching speedway in the fresh air because there is no sense of urgency about getting on with the meeting ( at King's Lynn at least ). The Tuesday night racing on Freesports is usually much better than what I see here. I would happily pay for Pay Per View broadcasts of UK away meetings ( accepting that it is not going to be to a BT standard ) if only the BSPA had gotten on with organising what could possibly be a good income stream.
  13. That was how he came across to supporters and the promotion at King's Lynn last season. Petulant. I agree with his comments about many tracks but you either have to give up riding speedway in the UK or learn how not to throw your toys out of the pram on a seemingly regular basis. The tracks are a major problem to decent racing in this country as are over powerful bikes and then rider attitude re if not making the start -why bother racing , when he can just chase a bit for four laps.
  14. Its obvious and buoyed up by the very, very odd 69th Anniversary meeting - don't you think?
  15. I think you will find there is an -ist law about the people from Norfolk being "strong in the arm and thick in the head " and Norfolk&Good etc. Most of the inbreeding that brought this Victorian urban myth into the open has been diluted ( except in a very few isolated rural places ). Having been born only three miles out of Norwich I should know!
  16. Naturally, that would be a wise thing for them do except that they don't do "wise". Except in the sense of being wise after the event.
  17. Never! the BSPA have proved incapable of listening or learning. Until they stand amid the smouldering ruins of what was UK speedway, possibly even then they will just wonder " why, how did it go wrong when we tried so hard".
  18. The worrying thing is that so few fans were there to watch it. Well matched riders competing is what so many claim they want to see but when they have the chance, it's not so attractive. A worrying thing if the mooted one league of semi-pro riders of around the same ability level are involved in 2019.
  19. Sure to be a lot of Glasgow V Poole fixtures in the future. Not at all sure which other teams might be joining them in a league. All the money in the world is of no use if you don't have sufficient opponents to race against.
  20. Barrel assumed to be full of water. Shock Horror! It turns out to be oil. Nobody knew it was there.
  21. However in the alternative real world, that promoters often fail to see, is that a further dilution of the product and an increase in admission prices will certainly result in yet another drop in attendances. If the customers don't want to buy the product at the price it is offered at - they won't. And the shop closes down.
  22. If oil has been used to bind the shale on a regular basis, not during a match, it is still an environmental offence and I hope a large fine ( rather than points deducted ) is the deserved punishment. To put oil on the track after a match in front of supporters shows a total disregard for them and is a further display by a promoter that they feel they can "do as they want".
  23. That's my memory of years gone by too and not through rose tinted spectacles. It was much more unpredictable ( especially for the minor places ) and a lot of great races resulted. Now it is over in 150 metres ( halfway through the first lap ) and very strung out and boring for 75% of the time. So boring that I am ready to walk away and don't feel that I would miss it much.
  24. Seems quite likely to happen. How hard would Schlein try if riding for GB against Australia? With no Doyle and no Lambert ( for various reasons ) it looks more and more like a Championship lineup. Issue the teams , as known today please. We know that riders can be injured at any time so why do we not know of the "squad" members?
  25. Who is riding? What are the team lineups? The Glasgow website nor the Great Britain Speedway Team have them listed as of this morning.
