Paul replied to Shadders's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Forecast has improved over night. Light drizzel to around 12 then overcast and blowy. So with lots of dirt on the track to soak up the rain hopefully it'll be all systems go at 5pm -

Rye House Raiders V Kings Lynn Young Stars 16/5/2015 7pm
Paul replied to iand's topic in National League Speedway
Remarkably the tractor driver watering and grading the track was Len Silver! -
Can't see this anywhere on here. Travelling up soon. Not expecting to much from the Rockets but recon at a minimum of picking up a point if not more. Interesting to see how the track is after recent reports suggest not as good as it used to be.

Kent Kings V Cradley Heathens Nl 27/4
Paul replied to blueherb777's topic in National League Speedway
The crowd. Well according to the press realise it was another bumper crowd. Haven't been to CP this year, but the crowds did drop last year compared to Kings 1st season. The promotion of the team isn't just down to Len Silver. Remember Roger Cearns is the main man down at CP. I'm afraid there will always be people who aren't aware of what's going on in their towns they live in. Of course when the bikes were silencer free everyone new where the speedwat was, unless you lived in big cities. Many promoters fail to promote their team. But when your not a real speedwat promoter as many are in my view, what do you expect? -
Rye House V Sheffield 18th April

Wishing well to Simon Stead, plus the two walking wounded riders Steve Boxall and David Bellingo. These guys take tremendous risks for us the paying public. After seeing last season Andrea Compton having a similar accident as Steady tonight, I was amazed Compton didn't have more serious injuries and even more amazed Compton is back riding. These guys entertain me and tens of thousands of other speedway fans worldwide, you all deserve medals. Think your all a bit mad though to be honest but in the nicest possible way! -
Day of the fixture. So decided on a Rye House win tonight.

Rye House Vs Peterborough Panthers 6/4/15 Lc
Paul replied to Panthers89's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Remember the Peterborough match was only arranged on Friday I beleive? I would have thought if the promotion at Peterborough had any thought for their supporters they wouldn't have agreed to run on Monday night. But, Peterborough want to get as much money as they can this Easter coz like Rye House they're a business. I feel sorry for any Panthers fans who travel by public transport. Probably got a cheap rail ticket that's only available on a certain train on the way back. Peterborough won't in my opinion get as many fans as they would have had the meeting have run on Friday as originally arranged. But I guess there's a cut off date for these League Cup fixtures and the Showground is available Monday. £20 for two meetings is very good value for money and it will suite the vast majority of fans attending. Realistically I think for those Panthers fans who don't travel you'll miss a good meeting. Just think if this was an Elite League fixture you'd be paying around £20 for 15 races, every week. I think people like to moan at anything these days. But as the saying goes "you can't please all of the people all of the time!" -
Rye House Raiders V Mildenhall Saturday 7pm
Paul replied to Paul's topic in National League Speedway
Some of the people knocking the stadium and Raides amaze me. OK the race card wasn't ideal. I'm lead to believe that was a one off. The stadium itself, I didn't get my feet wet as such standing by the starting gate? Yes certain parts of the stadium are like a building site but the hone straight isn't. Can't speak for the back straight. The car park is an issue. The craters are avoidable but my biggest concern for people is the lack of lights when walking after the meeting to cars and outside of the complex. The car park issue has been raised loads of times. Perhaps the new gaffer needs to make a statement on that. Remember Rye House Soeedway isn't a charity. It's there to make £ notes. It's a learning curve at the moment. If you don't go because your not happy with this and that, well that's your choice. But the stadium last year was crying out for renovation. The guy who's bought it is putting his money where his mouth is! How I'd love someone like that to have put money into the old Hackney Stadium. Be thankful you've got speedway at Rye House, and long may it continue. -
Really looking forward to this match. Always liked Robert Branford and think he'll go well around Rye. It'll be the same for both teams with very little competitive practice and no meetings previously ridden this year. I do feel Mildenhall will probably be favourites. But it's a funny old sport is speedway, let's hope for a Raiders win and some entertaining racing.

