Oxford Vs Workington June 26 2024
Wobblywheel replied to Anzum's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I am a long - time Oxford supporter but I think the Sandy Lane raceway should be re - named "The Dustbowl". On the apex of bends one and two, I had a job to see through the dust cloud who won heat 1. Up to heat 6 and no real racing with some riders struggling to stay on. Such a shame because the action is normally superb. -
Oxford vs Poole 19th June Championship

To all travelling Poole fans, Another dry, warm day. Should be good racing but could be like a sandstorm. Make sure you bring goggles and appropriate plugs to keep the dust out of all orifices!! M -
Let's not forget we are very lucky to have speedway at Oxford and most weeks as well. When I think back to how the track was in the 80's and particularly the 90's - it was frankly diabolical. In most meetings you were lucky to get an overtake after heat 5! Since the re-opening and especially this year, we have had some fantastic racing throughout the meetings. The track prep has been spot-on. They seem to have more shale on the outside and rip it up to provide more than one racing line Also, I was never a fan of 2nd division speedway but at Oxford I am a convert. As to last night, I was in Cowley all afternoon and the rain forecast for 3pm did not happen. I have no idea if the track was watered but it was certainly dry and dusty at the start. The rain only started at 19.30 and was a very thick drizzle which seems to soak everything as much as torrential rain and it did not stop. I've no idea what it looked like on TV but In my opinion (being there) the track was dangerous at the end and the referee had no option but to cancel the meeting. Maybe wet-weather tyres would have helped! In addition, I was in the packed bar at the end and nobody there critisised what happened. So, onwards and up upwards and I look forward to the meeting next Wednesday

Why on earth is the Oxford track so incredibly dry and dusty again? -

Could someone point me in the right direction for the various admission prices for the final on 13/07 please? I know they are supposed to go on sale tomorrow but I can't find any info to date. -

I have not been to the NSS yet but plan to attend the SON Final on 13/7. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me any recommendations for car parking and a hotel stop-over. It’s no surprise that the Holiday Inn Express is fully booked. -
So, once again the Oxford promotion is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Personally, I can't see this getting past 4 heats.

Here we go. Good weather, a bumper crowd and not a Poole supporter in sight. Praise the Lord! -

Cheetahs weakened by the loss of Scott Nichols but Lewis Kerr is a decent replacement and will give it his best. Poole should walk this but last year were never in the running. -

Will it be on or will it be off? I live 4 miles from the track and suspect it will be cancelled. It was dry up until 20 minutes ago and is now raining. Shame because I am really enjoying the racing at Cowley since the speedway opened for business again. It is clear that Jamie Courtenay puts his heart and soul into track preparation and you can see the riders trust the track. It is a fantastic atmosphere, ‘racing out of the top drawer’ and the best speedway in the Championship, ‘no question about that!’ Unfortunately, now raining very heavily. -

The last 2 weeks speedway was on a Tuesday. There were greyhounds in the afternoon and the track staff could not get on the track to water it. No idea what has gone wrong tonight. 30 minute delay for track grading after heat 1. Very, very frustrating. -

4 riders for Plymouth after heat 1. 3 riders in Ht 3. I would not be happy if I had travelled up from Devon for this. -
Oxford vs Glasgow 22nd June
Wobblywheel replied to Anzum's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Is nobody going to say what a fantastic job the promotion at Oxford are doing? The racing tonight was brilliant, the track was well prepared despite temperatures of about 28 degrees, with no dust until heat 14. A good crowd and a great atmosphere, it was simply exciting - like speedway should be but at most tracks it is not. To the person whinging about the £1.00 booking fee. I would like to inform you that 2 weeks ago the meeting was cancelled after heat 4 due to rain and guess what, the promotion gave everyone free admission tonight. I do not think many tracks would do that. Oh, and parking at Unipart is free with a free shuttle bus. But hey -ho you can’t please every body all of the time. Personally, I’ just delighted to see Oxford running again after 15 years. -

I have just signed up to Premier Sports on the Sky platform and for the 3FREEMONTHS discount code it stated “discount not valid”. I don’t know what I could have done differently.
