That'll be Karger's last meeting at Ippo surely. Branford would do a far better job. That's I'm assuming why the meeting against Birmingham has been cancelled as both Morley & Branford will be riding for the Rockets at Glasgow. Branford rode probably tonight the best I've seen him ride this season and heat 13 missing the gate made for a brilliant race. I must say well done Cradley you were by far the better team. One word about the referee Mr Posselwhite. His starting when Chessell and Morris clearly jumped the start wasn't pulled back, yet when Branford jumped he was pulled back. I just find the standard of these refs so inconsistent. I'm also in agreement bar ht 13 a rubbish meeting.

Well, this just proves the EL and PL should combine. All those Poole fans who didn't travel to support your team, bet you wished you'd gone now! Yes loads of guests but it's still your team, would love to have a team from Hackney to support with 7 guests!
-
Totally agree AJ. The authorities are as much to blame because there are just not enough riders to go around. It'll be interesting because there isn't much difference between the PL and EL so perhaps it'll be closer than people think.

Fact of the small crowd had some part been down to the weather forecast I'm sure. The other issue was start time for Kings fans. There were at least 3 cars (12 fans) of Kent supporters who would have travelled for the usual 3pm start but 6pm means a very late arrival back home and with work the following day it became an unviable option. I'd actually like to know why the meeting was changed to 6pm. Jane could you enlighten me? I'll be back at Buxton Sunday week all being well to see Rye House and that'll be far closer.

May well be making the trip across the sea to foreign lands to watch the IOW v Kent, must find my passport. Kent were successful in their last trip earlier in the season but the IOW have a few meetings at home now and I think this will be a closer affair than Kent's last visit. My prediction Kent by 4 points.

Rockets V Berwick Sat 4th June 7 Pm

The idea of one league was tried in the 90's and it didn't work then, I don't think it would work now either. Better solution in my view is two have two leagues. League 1 is of a standard of EL/PL. After all the difference is minimal with riders doubling up scoring more points in some cases in the EL than the PL. League 2 would be the current NL standard of racing. Would there be enough riders to do this I guess is the six million dollar question. But I'm sure some PL teams would drop a league and when you think back to the late sixties the two tear system of speedway worked for many years and produced many good British riders. Just a thought.....

Not sure if this has been raised before but...... Having a debate on the EU Referendum I raised the question of getting out of the EU. But will it mean as someone suggested our speedway clubs won't be able to fill team places? Will they close? Assume it'll back to the days of work permits for all foreign riders. British Speedway in my veiw since the introduction of EU riders in the NL in 88 has never produced the quality of world class riders we had prior to 88 when we were able to choose from many Brits for our World Team Cup Squads. We have current EU no hopers riding in the PL who would struggle in the NL, yet we still employ them. Do I need to change my view and vote to stay in now for the survival of British?

Now Len Silver Resigns As Co Promoter Rye House
Paul replied to Dave Stummings's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Interestingly Len continued to run Rye House Speedway under the banner Carter & Bailey when took over the Rye House mantle back in the early 2000’s and certainly up to a few years ago still was. Certainly it’s a lease from the Lea Valley Park Authority that was purchased by Len and when Warren Scott came on board he bought the remaining years lease from Len that includes I believe the world famous car park and the go-kart track to are included in the lease. -
What an awful thing for Len Silver not saying good bye to the fans at Rye and nothing on the Rye website. This taken from the Kent website. "It was a day of farewells also for the former rider and long-time Speedway team manager with Mr. Silver taking his leave from the track hes been involved in since the 1970s over the Thames, in Hertfordshire as he explained, I have today resigned my position as co-promoter at Rye House Speedway. In leaving, I wish the new owners and promoters led by Warren Scott, every success in the future. I would like, in particular, to thank my trusty lieutenant John Sampford (also Kent Kings team manager in their first two seasons) for his outstanding work with me at Rye House over the last 16 years, most of which goes un-noticed by the general public and to those others who have contributed to my happy times in East Hertford going back to the early 1970s - they are too numerous to mention. The tireless octogenarian has no plans to put his feet up though, Do not take this statement to indicate that I am in anyway going into so-called "retirement". I will still work seven days a week for Speedway just as I always have. Thats included just this week taking delivery and laying down a further twenty tonnes of new shale at the circuit at Central Park, which is planning to reopen with a meeting on Good Friday 2016 a visit from the popular American Dream Team in April also in the pipeline."