Rye House V Somerset Lc 7pm 28th March.
Paul replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Jakobsen looks classy. He reminds me very much of one of the great tall Danes when he first came to England. I refere to Bo Petersen. A good performance tonight, was good to see Mellgren scoring a few. Lykke , if only he could gate, but he's great to watch when he misses the gate. Get Luke Bowen going and Rye will become a fortress at home once again. -
Rye House V Somerset Lc 7pm 28th March.
Paul replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
So it's the morning of the meeting and thus far only one post from the original made by Shads. Have I missed something here, is there another post I've not seen with my ailing eye sight, memory loss, oh the joys of geeting old. Somerset have been a bit of a bogey team for the Rockets over the last few years, or has it been Rye have had rubbish teams, the latter I think. But I would have thought some of the Rebel army would have posted, or perhaps they were more interested in Poole last last night at The Oak Tree Arena. After Rye great win at Peterborough last night, a good all round team performance I think Rye will win tonight. Still think it'll be a tight meeting but the Rye team seem to have gelled very quickly and that will no doubt be a major factor this year. We all know things weren't right in the team last season. I'm going to stick my neck out and say I don't think Somerset will go home with a point tonight, let's see if I have to eat humble pie around 9 o'clock. Better to eat humble pie than what's Shad's may have to do with Jenga -
No red lights came on. Lykke fell due to Nielsens bike failing. How on earth Barbara Horley can blame communication problems is totally beyond me. The referee declares the result and the announcer then announces the official result. Does the referee now have to ask the pits for the result? Of course not! Nope it wasn't anyone's fault last night. How silly of me to blame the referee. It was the computers fault..... Quote from Rye's team manager "The communication was down between the pits and the referee and then the referee's computer wasn't working correctly so that led to a few problems and it was a bit chaotic at the start." So it was the computer that declared the heat 2 result. Smacking myself now Basil Faulty style now.....

Great result for the mighty Daggere at Stevenage now of to Rye House to see proper League Cup speedway.

Birmingham Vs Cradley (ch) 18th March 2015
Paul replied to 21st century heathen's topic in National League Speedway
Hard to judge on one meeting but Cradley certainly look to have a powerful 7. What kinda makes me worry about this league is the likes of Buxton, Rye House, Eastbourne that are bringing in young untried riders. Harvie Banks has a great pedigree, but is really untried at NL level. What we will end up with is a NL that is split into the clubs that have good backing, ie £ notes and those that don't. Of course it's early days thus far, Birmingham will improve as the season gets going. But it must be worrying for the Brum promotion that they've been wolloped at home by such a big score line. Let's hope the Birmingham fans stick by their club after a bad day at the office. From a personal point of veiw my club Hackney folded mid season in 1991. As the Brummies fans know it's horrible when your club closes and I'd give anything to have the Brummies 1-7 riding at The Wick each week. Good luck Birmingham, things will only get better -
No ones seen me then on a bike, on the track on my own. Utter utter rubbish,

So it's under two weeks away before the tapes fly up for the start of the 2015 season at Rye as Ipswich come to town on the 21st March, weather permitting of course. With the stadium improvements on going we probably won't see the nice little stadium at its best but on track this meeting could be a cracker. This Rye team I think could be a surprise packet this year. For the meeting result, that's a hard one to call. I think Rye should just about do enough, although should the Witches win that again shouldn't be a total surprise. I hope with a new stadium owner he will reinstate draught beer and get decent fish in the fish bar. Will be interesting to see of any other personal changes. So sticking my neck out I'm going for a 6 point Rye win.

Kyle Hughes the latest Raider to be announced.

