Match report on the Tigers win here Tigers where without doubt the better team. Branford and Morley where excellent. What a shame we couldn't have had a Bronze Helmet match race between these two. Perhaps that's one of the things they could look at the winter conference....

For me seeing this fixture just in print brings back many happy memories of the Aces v Hawks at Hyde Road. This time around see’s the Hawks back in Manchester for the first time since 1983. When Hackney last rode in Manchester of course they where the Kestrels in 1987. This time though it’s NL action and hopefully on display will be the stars of tomorrow in both teams! Ironically the Hawks Mancunian Ben Hopwood [this is a away meeting and it's on his door step] is out with a busted collar bone so I guess that we be rider replacement for him. It’s a really tall ask this meeting for the Hawks, but I know they’ll give it there all and lets hope for a good close meeting.

Hackney make the trip to South Wales on Sunday and face Newport Hornets in a crucial NL match for the Hackney side. Number 1 Barrie Evans should be fit to lead the Hawks after missing the meeting at Mildenhall due to a foot injury he received in the last Hawks match at Lakeside. Racing gets underway at 2:30.

The Hawks will need to be on top top form this coming Sunday when they visit local rivals and neighbours Mildenhall in a National League match. Without the inspirational Barrie Evans who is out with ligament and tissue damage to his ankle picked up at Lakeside last Friday-details here-this certainly is going to be a tough meeting for the Hawks. Hackney will be using the rider replacement facility for Barrie and after a rather humiliating defeat earlier in the season in the KOC at West Row, I’m sure the Hawks will want to show the Tigers how good we really are!

Apologies there where no updates on twitter for the Hawks v Buxton meeting. Full match report at www.hackneyreunion.com. My phone is a N95 8gb and I cant get twitter on there, [anyone tell me how I can?] and was only able to update via facebook. Daughter usually uploads but she was unable to attend last night! Normal service for Hawks next away match at Mildenhall will be resumed. I have to say for a Lakeside meeting, there was some good racing. David Mason is riding probably the best his ridden in his career and was my man of the match. Ben Hopwood once again showed hes overcome his setup problems with another solid performance. Taylor and Branford where good and Allott look good when he gated for Buxton. One whinge, why dont they play the original Magnificent Seven Music at Arena? Once again I can say Hackney Hawks are still top of the league and hopefully can continue and make the play-offs. Will be interesting to see at what tracks the play-offs will hold the home legs?

The Buxton Hitmen hit town, this Friday at Lakeside’s Arena Essex Track. The table topping Hawks-how many times have we said that over the years- will be extremely confident of taking all 3 points from this home fixture after there great win at the High Edge Raceway last Sunday.

Very sad news indeed. Tony was a great help with his insight in to pre war Hackney [as he attended pre-war meetings at The Wick as a boy] for the 2005 Hackney reunion programme. He also was the chairman of both testimonials the Hackney great Barry Thomas had. A fantastic man to speak to and here his stories of what he called the 'good old days of speedway' RIP Tony

The Hackney Hawks will be out for revenge for their recent narrow defeat across the water when they host the Isle of Wight at their “other” nest of Lakeside on Friday (July 8th @ 8pm). They will be facing an Islanders team that offers a strong Rye House connection, courtesy of 2010 Rocket Paul Starke, two year Cobra Rob Smith and former Raider Gary Cottham. The visitors also include 7th year Islander and former Exeter Falcon Nick Simmonds and newly signed Danny Warwick, otherwise known as “The Dreaded One”. Hopefully after last nights win, the Hawks will be up for taking all three points against the Islanders as well.

£12 at Lakeside for the meeting against Dudley and it was a really good crowd, so I'm not sure if that theory is correct. Will be interesting to see what the crowd is like this Friday [at Lakeside 8pm start] against Isle of Wight. Track, well there's a exclusion zone all the way around the track and its better the rider gets up and walks away isn't it? Should those couple of incidents happed at other tracks with solid fences, would the out come have been the same, I fear not. A very interesting artical[3rd press release down] about the Rye House track and how Len is trying to over come the problems. See the link below Link Here I enjoyed last nights match and the score didn't do justice to the racing, well done Hawks!

The Hawks should be at full strength for this match but the Hornets won't be a easy pushover. The Hornets – Championship Play-Off Finalists last year – include the duo that finished as runners-up in the recent League Best Pairs Championship. Former Somerset , Birmingham and Edinburgh man Jay Herne was nearly a 2010 Rocket until being over-ruled as a late season replacement for Robbie Kessler. The 2009 Bronze Helmet meeting winner, he also finished third in that season’s NLRC. Best Pairs colleague Todd Kurtz, meanwhile, is also a five point Wasp in the Premier League. There are no less than four Newport-born riders in the Hornets’ line-up – Tom Young, Jamie White-Williams, David Gough and Richard Andrews. The latter is enjoying a major jump on last season’s 3 point average with Weymouth , already posting high scores of paid 11 against both Buxton and the Isle of Wight , and will feature in the forthcoming British U-19 Championship at Rye House on July 23rd. The Welsh side is rounded off by Matt Bates, who was previously a National Trophy winner with Plymouth.

