UK speedway slowly dying
JamesHarris replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What we could do is sell tickets for the price of a McDonalds meal and give out a few freebies and tell the media it was a sell out. We should also promote British speedway as being the same standard as the Polish Extraliga and if anyone dares say any different we call them uneducated ignorant oinks. Seemed to work well for the Women's Euro's -
What has been the actual point of these two meetings? I've just whizzed through them and must say if I was watching speedway for the first time it would certainly be the last. The racing has been mediocre and drawn out although Poland had a scare. The crowd levels have been shocking though I know a few more locals will turn out for the final. I was never a fan of the World Cup but the SON is even worse. Can someone please tell me how having the likes of Norway, Italy and Ukraine race against Poland, Australia and GB is going to be entertaining? No disrespect to the smaller nations but it's like watching 2 Extraliga heat leaders take on 2 National league reserves - there is just no point to it.

Birmingham v Glasgow 6.7.22
JamesHarris replied to Petecc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Somebody has found the term sweaty sock offensive?? Wow!! If they are that offended by such a term is the Speedway Forum the correct place for them? There's a heatwave on this week so these snowflakes better hide away somewhere safe for a few days. Personally I would have thought the term Haggis munching, whiskey swilling kilt wearing subordinate would be more offensive to the Scots! Anyway here's a toast to the memory of Edward Longshanks and the Duke of Cumberland. Happy Sunday my Tartan Colonials. -
Reading those figures is eye watering. With all the best intentions of keeping Birmingham speedway going why on earth would one man be throwing that amount of money away? It's absolutely mind boggling!! Could you imagine making a pitch on Dragons Den and telling them you were losing that much money!!
-
Thanks. That would make more sense as the clip was shown during a part of the programme where they were talking about Idi Amin kicking the Asians out of Uganda.

Would the Greyhound stadium be an option?

Been watching Back in Time for Birmingham tonight about the 1970's and there was a few seconds of what looked like speedway/grasstrack racing in India. Does anybody know any info on this?
-
I think the grandstand would have to be demolished completely now if Speedway was ever to return. I thought it was dated before the speedway closed but it would need massive investment to refurb the existing structure and in all honesty would it be worth it? The pits, the back straight terraces and some of the out building look ok still and could easily be salvaged.

Speedway Star front cover.
JamesHarris replied to JamesHarris's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think over the winter months it would be ok but during the season itself have a front cover that is relevant to the news and events of that week. It's as if the magazine is more about the rider interview now than the actual speedway itself. -
If the producers of Speedway Star magazine read this please can you look at reverting the cover of the magazine to what it used to be. What I mean by that is reflecting the events of the day. Have the latest grand prix winner etc on the cover and make it relevant to the news of the week. The front page format you have been using over the last few years is boring and uninspiring. I used to buy the magazine every week religiously but now only buy it periodically. Please change the front cover back. It used to be like a souvenir back in the day following a World Final or Grand Prix. P.S This weeks cover should have been Nigel Pearson rather than just a small pic of him. Just Saying.

Weber is throwing this away big time
-
To put it simple - He stayed on his bike
-
Is the BSPL or whatever they call themselves corrupt? Probably. But to make an allegation you need good solid evidence to back it up. It needs someone to make this organisation transparent so if anyone out there wants to take on the challenge....

I think Coventry had a press and practice in the early 90's with only half a team signed. I would doubt it unless it's a short term deal. He'll be riding for Brovst in Denmark on Wednesdays.

Do any other riders have Russian ancestry? Russian spouses? Russian equipment? Drink Russian standard Vodka? Have they ever flown on a Russian airline or visited a Russian city? Have they ever had conversation with a Russian citizen? If any of the above apply then they are guilty of association and must be banned from all competitions with immediate effect!!!
-
I was looking at this scenario the other day. I would say Weber is odds on based on his performance in the opening rounds but both Haarahultinen and Iwema could do it. I bet Harald Simon is kicking himself now that he couldn't ride in Russia.
-
What I am finding most disturbing about this sorry episode is the sudden lets cancel anybody or anything that is Russian. It is becoming borderline racism and ironically the same people who are getting very vocal about it all are the same people who got very vocal about the Black Lives Matter movement. Double standards one has to ask. Not every Russian agrees with or even likes Putin. We must remember that. But I suppose in this day and age of social media everybody loves a bandwagon to jump on. I imagine Alexander the Meerkat will be next on the cancel list but I think that irritating rodent has already got his claws in lots of Putin pies!

If they were banned then it's a hard one. Would the western riders compete? probably yes. If one of them scored enough over the 2 days to become champion they will always be a world champion but would they be a world champion on merit? NO
-
Has there been any indication yet as to whether the Russian riders will be allowed to compete? It's going to be extremely difficult for them to travel to Holland in current circumstances. May get the first western champion in 20 years!!

International Speedway 2022
JamesHarris replied to GrasstrackRacingDrenthe's topic in International World of Speedway
You're never going to get a job at the United Nations with that attitude -
Probably a silly question but why are the Russians so far ahead? Is it money, engine tuning or just talent? I have seen a few western riders have brought bikes from top Russian riders but they are still far behind.
-
Johann Weber was brilliant against the Russians. I think the big occasion of making it to the final got to him but he tried his best. Well done.
-
Hardly anybody there. Are there covid limits on the capacity or are they busy invading Ukraine instead?
-
Does anyone know what the track length is for the ice track at Tolyatti please? thanks