Rob, the point I was trying to make the point the Ace of Herts has in the recent past been run as a twelve rider event and they just don’t get my taste buds going I’m afraid. Long gone are the days of the last meeting being the 32 riders Champions Chase like we had at Hackney or the 16 rider Pride of the East at Kings Lynn, where I first saw a raw Zenon Plech ride. Those types of meetings just don’t happen in the UK anymore and probably never will. We’re under the GP thumb I’m afraid. It needs a breakaway body in speedway away from the speedway GP’s and I think with the European Championships gathering momentum this could well be that start of just that. Now, to up the price by a couple of quid is really, in my opinion, wrong. As Shad’s says the price hike wasn’t very clever and I did also make that point, but it was still a healthy crowd. If all the riders were on the same money [which I’m certain they weren’t] I wouldn’t have had so much of an issue over that. Personally I have enjoyed NL speedway more than ever this year. Yes there have been the internal arguments at the club and I don’t think they’ve over yet and of course probably the worst season Rockets have ever had regarding injuries. So by putting Raiders out with more experienced EL and PL riders I think was probably a bold [and cheap] move. Reading other people’s posts on facebook they seemed to quite enjoy the evening, but to us speedway connoisseurs, well it was indeed poor. The real fireworks took place at the end of the meeting and I have to say were probably every bit as good as Cardiff [can I say that] although they didn’t in my view marry up very well with the music, but that’s a nothing really. Speedway promoters you would have thought would have learnt their lessons by now, but unfortunately it’s very much an old boys club and a closed shop at the BSPA. Let’s hope that Warren Scott doesn’t get disillusioned with speedway like so many other former promoters.

So it’s a rarity that on this Saturday [10th October] we still have speedway to watch at Rye House, just over 7 weeks since Lakesides last home meeting on August 21st. Crazy to think a club can round of its speedway season in the middle of the school holidays, that just goes to show in my humble opinion what a mess speedway is in and especially the Elite League. But I digress. For some strange reason the Ace of Herts meeting has always produced good crowds in the past and I expect tonight’s affair will be no different especially as the weather is set fair although I recon on it being cold tonight. Mrs T unfortunately sold my thermals at a boot sale last Sunday as she thought [incorrectly of course] that speedway had finished so it’s a new pair from Primart later this morning. The pair’s idea [speedway not my thermals] is I guess better than seeing the 12 rider format over 16 heats. With fireworks at the end of the meeting this probably will bring a few extra faces. I was going to say families but hiking up the price will probably stop a few from going. I hope, as there are EL standard riders riding all the boys, especially the Raiders get paid the same as Harris, King and co, although somehow I doubt it! No predictions on a winner here, hopefully the winner will be the club and Warren Scott & Co can build on tonight’s speedway extravaganza [hopefully anyway] for the 2016 season. :t: :t:

Former Hackney and Sheffield rider Zenon Plech is in hospital in Poland after recently having a heart attack. Zenon perhaps wasn't at his best when he rode at Sheffield but was an outstanding rider in the 70's. Wish you well soon Zenon.

Rye House V Peterborough 7th September.
Paul replied to Paul's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Dear oh dear. Haven't a clue what I'm doing. Weather good for the rest of the day, but will be a bit nippy later. I'm about twenty miles down the River Lea from Rye House. -
Can't see a thread for this. Anyone going? Bit of a makeshift team for Rye with Bowen (using R/R) and Maassen (awaiting guest replacement) injured. With Greenwood given the all clear to ride it's a very top heavy Rockets team. Could be a close call this one.

