  1. I am honestly not Scunny bashing, I usually attend as an away supporter when Redcar are in town and your club definitely need a ring master. Roy Clarke does a fantastic job for the Bears just as he did for the Diamonds. He is the type of character Scunthorpe need with his mixture of Speedway knowledge and humour. Your announcer is probably a very nice guy and his voice is a dead ringer for Jonny Vegas but sadly without the wise cracks. Honestly there is an atmosphere at Redcar that draws people in everyone is so friendly fom the guy in the car park to the promoters and owners and if all of that could be replicated at Scunthorpe your fans would love it !! After all you have a great track and great facilities.
  2. I am pretty sure trophies are the Icing on the cake but to have the icing first you need the cake
  3. Your reply is bang on, the riders need to make a living and even an extra £10 a point can make a massive difference over a season they also have to take travel time to their home track into consideration for example if a rider lived in Doncaster, rode for Sheffield in the PL and Scunthorpe in the Championship he gets to spend a lot more time with his family than if he rode for say Ipswich and Glasgow it also means fewer nights in hotels and less diesel in his van. Above all riders need to be happy on a home track that they ride well with a good promotion who will back them if their form drops. Its a dangerous sport with a short career and when the time comes to hang up the kevlars what matters most is how much money is in the bank not how many trophies are on the mantlepiece
  4. Especially as he will be riding with Riss who is one of the best team riders around.....he will get plenty protection
  5. The problem for Scunthorpe is the same as the problem for Redcar. "The track is too fair" and that makes it too easy for away teams to drive away with points in the bag with little chance of a reciprocal favour in corresponding away fixture. I know we get to see lots of exciting racing over 4 laps instead of a boring dash to the first corner from the tapes but then doesn’t amount to much when they dish out the trophies. I also think it hinders the ability to secure the best riders because they want a home track where they can take 12 points from a meeting and ot when where visiting heat leaders can make a serious dent in their income
  6. It would have taken me all weekend to write that
  7. I am a Bears fan and gutted to see the Diamonds go but if you stopped for a minute or two and took off the rose tinted glasses you will realise it is for the best. As much as you all loved Brough Park you were only tenants paying an extortionate rent for a below par venue I remain confident that Newcastle speedway will rise again but to succeed they will need a set up like we have at Redcar with a dedicated stadium/track with the ability to generate multiple revenue streams. Workington are in the process of doing just that so why not Newcastle? All you need is a benefactor with deep pockets and a Geordie accent The Bears managed to achieve a revival on Teesside so why can't you do it in Tyneside or even Wearside, imagine the fanbase for the Tyne and Wear Diamond Stars
  8. Redcar really did lay out the red carpet for the Diamonds tonight with dozens of Geordies making the 1hr trip south to say an emotional goodbye in a hastily arranged meeting involving a Newcastle team made up of former Diamond's riders vs The Bears. After heat 15 the Diamonds supporters were invited to the start/finish line for a photo with the riders and as the tannoy system belted out Shirley Bassey's" Diamonds are forever" they were give a rapturous applause from the Redcar fans.
  9. I must say those clever chaps over at Berwick really are something quite special to be able to predict the rain at such a precise time and so far in advance. I am quite sure they are wasted running a speedway team when a glittering career in Meteorology is surely beckoning. I shall be eternally grateful to them for maliciously using the genuine excuse Redcar used when postponing 2 meetings without any team changes lined up and therefore not gaining an advantage, because they have saved me my valuable time and my expensive fuel. I am also pretty positive that due to their sporting integrity they will not be using their recently acquired team members when the re arranged fixture eventually takes place as they will be well aware of the fact that Cheats don't prosper
  10. WOW ........let's create a cover story to get the 2nd leg of the KOC vs Redcar postponed while we push these team changes over the line, Redcar won't know what's hit them and we will have a much better chance of overhauling that 12 point deficit who knows if we keep kicking the can down the alley we might even get Etheridge back. We all know it's cheating but hey who cares

  12. From behind the line it appeared Riss got there first admittedly it was a very close call. I suppose everyone saw it differently depending on their view. The ref is looking at the line and has a millisecond to make his mind up. Morris's actions were disgraceful especially in front of kids and in any other sport he would have been sent off and received a lengthy ban.
  13. There is a desire in Newcastle for the Diamonds to succeed, last seasons finale when all looked lost taught us that. Every club has to operate within its budget and I know they have rent to pay on Brough Park but since Rob Grant took the reins the on site catering has been replaced with his food van and his food is delicious. I have been 3 times since Rob came in and its been hard to get anywhere near that van because the queue is long so the guy really does know what he's doing in his comfort zone but I can't help wondering if the profits are ploughed back Into the club or if he sees it as just another business opportunity. Getting back to the level playing field surely the teams with their own catering facilities are generating a lot more revenue which means they can pay for better riders that in turn will bring more bodies through the turnstiles. ( I definitely have any desire to criticise Rob Grant )
  14. I was there and the home fans were very hostile, the track was unridable it wasn't revenge the safety of the riders is paramount and even the home team had reservations. The track had already ended the career of one Redcar rider, how many would be enough for you?
  15. 1) The Birmingham promoter's could have held up their hands and forfeited the tie. 2) Speedway is fast becoming a pi## pot sport because Clubs like yours are paying extortionate rents at dog tracks and are denied a secondary income from concessions. The clubs in trouble all seem to be tenants while the prosperous clubs have their own facilities.
  16. Well it bothered your lot last year when you robbed Redcar in the KOC
  17. A Speedway heat is meant to be a race over 4 laps not a race to the first corner
  18. I can't believe nobody has bothered to respond and I feel as a Bears supporter it shouldn't me but I will have my tuppence worth and proclaim that Redcar Bears are the best run c.ub in British speedway. The stadium is superb and the track is fantastic its just a shame that Godfrey and his cronies will stop at nothing to discriminate against us at any opportunity