I started the thread on Hackney v Mildenhall. Yet again a speedway thread taken over by the doom merchants and moaners! Perhaps we should have a separate stand alone section for these people? Back to the thread. Weather forecast is for light showers so let’s hope we can stay clear of them today at Rye House. Sure the Hawks will be up for it tonight but after there very disappointing performance at West Row last Sunday have made things very difficult for themselves. Shane Hazeldene will be in the main body of the team, well deserved and sure he will just carry on where he left of. Little Ben Morley swaps places so we still have an on form reserve. A Hackney win of course would be nice, a big Hackney win would be even nicer! But lets hope for a good second leg and let National League Speedway be the winner!

Well thats great news, well done! Is this the most successful book you've done?

The Hawks this Saturday certainly have the provable mountain to climb if they are to progress into the next round of the KOC after there heavy defeat at Mildenhall last Sunday. But who expected the Tigers to romp to such a large victory on the day, could the Hawks repeat this back at Rye House this Saturday at 7pm?
-
First visit of the year tomorrow to West Row for me. Hope the track is better than reports suggested on last Sunday. Is there a stock car meeting tonight? Hackney will arrive very confident after coming so close to getting a win at Dudley last Tuesday. Over two legs should be fairly close but tomorrow I’ll go for a Hackney win, they can do it!

Without doubt the best supported club in the NL in a great stadium. The only down side was the gestures Shane Hazeldene got after from Dudley fans after his fall on the third bend in heat 12. Sure maybe he should have got up, he thought he was ‘helped’ to fall, but referee Graham Reeve probably made the right call. Have to also add the some of the starts left a lot to be desired. But the positives, far out weighted the above. The crowd out in high numbers to support the Heathen’s in there green tops and green caps , I purposely left my green cap in the car. Didn't see many Wolves jackets or hats. They have a great centre green presenter in Ian ‘Porky’ Jones’, good racing, great track shop selling nice bread pudding, a great atmosphere in the stadium, but Heathens, ‘where were the pork sandwiches vans?’ Those vans are so famous though out the speedway world, almost as famous as Gundersen, Hancock, Penhall etc…… Shame the Hawks couldn’t pick up at least a point, we deserved one I think. To have won would have been a fantastic achievement. I predicted a Hackney win at Lakeside, 3 points to boot, but unfortunately we where beaten on the night fair and square. It did look possible at heat 10 we could win the meeting, but alas it was not to be. We will gain from this no question. Good to see young British riders in both teams and think many will go far. Special mention though has to go to the Hawks Shane Hazeldene who has looked tremendous this season. Yes a great advert for British and NL speedway yesterday evening. But I guess the big question is, will the Heathens stay in the NL in future season or will they go PL or even further but is that a bridge to far?

Totally 100% agree with your statement Shadders. But……. I’ve been trying to keep the ‘Hackney Speedway’ name alive since the closure of Hackney in 1991. As many people know there is a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php which has been running now for 4 years, http://hackneyreunion.com/ which has been running since 2004 a twitter account http://twitter.com/@hackneyspeedway , a myspace page and trying to keep the name of Hackney Speedway alive. With a Hackney team back on track it's a great help in my quest in getting a plaque erected near to the old Waterden Road track as possible remembering that speedway was held here and that riders lost there lives on that track. You can imagine my joy when I heard the Hawks where to be seen on the track again this year. Yes there’s a lot of political stuff going on, but to see the race jacket back on the track for me is a delight. Yes it’s not in the east end, yes it’s a rebranded Cobras team from last year but it’s a Hackney Hawks team. I think we all know realistically the chances of speedway returning to London’s east end are slim, but no ones actually said NO have they? Even if that answer did come, I’d still keep the name Hackney Speedway rolling everywhere I could. Wimbledon have a excellent websites http://www.wimbledon-speedway.com [wish mine was a good as that] so they can be remembered as do Romford http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.knightley/ another excellent site. So for now I’ll go and see the Hackney Hawks team race, because they’re branded Hackney and have a Hackney race jacket. Will they be in existence after this year? We’ll just have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, watch out Heathens you’ll be going home pointless next Friday and our rivalry will back on track the following Tuesday at Wolverhampton! Just remember Heathens fans back in 1987 the Hackney Kestrels Andy Galvin & Alan Mogridge got a 5-1 relegating a certain Eric Gundersen to third place, no one saw that one coming, happy days.

Ha Ha! Excuse me, this is the mighty Hackney Hawks ! The Hawks will be flying high, hammering them there Heathens! On a serious note I hope you are able to get to Lakeside, just allow loads of time to get across the Dartford Crossing if you use the lower part of the M25 or if you take the north side that has loads of road works by junction 28 Southend/Romford and at junction 21 M1. Lets hope for a great advert for National League speedway and a Hackney win…..

Let’s make it a date Friday at eight. For the first time since 1991 that’s exactly what we can say when the Hackney Hawks race against the mob from the Black Country, the Dudley Heathens. They visit Hackneys Lakeside home and let’s hope for a cracking match. The form of the Hawks has been excellent, apart from the glitch at Scunthorpe this season. Can only see a Hackney win here so lets hammer’em back to the Black Country with no points!
-
Looking forward to this A10 derby match. Think after Hackney’s performance against Belle Vue, they will have ironed out some of there set up problems and can only see a Hackney win here. Looking forward to see how Jake Knight performs around the tight Hoddesdon track. Don’t forget updates will be available via twitter @hackneyspeedway.

All Hackney matches both home and away will have updates at twitter@hackneyspeedway. Also a great interview with Shane Hazeldene after last nights match plus a report against the Belle Vue Colts can be found via the link below. Link Here