Funny meeting today. Felt somehow the atmosphere that had been at previous NL matches wasn't there today. Is that because of that's gone on? Well I don't know. Certainly I believe Captain Chessell has walked away. As said he's ridden else where. Again no club statement. I really think Barbara Horley should not be allowed to officiate any speedway meetings. Her decision making when to put the red lights on is truly deplorable. Lee Payne falls of, whilst leading on bend 4, Lee's up and pushing his bike and by the time the riders reach the end of the pit straight on go the red lights. Pathetic I'm afraid. Nice to see Mr Bowtell getting stuck in today. He's really come on leaps and bounds. His entry into the 3rd bend when chasing riders so reminds me of Ted Hubbard. Difference is Bowtell holds the white line, Dear old Ted, well those of us old enough will know Ted took no prisoners there! Good solid performance from the Raiders, and a busy week with 3 meetings in five days. Few points on the road wouldn't go a miss!

How stupid of me. Kyle Hughes has just got better and better. He's so good I forgot about him. I've given my self a smack with wet lettuce leaves, I won't forget again. Sorry Kyle.

I always enjoy my Raiders matches blazeaway. The Raiders have the top man in the NL in Rob Branford. Pretty much unbeatable around Rye this season. The 'young guns' in Hume, Bowtell and number 8 George Hunter have really come on leaps and bounds in 2016 under the leadership of Andrew Silver. Unfortunately Andrew has departed the Raiders, big mistake in allowing him to leave in my humble opinion. With Chessell and Priest as good back up for Branford you can expect a good meeting. I've purposely left Sam Woods to last. I think the belief Andrew showed in Sam is slowly beginning to pay off. Hope Sam can continue (as of course all the other Raiders) without Andrew, although I suspect not all will return in 2016. Stoke are led by Lee Payne and Jon Armstrong. Both should score a few points around Rye, the other Potters are basically averaging under six points a meeting, so I'll bank on a Raiders win. I'm sure all the guys will give a 100% and the meetings involving the Raiders this year have all been good, so I hope Sunday will be no exception!

Rye House V Plymouth... 31st August, 2pm
Paul replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Certainly the right call to postpone early. Plymouth needed the meeting on more so than Rye as they chase that all important top 6 spot. With Peterborough due at Hoddesdon next Monday in a PL match to insure the match is complete before the deadline cut off date, I wonder when this match against Plymouth will take place? As Shadders has stated the fixture list is pretty full up to the end of September. It does make you think though when the Rockets had a very baron spell during June when the Rockets I think had one home meeting in about six weeks why PL fixtures weren't slotted in there. But I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing. -
Travelling up from the capital, any weather updates please Jayne? Hope it hasn't rain to much over night. Hoping today's meeting is on as I always enjoy my trips to Hi Edge. Hard one to call, as long as the weather behaves itself.

Berwick V Rye House Sat 25th Koc Q/f 2nd Leg
Paul replied to allthegearbutnaeidea's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Was it worth the journey from London! You bet! Man of the match without doubt Lule Bowen. Best I think I've ever seen him ride away from Rye House. Hats off to the rest of the team to. -
Well........I didn't see that coming. As Jimmy Greaves said 'it's a funny old game' Well done to Berwick. The writing was on the wall when Kennett was header in heat one. A lesson in gating was certainly what Berwick have the Rockets and some good passes to. NBJ certainly was involved in the race of the night going in a outside gap that didn't look like was there, although I was by the startline. Rye did bring it back in the latter part of the meeting to some respectability. Excuses for Rye? None really, all poor excuses so well done Berwick. But...Rye to win by more than six at Berwick? Highly unlikely but who'd have put money on Berwick winning today!
-
Can't see a thread for this. The way the Bandits are riding can only see a Rye House win. The other winner may be the weather. Let's hope the rain showers stay away from Rye this afternoon.

Meldrew moment and have removed as in wrong league lol.