Rye House Raiders have continued their team-building by announcing the signings of Rob Branford and Sam Woods for the coming National League season. Anglo-Aussie Branford, the 2013 British Under-21 champion, will spearhead the side at No 1, while exciting prospect Woods is being tipped to make rapid strides in the sport. The duo join Luke Priest and skipper Luke Chessell who were unveiled last week and are both seen as having a key role to play for the Raiders this year. Adelaide-born Branford, 21, who will double up with Premier League champions Edinburgh, returns to British speedway after a year out in 2014, though he continued to race Down Under. When I first met Rob I was on a ferry heading towards the Isle of Wight, recalled Raiders chairman and team manager Andrew Silver. He was helping someone and I had him down as a young Aussie mechanic rather than a rider. Rob was everywhere that season if he wasnt riding, he was helping someone in the pits. In just one meeting at Kent he gained my respect beyond just being everyones friend. Northern-based, coming down south regularly to get ride, he had a quality I liked. Hes a burly rider who is not afraid to get stuck in and his progress was quick, probably due to his keenness to get involved. Obviously he went on to become British Under-21 champion, which is a far cry from my original impression of him as a mechanic! But that is what impresses me about Rob, every time I see or hear of him he blows my socks off, making a new and better impression than the last. I rate Tyson Nelson as much as anyone, but in races out in Australia, Rob made short work of him. Having taken 2014 out from riding in the UK, Rob is back hungry for more and will be sure to impress. Hold on to your socks! Silver is also looking forward to seeing Boston-born 21-year-old Rye House asset Woods in a Raiders racejacket and is tipping him for a year of progress. Hes already ridden in Europe as well as on loan with Kent, Mildenhall and Scunthorpe in the NL and that experience could be invaluable, according to Silver. Because of the lower points limit all teams in the National League will have to field more than a couple riders with three-point averages (the minimum starting average) irrespective of whether they have been assessed as a three pointer or an earned average from previous outings, explained the Raiders boss. Sam can do an excellent job for us, and has some experience which will hopefully prove valuable in the order of the team. Different riders need different things to elevate their game. I have watched Sam for over a year now and I reckon he will find just what he needs at Rye to further his career.

Celebration Of Speedway: Paradise Park
Paul replied to Shadders's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
All being well with have some high quality old speedway souvenirs lol on sale on Sunday at Paradice Wildlife Park. No doubt will spend more time chatting about years gone by than anything else. Its a really, really good day out. As well as the speedway side there is of course the miniture railway which is worth the admission money alone. Indeed looking forward to seeing everyone their. -
Do you honestly think it's going to make any difference to the numbers who attend to see a Raiders stand alone meeting wether Andrew announces his team today, tomorrow or at the end of Feburary? If it was the main team, yes it would be a worry, but it's not. Of course I'd like to know who is in the team, but I'm chilled about it now. All the other clubs must be quacking in there boots for the announcement when it comes!

So Raiders run according to Len in the latest press release. Good to see he's talking about stadium improvements to and fun packed Saturday nights! Perhaps this should have posted in NL section really. Len says "Our fans can also look forward to a fixture-packed season following the re-introduction of the Raiders, run this time around by my son, Andrew" He continued So, with a number of stadium improvements to add to the plusses, I am sure the supporters will make Rye House their regular Saturday night venue. I personally can't wait to get starred." The full press release Rockets Get Go-Ahead on Team Further to his application to re-declare the Rockets starting line-up to include Robin Aspegren following the rejection of Tyson Nelsons working visa, Rye House promoter Len Silver has received BSPA approval for his revised roster this afternoon. As previously indicated, this will bring the team in with a combined starting average of 42.49 just 0.01 below the permitted limit. Silver is delighted with the confirmed outcome. We have never been so close to the 42.50 limit, and with most of the riders quite capable of scoring above their average, the prospects for the new season look encouraging. Our fans can also look forward to a fixture-packed season following the re-introduction of the Raiders, run this time around by my son, Andrew. So, with a number of stadium improvements to add to the plusses, I am sure the supporters will make Rye House their regular Saturday night venue. I personally can't wait to get started." The opening night of the Rockets 2015 campaign is Saturday, March 21st, when they will play host to East Anglian rivals Ipswich in the League Cup. The start time at the Hoddesdon raceway is 7pm.
